It's a rainy Sunday and I'm surrounded by mountains of washing ! Looking at pictures coming out of Rome of Kittys amazing wedding to her rich gorgeous fiancé and feeling a tad envious Envy

Yes 10 years max gap that’s too old for me personally

I was asked out in my twenties by a same age man from one of those landed gentry families but I turned him down as didn’t fancy him and chose Dh instead who was 🙄😮 when he found outand said what a prat I was! I stand by my decision though!

Oh and the Spencer’s are properly rich Harry and William inherited millions from Diana and Charles is the oldest Spencer son so will be richer than her.

ChristmasShearwater · 26/07/2021 18:07

Harry and William inherited millions from Diana

But that was mainly from her divorce settlement from Prince Charles- and he'd had to borrow much of it from mummy. Diana died before she'd done proper estate planning so HMRC took 40% of her estate in IHT.

and Charles is the oldest Spencer son so will be richer than her

Wonder how much cash he has though as much of his wealth will be tied up in Althorp which will be passed onto his eldest son. No doubt Kitty has a trust fund but I doubt that gives her anywhere near the allowance she'll get from her new husband.

EvilPea · 26/07/2021 18:10

I may be completely wrong but I didn’t think Diana was wealthy? As it goes down the male line. So the family was wealthy but she needed to marry well and was actively encouraged to marry charles for the financial security and benefits to the family

JustLyra · 26/07/2021 18:16

Kitty’s father has also had two very expensive divorces. He’s not a poor man by any means, but most of his wealth is likely tied up in Althorp and “stuff” rather than cash.

No wonder women in their 50s can only get an 80-year-old on Tinder etc if the 62-year-olds are after women of 30 Confused

It’s not a one way street though: a 30 year old woman choosing to marry a 60 year old is an equal partner in that decision. It’s women who are bringing women down. Men know they will find someone who would quite like the comforts and security in return for (bleurgh) having sex with them and be their arm candy. 🤮 That Ricky Gervais joke comes to mind…(‘just don’t look at it when you touch it’).

@Brefugee

Kate's dress was exquisite.

I thought it was OK. But it hadn't been fitted properly around the bust (maybe she lost more weight after the final fitting?) UT woukd have been picked up on Sweubg Bee for thatvGrin

Diana's dress was... Vile and very much of it's time. But again it would lose marks at design College for the poor choice of fabric ginmven how it looked when she arrived at the Cathedral.

Princess Anne's dress, with the Bishop sleeves, in the 70s was also very much of the decade - but it was elegant and doesn't look silly in the way Diana's did.

Also agree Fergie and daughters displayed amazingly good taste in the wedding dress department.

Diana's dress wasn't even OK in it's time, as you say it was vile.

You are right about Fergie and her daughters, their dresses were all good and although it wasn't the done thing to say it at the time Fergie knocked spots of Diana as a bridge. Beautiful dress and clearly blissfully happy bridge. Winning combination.

ancientgran · 26/07/2021 18:53

Fergie and Diana were obviously brides not bridges.

rosetylersbiggun · 26/07/2021 19:10

Beautiful bride, beautiful dress, but the wedding photos look more like an advertising campaign for D&G (the company Kitty represents) than the celebration of a marriage.

Wearing a bunch of different wedding dresses on your big day is v swaggy, though. The blue one is the most gorgeous.

Most aren’t. The thought of a 30 year old - who would almost inevitably want kids - would absolutely terrify most men over 60.
Quirrelsotherface · 26/07/2021 20:12

She said in an interview that this is basically why she never talks about him or their relationship. Because everyone would have a negative opinion. It's nobody's business but theirs, the age gap that is.

She's beautiful, he's rich, they fell in love and what an amazing life they can afford to have together. Good on them.

Quirrelsotherface · 26/07/2021 20:13

I will say it's tacky that the whole thing is apparently sponsored by D&G. It's not like they need the money.

Panickingpavlova · 26/07/2021 20:26

Mrs tang swift, you said ten years and the crucial part, you didn't fancy him!! If you had maybe you'd be with him now!!

Panickingpavlova · 26/07/2021 20:29

I loved Diana's dress when I was little, then I went off it and now when I see it ❤️❤️.

It's incomparable, she was a cream puff.. It was sensational!

MsTSwift · 26/07/2021 20:41

He was my age 😁. Just didn’t fancy him sadly my life could have been very different!

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 26/07/2021 21:10

I suspect age differential is less important when there is perhaps no need to consider the welfare and wellbeing of future children. In addition given the likelihood that these marriages are rarely long term especially as these families have a habit of not staying together forever for one reason or another. It is potentially sad but I suspect this will run for a certain number of years until they fall apart or eventually due to older age. It just make these age in balanced marriages more challenging to be long term sustainable when one will be around for a finite period of time. I am sure they fully understand their expectations and that this can’t possibly last forever with it without financial firepower. I do wish them much joy and happiness and yes he’s very young for his advance age at present and she is stunning and will be a desirable catch in the future perhaps to another divorcee etc. I hope it works for a long time.

Really? I don't know anyone who liked it. I was at a street party for the wedding with my kids. Most of the women went inside to see the dress on TV, the men were left organising the games for the children. I think we all timed food so that we could be inside at the relevant time. I can't remember a single person who thought it was nice.

It was creased, it swamped her. Even her hair didn't look great and she always had great hair.

What did you think of Fergie's dress? I thought it was also the fairytale princess type dress but done so much better.

Panickingpavlova · 26/07/2021 22:17

Ancient it's lavish, cream.. Decadent

And incomparable to anything before or after... I adore it now and she looks so beautiful in it.

Sarah is OK but nothing special.
It was all dreamy and fantasy at Diana's I also prefer the colour of her dress and her tiara, I've never seen one sparkle as much.
Gorgous poor girl..

KillingMeDeftly · 27/07/2021 09:02

Diana's dress was a giant meringue but it's certainly one of the iconic wedding dresses of the 20th century. Fergie's was nice but not as memorable.

ancientgran · 27/07/2021 09:52

I thought Fergie looked fantastic but let's face it the most beautiful woman in the world in the most beautiful dress in the world would be down played because Diana can't be criticised.

For me the biggest fault with Diana's dress was it wore her, she didn't wear it.

I suppose it is a marmite dress, people love it or hate it and everyone I know hated it.

FittedSheet · 27/07/2021 10:23

I have no strong feelings about Diana’s dress either way (or indeed about any wedding dresses, as signalled by me getting married in jeans on my lunch break!) but I think I see the Emanuel (sp?) dress as a sort of unpleasant metaphor for the whole ghastly mess of their ‘courtship’ and marriage. Over-elaborate, over-sized, easily creased, overwhelmed the shy, very young woman wearing it etc.
ancientgran · 27/07/2021 10:26

FittedSheet, I did wear a dress, it wasn't new, full length or white so I'm not that into wedding dresses either. I think your metaphor sums it up really well. Maybe the metaphor was a subliminal message that so many got that made them dislike the dress so much.

Ooodlesofboodles · 27/07/2021 10:59

I agree that the blue dress is truly beautiful. Tbh it sounds like Kitty had a pretty dysfunctional home life growing up. Contrast that with an older, confident man, who can give her a route out and probably supports her to be her own person - well I could see why she might think he is the bees knees. He won't be cowed by her background or her Dad, and has enough of his own money to not be envious or intimidated. Otherwise she would probably be looking at a pink cheeked toff just like her dad. I'd prefer d&g dresses and private jets with a rich and cultured man!

Brefugee · 27/07/2021 11:27

Yep. And completely agree with Fitted Sheet - it was a huge, creased, messy metaphor. I did like the edging lace tound the veil though.

I didn't wear a wedding dress either although I do like looking at them. I hate it when they're "sexy" though. It feels somehow inappropriate. I like it when they have a good v back detail, that's what we see most of 😁 and I really don't like too much see through - Kitty Spencer's bodice is (for me) à bit cheap-looking because of it.

Panickingpavlova · 27/07/2021 11:35

oodles exactly!!

Re Diana, I disagree now I see her in it - her beautiful face peering out....

very good fitted - as a metaphor, I cant see the love for Sarahs dress they were two a penny in the 80s, nothing could replicate dianas dress and I love the colour. At the time and after I went along with the comments re too big, creased, wearing her but now....after all the other royal weddings the dresses are very bland and mesh into each other, I could not remember any other dress except Diana's, perhaps Megan's but no others. Now in the endless clips we see of it - it is fairy tale, larger than life sensational, its amazing and I love it, not saying I would have it but for that moment in time etc the event the pomp, it was amazing I love clouds of tullle, silk....im not wild about these pared back harsh dresses.
