It's all so convenient that the cameras are always offline for controversial happenings, it's just so coincidental...

1forAll74 · 10/08/2021 01:45

Does the Prince of sleaze do any work now, or is he on benefits , of a different kind now.. Perhaps he helps Charles out in his gardens, and mows the lawns. and prunes the roses etc.

mathanxiety · 10/08/2021 01:53

I hope VR loses. Badly. Because I'm tired of Guilty until proven Innocent attitudes.

@lljkk, this isn't a criminal case. It's a civil suit.

No doubt the rabid British press will try to paint her as a money grubbing nobody. I hope she'll take PA to the cleaners.

FrenchCovidInfo · 10/08/2021 01:56

Ghislaine's lawyers will be working 25 hours a day working out the best way to lever this. She will do whatever it takes to be sentenced with time served. She has nothing to aim for but freedom now, and I agree 100% - she is key to this case.

Good luck to VR.

I don't get this. You hope VR loses her case because you're tired of what you perceive as skewed reporting/public perception?

How are the two things connected?

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/08/2021 02:06

This case will be settled and this prince, like all the others, will be fine.Hmm

Children were trafficked and sexually abused @Pixxie7. That is what PA was involved to some extent.Hmm

SionnachRua · 10/08/2021 02:41

I hope Charles hangs him out to dry when the Queen is gone. And in the meantime, VR's lawyers have fun cranking up the pressure on him. They might not have jurisdiction over him but by God, he wouldn't like the headlines that could come out of this.

I am always a bit sceptical about these things, whilst I don’t doubt that he was involved to some extent. We all know that some women would enjoy the highlife and all the benefits that come with it.whether or not it was actual rape remains to be proved.

She was 17. A child. These me took advantage of vulnerable young girls.

Plumtree391 · 10/08/2021 03:52

I'd like to know for what she is going to sue him.

I agree and Prince Andrew was really small fry in all this. Epstein had loads of 'friends' far more powerful and involved but the majority of them didn't know or believe that he was trafficking girls. He was a charismatic and plausible man.
PrestonHood121 · 10/08/2021 03:57

Nothing will come of it but good on her for at least attempting

AlternativePerspective · 10/08/2021 04:01

Publicity stunt, IMO.

She files a suit against him conveniently a couple of days before she’s run out of time, he settles out of court, she takes the money and walks away saying that Andrew essentially admitted guilt through a court settlement.

There’s no way this is going to end up in court and there’s no way she’s going to want it to. Because the evidence is circumstantial, it’s going to be impossible to prove and she’s only going to gain humilliation from it when she loses.

There is no doubt that Andrew is a sleaze, but I have no doubt that this is all about money for her.

OliverBabish · 10/08/2021 04:05

“…majority of them didn't know or believe that he was trafficking girls”

Catch yourself on. It’s still not known exactly how Epstein amassed his fortune, and many of the men who were hanging with Epstein had plenty more money and business expertise than he did. No, he brought something else to the table - and it’s clear that was underage, trafficked girls.

Honestly, none of these scumbags will ever be held to account - your sentence alone proves it. Poor little naive rich men 🥺

SpindleWhorl · 10/08/2021 05:29

It's in the main news this morning, and being reported as sexual assault.
mathanxiety · 10/08/2021 05:35

The money grubber theory rears its very ugly head already.

mathanxiety · 10/08/2021 05:38

LOL.

Captains of industry, founders of hedge funds, etc - do you honestly believe they all came down in the last shower?

mathanxiety · 10/08/2021 05:43

Maybe you think 'actual rape' involves strangers leaping out from behind bushes at girls or women, bruises, battering?

If she was underage then it was 'actual rape'.

This is because the law provides a tiny little bit of protection for underage girls who don't have possession of their passports, away from their homes, in the company of rich, unscrupulous men who have powerful friends. Not a whole lot of protection, and no useful protection at the time they were being used to buy favours; just enough power afterwards to give them a little chance of justice.

BrozTito · 10/08/2021 06:02

Wont get anywhere

THisbackwithavengeance · 10/08/2021 06:17

I really don't know much about the case.

But I am sceptical of this woman with a bunch of lawyers trying to get ££££. The main perpetrator of any crime is dead so surely this comes down to negative public opinion, a media witchhunt and spurious allegations?

I also don't understand how the trafficking claim came about? Was VR not in a consenting sexual relationship with JE? I thought she was his girlfriend? She was 17 which is above the age of consent which makes the whole thing unpalatable and sleazy but not illegal, surely? I also see the word 'rape' bandied around here which I also don't understand as having sex with a 17 year old doesn't automatically make someone a rapist which seems to have been somehow become a fact on MN.

If anyone can recommend or link any unbiased fact based news sources I would be grateful as opposed to "PA is a sweaty rapist nonce" I would be grateful as I would like to educate myself on this.

My personal opinion on this matter is the PA should be called to account in the US courts the same day that AS is extradited for causing death by dangerous driving. Not going to happen.

SpidersAreShitheads · 10/08/2021 06:19

I'm not a Prince Andrew supporter and I think that his interview was absolutely awful.

But I am confused by the references to a 17 year old being a child. At 17 she's a young adult. Sex with a much older, powerful man is distinctly sleazy - no question - but she's not a child. You can't drink until you're 21 in the USA, but that doesn't mean you're a child. Plus one of the two rape incidences took place in London, where she was over the age of consent.

I think the allegations of rape and coercion are bad enough without exaggerating for effect.

KidneyBeans · 10/08/2021 06:27

@lljkk

I hope VR loses. Badly. Because I'm tired of Guilty until proven Innocent attitudes.

i don't care what happens to PA otherwise, btw.

I Wonder when this thread will go poof.

So you'd rather a potential victim of child trafficking did not get justice that she likely deserves, and that alleged paedophiles aren't held accountable ?

What exactly do you think hoping a victim 'fails badly' will achieve?

Surely it would be better to hope for justice for victims of trafficking, than to vindictively hope for the failure of a brave women who was clearly abused (whether PA was involved or not)

VikingVolva · 10/08/2021 06:35

NY is a strict liability state, so all she will have to prove is that sexual contact took place when she was under age. And as age of consent in force then was 18, then - no matter how enthusiastically she may have been consenting - it's a statutory rape charge

(There isn't a directly equivalent charge in the UK jurisdictions, though there is strict liability for u13s; we also have age propinquity for 13+ up to men age 18)

In NY there are a range of sexual abuse charges available in these circumstances charges possible, and it's quite possible that it'll end up as one of the lower penalty ones, as there is no evidence whatsoever he knew she was trafficked.

Her team have had to file now, because the clock would run out otherwise. I still think that PA is a bit part player in a US scandal, which needs to be kept in the news so that the rest of the whole sorry mess does not fade away
