Passport renewal

Anyone renewed a child’s passport recently? I had three weeks in my head as typical turnaround.
Just gone online to do it and it’s saying 10 weeks!

Stupidly I had missed any press saying it would be taking longer. I did mine a year ago and got it back in a week.

Any current turnaround times?

@ZZTopGuitarSolo

Applied June 26.

Passport is arriving today.

(I applied from the US and did it all online.)

Docs were received at Passport Office July 5th and they sent the new passport July 10th.
snowspider · 15/07/2021 14:27

I did mine at the post office at a couple of weeks ago. They did my photo and completed the digital application and I handed in my old passport. That was Friday and I received the new passport in the post on the Tuesday. Various texts and emails in between, the first 10 minutes after I left the Post Office.

Delatron · 15/07/2021 14:28

That’s good @ZZTopGuitarSolo so about 5 days to process once they confirm receipt.

Wow @snowspider that was quick.

Feeling a bit more hopeful now!

OP, we've just done our DC's and I was worried about the 10 weeks mention too, but it took ten days from us sending the application in online to it arriving at our house!

Delatron · 15/07/2021 14:35

Thank you @Loudestcat14 that 10 week timeline in the website is scary! Pleased to hear it only took 10 days.

We've just DS passport renewal. Took 11 days From application to receiving the new one.

Delatron · 15/07/2021 16:03

Thanks @ImAbsolutelyTwatted that’s a good turnaround time too.

This is a helpful thread to give current times!

That’s good *@ZZTopGuitarSolo* so about 5 days to process once they confirm receipt.
Yes, and I hadn't actually sent them everything they say that they require so I wasn't sure if they would just reject the application (if you have a second passport you're supposed to send a colour photocopy of Every. Single. Page in the passport).
Delatron · 16/07/2021 10:40

Sounds a faff @ZZTopGuitarSolo and good they approved it anyway.

I’ve just had the email to say they’ve received the old passport so hoping for a quick turnaround from now!

We did my husbands on 1st July and sent the old passport the next day. Got an update they received it on the 6th and then the status changed to passport being processed the 13th and it still says the same. We are due to fly Sunday, doesn't look like he is going to make it 😭 everyone in my family who applied in the last month or so has received it in less than 9 days. Im gutted.

He could yeah if it arrives in time but its still saying being processed this morning and my cousin said once his said it had been approved and printed it took four days to get to him so he may not get it on time either way sadly it seems. The kids are absolutely gutted were crying loads yesterday. It was a gamgle but I genuinely thought it would come as everyone I have spoken with his has theres so fast.

awkwardd · 17/07/2021 08:46

26th June: applied for DD passport renewal
29 June: identity confirmed. Prompted to send old passport
30 June: old passport sent 1st class recorded delivery
2 July: old passport received
8 July: passport approved and printed
12 July: passport received (was posted while I was at work)

Total of 2 weeks and 2 days, but waited 3 days for DDs identity to be confirmed.

Delatron · 17/07/2021 08:56

Oh no @Scbchl that is so frustrating. I hope it arrives in the next few days and something can be salvaged. Annoying as once approved it should be quicker.

Argh @TheBuggerlugs what is it saying in the Twitter feed? I have my fingers crossed for you.

Thanks for that timeline @awkwardd its really helpful.

I lied above, it was just over a week.
Applied 22 June
Identity confirmed 23 June
Passport sent 24 June
Passport recieved by HMPO 25 June
No idea when printed - they didnt update me on that
New passport recieved 1 July.
(Old passport returned 13 July)

TheWashingMachine · 17/07/2021 09:15

Ah @TheBuggerlugs I guess at least you can cancel and have a back up plan.

The way things are going with the rules on travel changing constantly we may cancel now. I can’t cope with the stress!

My friends just told me her husbands continued to say being processed even after they received it so I'm praying my husbands is the same and it may arrive today.

GrealishHairband · 17/07/2021 10:48

@Scbchl you get a text every step of the process.

This is the sequence so it’s unlikely it has been sent and you’re unaware. Sorry. I hope it comes soon. The three I have renewed in the last couple of weeks have all come back in around 5-10 working days. Longest is DD’s but it’s her first adult one and we couldn’t find her old passport so had to get her identity checked again.

Passport renewal
PeonyTime · 17/07/2021 11:06

Seems like its variable, GrealishHairband.
We have no update after passport recieved by HMPO, but have the passport back.

LynetteScavo · 17/07/2021 12:21

I've just renewed DDs passport (child to adult- had to send off to Belfast) it's been dispatched, so a total of just over three weeks.

We have no plans to go anywhere, but it took 6 months for DS to get his provisional licence last year, so I'm going to apply for DDs really early so she's ready to go when she turns 17.
