too good to go food waste app - anyone else use it?

Huge fan of this app - friend told me about it over lockdown and after I'd had my first "magic bag" I was hooked! The basic idea is that you pay for a lucky bag of food from a local retailer which would otherwise have gone in the bin. Picked up a bag from a M&S petrol station shop last night, cost me £4, got two large packs of salmon, two panini wraps, two packs of sandwiches, a side salad, a bag of mixed veg, and a pack of melon. Greggs also do bags which the kids enjoy - most of the bags we've had from there have a couple of the bakes, sausage rolls, cakes, pastries.

Yes it's all short-dated, yellow sticker stuff but lots can be frozen. Or eaten the next day. Definitely worth looking at if you're flexible about what you eat. Lots of restaurants do it too, although pick up times can be much later in the evening.

Any other fans???

@Vanilla1Cookies

3 Morrison ones for tomorrow then…

Wonder who bags the best one Grin

Morrison's bag here too, my first one.
RandomCatGenerator · 31/07/2021 20:13

Do you find the vegetables are decent quality from the grocery bags?

iaminevitable · 31/07/2021 20:24

I have just discovered this app and got a bag from my local Waitrose tonight

4 pack beef burgers
4 beef kebabs
4 chimichurri steaks
6 pork sausages
4 burger buns
Chicken sandwich
Lemon yogurt

£5!! I think it may be beginners luck Grin

H8theW8 · 31/07/2021 20:31

Greggs magic bags are my fave, never had a bad one!

Morrison's has been the worst, never again! Got a HUGE box and was so excited until I got it home and opened it - full of veg that was already on the turn (4 bags of Brussels sprouts and 5 bags of spring onions that were well past their best). Rock hard flatbreads that just couldn't be revived, a 2 pack of fresh cheesecake slices only it had been opened, one slice was missing and the other had a finger print on it 🤨

Threw every single thing in the bin!

Boobahs · 31/07/2021 20:31

@PizzaPiePizzaPie

Oops it didn’t quote *@Boobahs* Morrison’s bag
Ah, I wasn't aware that it should be £10 worth. I'll have a look and might complain (although it's my first one 🙈) be
Boobahs · 31/07/2021 20:33

Sorry, pressed send too soon Blush

@PizzaPiePizzaPie There definitely wasn't £10 worth in there Sad

Wow! That's a good one!
PizzaPiePizzaPie · 31/07/2021 20:36

@Boobahs they’re very good if you complain, they will ask for a photo of what you have received and usually refund you. Just go into the help section.
I think it’s a learning curve for the supermarket. At my Morrison’s if they don’t have enough stuff they just take stuff off the shelves to make it up.

AustinPowerful · 31/07/2021 20:40

Has anyone ever had a magic bag from yo sushi? Any good?

Wondering whether to get one as there's one available fairly nearby.

Oh how horrible especially about the cheesecake - yuck! Around here the shops with the best ratings are the M&S BP station and Debbie's Garden World. Morrisons rating is OK but not amazing. I guess they're variable around the country. Boobahs I hope you do complain as it sounds like a mistake was made with your bag and the shop needs to know so it doesn't happen to others who may be relying on that food. Please don't feel bad about complaining!

Vanilla1Cookies · 31/07/2021 20:46

It’s my first Morrison’s bag too.

I've messaged them and sent a photo, thanks.

Boobahs · 31/07/2021 21:15

@NotJustACigar

I've messaged them, I did expect that there may have been some pastries/bakery stuff as well but hey ho.

I said further up the thread that I complained once when we arrived to collect a bag and the shop was closed - not just closed, but boarded up and abandoned. They refunded very, very promptly.

Odd that the bag managed to get on there in the first place then? I had that once, the place was very obviously closed down. I complained and they refunded but the cafe's bags continued to be sold on the app, which really puzzled me!
TheGenealogist · 01/08/2021 10:52

Yeah it was very weird. It was as if the place was closed and was being refurbished, there was obviously work going on inside. No idea if it's opened up again but haven't seen them on the app.

As a side note, Too Good to Go are recruiting at the moment - work from home jobs which appear to be selling the idea to local outlets and forwarding leads to their sales team.

I got a really nice box yesterday at BP M&S:

4 apples
6 white rolls
Salmon paté
3 strawberry trifle pots
A sticky toffee pudding for 2
2 sweetcorn
A chicken curry ready meal
A bag of salad leaves
A beetroot and apple mixed salad box

All lovely stuff and my parents got some of it too. I do need to not buy these bags too often because I'm enjoying the lovely food a little too much for my waistline.

RevolutionRadio · 01/08/2021 13:05

I never see anything available here, when it gives the time, is this the time the bags would be advertised of they're available? So I would need to be checking at 3.30?

snaxinyourslacks · 01/08/2021 13:20
I never see anything available here, when it gives the time, is this the time the bags would be advertised of they're available? So I would need to be checking at 3.30?
The time advertised is when they need collecting. So if it says 3.30-4.00 that is collection time. The new bags for the next day tend to go on around 15-30 minutes after collection time.

Vanilla1Cookies · 01/08/2021 14:04

Do you go to customer services in Morrison’s ? Iv never got one from a supermarket before

PizzaPiePizzaPie · 01/08/2021 14:10

Yes the customer service desk. I’m going to get mine. I’m getting it before I go shopping so I don’t double up on anything

TheGenealogist · 01/08/2021 14:21

Just heading off now... will report back!!
