Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Paris again. Once was great, a second time would be dreadful. The beggars were dreadful, and the police response flipped between indifferent and brutal. If he temperature goes over 20c the stench of urine along the quais is horrendous. The Arc du Triomphe is very far out, and not at all Wacky Races. Worst of all, everything looks the same. In London the architecture changes every 400 yards.

Turkey, went on a family holiday with my husband, 2 daughters (15) and (18) and son. We couldn’t go anywhere without being pestered by Turkish young men!

HarebrightCedarmoon · 22/07/2021 13:21

@bringincrazyback

I always find it entertaining on these threads that so many people think they have a comprehensive knowledge of Blackpool from one short trip there. It's a mixed bag just like many other seaside towns.
Nope. I went loads as a kid, it has massively gone downhill and more downmarket than ever since then. Know people who have lived and studied there as well. Also it is one of the roughest places to go out in the country. Just why would anyone bother? There are so many other places in the country and the world.
TroysMammy · 22/07/2021 13:21

Rhodes. The self catering apartments were shit. No air con or tv. It was a mile walk to a decent shop. It was too hot, the crickets were noisy and relentless. There was no public transport except the apartments minibus into Faliraki at 8pm. I'm not into drinking or clubbing so that would have been pointless. You had to put shitty toilet paper in a bin and my boyfriend at the time was a miserable twat.

squishee · 22/07/2021 13:21

Athens. Full of dust that comes down off the Acropolis. Some really dodgy neighbourhoods there (as in any big city). Hawkers everywhere. Show interest in anything in a souvenir shop at your peril.

OTOH I'm one who raves about Croatia!

whynotwhatknot · 22/07/2021 13:21

Oh yes dublin actually been twice wasnt any better second time

PufferFishGoneWrong · 22/07/2021 13:24

@waterlego

Alcatraz is amazing. I’ve been three times and find it fascinating!
I have been a couple of times and would go again. I find it all fascinating too.
FindingMeno · 22/07/2021 13:24

Paris and Amsterdam.
Didn't like the atmosphere in either and didn't feel particularly safe.

Turkey is MASSIVE though. Some areas are really bad for male harrassment, some aren't. Generally you'd want to avoid Bodrum and Marmaris, and I'd never go there in an all female group. But I've been to Turkey four times and have never had a problem.
Peachee · 22/07/2021 13:24

Bournemouth

Daisyhoney · 22/07/2021 13:25

Definitely agree with pp about Cuba - it's by far the worst place I've ever been. The food was diabolical and we got bitten to death by ants and mossies despite using insect repellant . Couldn't wait to leave and it's the only holiday I've ever been on ( and I'm in my fifties ) that I was counting the days till we could fly out of there. Never again!!

chickensouporwine · 22/07/2021 13:25

*Australia.

I don't understand for a fleeting second why anyone would want to emigrate there*.

That's like saying you can't understand why anyone would go to Europe. It's a pretty big place you know.

mewkins · 22/07/2021 13:25

I am so confused! Grin

IseeScottishhills · 22/07/2021 13:26

I loved Paris.
Im amazed no ones mentioned Florida I went to purely out of curiosity on an all expenses paid jolly, I thought Disney was totally waste of (someone else's) money, I hated Bush gardens I dont do roller coasters, I was completely underwhelmed by Kennedy (one friend told me it was best place in the word she ever visited), Discovery Cove was only ok I have ethical concerns about the swimming with dolphins thing. We ate out all the time I thought generally the food even in expensive restaurants was revolting I never want to eat pulled pork swimming in a disgusting brown sauce again. I wouldn't go back or recommend it unless you an under 16 year old Disney nut and with a passion horrific roller coasters.

HarebrightCedarmoon · 22/07/2021 13:26

The worst place for cat calling by men was Rome, and I went with DH. Absolutely blatant. But it wouldn't stop me going back, fabulous city.

ihtwsf · 22/07/2021 13:26

Rome - felt really unsafe. Felt intimidated looking for places to eat - don't know why - something about the way waiters were standing outside restaurants trying to get you to come in.
Felt the same about Venice.

Didn't like Paris or Amsterdam either like a previous poster.

Crinkle77 · 22/07/2021 13:27

Turkey. Hated it. Perhaps it was the area we were staying in but I just found it a bit scruffy, crap nightlife. Lots of being stared at by men. Would never go back.

Benjispruce5 · 22/07/2021 13:27

U.K. places: Torquay, Grimsby, Hunstanton, Blackpool.
Internationally: Canary Islands.

EmbarrassingMama · 22/07/2021 13:28

Brighton.

An arrogant dump.

AdaColeman · 22/07/2021 13:28

Cumbernauld.

But on the other hand I love Paris, Dublin and Athens.

igelkott2021 · 22/07/2021 13:28

Alnwick Castle. Full of tiny kids. I was pregnant at the time and remember seeing all these screaming children and thinking: What Have I Done.

Abouttimemum · 22/07/2021 13:30

Also wouldn’t go back to Vegas, glad I went for a few days but the best thing was the trip to the Grand Canyon. Otherwise just samey.
Wouldn’t go back to the Dominican Republic or lanzarote, born dreadful.

I also love Croatia, we’ve been to the north a few times and the towns there remind me of lake Garda in Italy, which is also beautiful.

There are so many towns and cities in the Uk I wouldn’t go back to!

Winemewhynot · 22/07/2021 13:30

Turkey, people love it but I just couldn’t get away with it.

(Yes I am aware it’s a huge country before anymore says it 😂)

YellowBellyCat · 22/07/2021 13:30

Suffolk. I mean it’s ok, but very remote, takes ages to get there, takes ages to get around, not a lot to do. Pretty villages though. I like Norfolk and thought Suffolk might be as nice but came away thinking Norfolk is nicer and nearer.
