Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Tay1980 - 10 minutes from Bath to Harrogate?! Wow, what do you drive?

Read the damn fucking thread!! We have been over this a jillion times...for the last time Taylor is saying that Harrogate is ten minutes from her fucking house!! Can you all please let this DIE??

PandemicAtTheDisco · 22/07/2021 20:47

I found Blackpool squalid and run down. Some of the nearby beaches were closed due to high pollution levels. Food was terrible. Accomodation hadn't been properly cleaned. People were loud and sweary.

Paris was dirty, expensive and very unwelcoming.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 22/07/2021 20:48

@Smeds

Paris, grubby and we went on a bus tour but the traffic was so bad we didn't move for an hour!

Croatia, some lovely places (eg. plitvice lakes) but it was hard to dodge the coach and cruise masses at times and I don't think we ate a single nice meal whilst there. The food just wasn't for us.

Amazing, I had some of the best meals of my life in Croatia (and the bar is high!). I had the most incredible octopus salad in a roadside taverna I still reminisce about it nearly 10years later. And some crayfish in spicy tomato sauce in a little restaurant by the sea that were just sepctacular. And that's not even mentioning the roast suckling pig you can get on a huge sharing plate at various roadside stops. Plus we stopped in Zagreb for a day and had fabulous goulash. Gosh I just want to go back. We loved the small coastal areas around Trogir, but also on Istria - the little coastal town of Rovinj. The lakes were super busy so I wouldn't bother again but the of the country side was so beautiful I don't think you are missing out.
Lovemusic33 · 22/07/2021 20:48

I have been to quite a few places, there’s not many I wouldn’t go back too, though we did stay at a really doggy caravan park in Loe many years ago which seemed to be full of druggies and alcoholics, the police were called out several times as the guy opposite kept threatening to set fire to the caravan with his wife and kids inside 😬.

I went to Jamaica many many years ago, it was lovely but I hear it’s not safe to go there now so I probably wouldn’t go back.

Bath is lovely and not near Harrogate 🤔

Rubyrecka · 22/07/2021 20:48

Turkey.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 22/07/2021 20:50

I'm not fussed about Paris but I would go again as I'm sure there is lots I didn't see. I wasn't fussed by Florida....but I'd still go back.

I'd happily never set foot in Birmingham again and the same for Liverpool. Never understood the love.

waterlego · 22/07/2021 20:54

@Abhannmor Yes! Eugene! Thank you. And yes, exactly as you describe.

We felt like celebrities at some points. We were in a supermarket one day (may not have been Eugene, but in that area) and a small group of employees gathered to hear our accents 😆 In another town, we were directed to the ‘Moose Lodge’ as being the best place to have breakfast. I think it is a local community group a bit like Lions or Rotary. They too were fascinated with us and treated us like royalty. They wanted us to try everything on the menu, and gave us badges and pins when we left. Some of the loveliest people I’ve met anywhere in the world.

RosesAndHellebores · 22/07/2021 20:54

And Santorini

Twokitstwokats · 22/07/2021 20:59

New York
Delhi
both too noisy for me. Delhi manic and hot and dirty too.

I love the Canaries.

Liverbird77 · 22/07/2021 21:00

Chicago. Boring.
Copenhagen. Boring and cold.

firetruckandduck · 22/07/2021 21:01

Paris. Absolutely nothing like I imagined it to be, felt very grotty and unsafe

Beggars using puppies that looked either dead or dying was horrible to see too :(

Mb76 · 22/07/2021 21:02

Wow I like this thread 🙂 I travelled a lot before COVID, mostly solo and for work. Here’s my list:
Agree with everyone who said Paris. I’ve been several times and it’s never grown on me. Especially the metro. Not for the faint hearted. South of France including Nice and Marseille, also agree with whoever said Marseille airport, definitely one of the worst of many I’ve been to. Quite like the North of France but my favourite place is Strasbourg.
Also agree with Milan and Napoli, but love Rome, Florence and Venice.
Wasn’t fussed about Geneva but loved Zurich. Really loved Lugano as well and Lucerne, and St Gallen.
Didn’t care much for Olso or Stavanger but adore Bergen.
Vienna was ok but Innsbruck has my heart, would love to go back there more than once.
Croatia - liked Split but not Zagreb.
Liked Amsterdam but I get it why some people don’t. I found the cyclists there to be the most aggressive compared to other towns and cities in the Netherlands.
I absolutely love Germany but not a fan of Berlin, been twice and don’t care if I never go back. Some places in the north are a bit grubby like Essen and Dortmund. Freiburg is gorgeous and so charming.
Really liked Antwerp and Ghent in Belgium but not Brussels.
Liked San Francisco when my family lived there but it was 20 years ago and I heard things have changed for the worse, sad to hear this.
Love Tampa Bay Area of Florida but not the rest of it and really didn’t care for Miami.
Love/hate Moscow, but prefer St Petersburg although both cities are sadly very polluted.
Really love Kyiv and L’viv in Ukraine.
Prague was beautiful but there was almost too much going on there and it felt quite overwhelming.
Loved Budapest and would go back..
didn’t see the appeal of Dubai… weird place
Didn’t care for Barcelona but loved Madrid, really loved Santander.
In the U.K. I didn’t get along with Birmingham and Coventry, kept getting lost there. Would not care to return to Crawley or Croydon. Oh and would never set foot again on the bus from Glasgow to Braehead. Or Meadowhall.

WeHaveComeSoFar · 22/07/2021 21:03

I loved Paris.

I'd never go back to Paphos in Cyprus; found it rather dull and lifeless. We were pretty bored and out of things to do by day 3.

TheOriginalMrsMoss · 22/07/2021 21:04

@Listener2021

Venice.
Noooooooo, I won't hear of it! It is my most favourite place in the world (ok, well, one of them...)

Stepping out of the station to be greeted by the bustle of the Grand Canal can't be beaten. It makes me happy just to think of it.

MuckyPlucky · 22/07/2021 21:05

@SmidgenofaPigeon - wow that’s bonkers that you know that place and that particular horrendous owner! It’s cheered me up knowing it’s not just a few of us disgruntled customers who thought he was an arsehole! I feel vindicated now in my scathing Trip Advisor review in which I called him out for being money-grubbing, rude, abrasive and dim-witted!

Do you happen to know if the site has planning permission? Seemed to not meet safety standards when we were there. I reported it to the local council online but never heard back. It’s a death-trap and a money-trap. Urgh, never again!

Bookaholic73 · 22/07/2021 21:05

Agree with Las Vegas. Boring and not my cup of tea at all.

Also, St Ives in the summer. A totally different ball game in the winter though.

sage46 · 22/07/2021 21:06

Marmaris and Basingstoke.

Lulu1919 · 22/07/2021 21:08

Glastonbury ...we had a nice coffee but I wouldn't go back even if in the area !

CherryPieface · 22/07/2021 21:08

@Rubyrecka

Turkey.
Gosh, I’m surprised at that, I loved Turkey. Started with a few days in Istanbul then did a historical tour through Troy, Ephesus, Gallipoli, Pergamum then onto a beach stay in Kusadasi. Loved it, plus the food was out of this world!
tealappeal · 22/07/2021 21:09

@sage46 Funny you say Basingstoke - I was once offered a job there and rejected it because I couldn't bear the thought of having to travel there every day!

FaceyRomford · 22/07/2021 21:10

Munich. Dull as ditchwater.

MuchTooTired · 22/07/2021 21:11

Mauritius. Bloody awful place if you like or have dogs!

Egghead68 · 22/07/2021 21:12

Corsica

DazedandConcerned · 22/07/2021 21:13

Blackpool - hated it every time I’ve been since I was old enough to not be entertained by a bucket and spade. Grew up and realised what a shit hole it was.

Niagara Falls - like Blackpool but not as much nudity.

Turin - seen it once was enough. Sketchy in parts. Egyptian museum was best thing there along with the original Eataly.

Tallinn - seen it once. Was enough. Lovely place but very tiny.

Kristiansand - expensive. Nothing open on weekdays during the day. Boring.

MondayYogurt · 22/07/2021 21:13

Tiruchirappalli

The car horns never, I mean never ever, stop honking.

I'm also curious how anyone could feel unsafe in Japan. It must have been the seediest part?
