Passport renewal

Anyone renewed a child’s passport recently? I had three weeks in my head as typical turnaround.
Just gone online to do it and it’s saying 10 weeks!

Stupidly I had missed any press saying it would be taking longer. I did mine a year ago and got it back in a week.

Any current turnaround times?

These are all promising timelines thanks @highlighterpink and @PeonyTime you’re helping my stress levels!

I got one child's back in about 10 days, the other took 3 weeks but that was because I made a mistake on the application, they rang me about it and the passport arrived 2 days later

Delatron · 12/07/2021 21:37

Thanks @Pacer111 10 days seems to be the average with 3-4 weeks as worse case I think! So hopefully my 5 weeks will be enough!

I did mine and my daughter's online a couple of weeks ago, 9 days for hers and 10 for mine from application to having the new one delivered Smile

Delatron · 12/07/2021 21:59

That’s good @ClayRose I’m feeling a bit more hopeful!

If you need a passport urgently you can take it in person to the passport office. You have to hang around for a few hours while they process it, but you'll get it the same day.

Seeingadistance · 12/07/2021 23:24

I renewed mine last month and it only took a couple of weeks despite 10 weeks being the timescale mentioned on their website.

Cornwallnewbie · 12/07/2021 23:31

About 3 weeks a month ago

Delatron · 13/07/2021 07:37

Thanks all.

I think because I’ve now started the application I can’t stop it and do the in person fast track.

I had in my head three weeks as a worse case so thought it would be ok as we have five weeks until we travel. I’m not sure whether you can cancel the application if the passport doesn’t turn up and do a last minute fast track.

I think judging by responses on here 10 days is average and a few have had to wait three weeks so hopefully it will be ok.

Mine was about 2.5 weeks and I got it 2 weeks ago

Delatron · 13/07/2021 19:33

Thanks @MediocrePenguin

@TheBuggerlugs the guy in the Post Office today said it’s taking about two weeks at the moment. I figure they have insider information! And that backs up what most have said on this thread. Fingers crossed for you too. I’ll keep you posted on when mine arrives!

My slight worry is everyone will start to send off renewals now with the quarantine requirements changing. I’m just hoping it will be quick enough!

I hope you get a quick turnaround @TheBuggerlugs some on this thread have got passports back very quickly.

MediocrePenguin · 14/07/2021 12:28

@TheBuggerlugs I was worried about that because I did the same and it took almost a week between receiving it and them sending an email to say it had been received. However it was very quick turnaround after that

Abet08x · 14/07/2021 12:29

I sent off for my first adult passport right at the height of covid in the first lockdown. Start to finish it took 8 weeks.

MediocrePenguin · 14/07/2021 12:37

I can be more helpful that that actually as I can see exactly how long it too via the texts:

Sent old passport 1st class recorded - 9th June
Received my passport alert - 16th June
Approved passport application. - 22nd June
Sent out new passport - 23rd June
Delivered new passport - 25th June

Pootle40 · 14/07/2021 12:39

We renewed my son's in mid June and got it back after 10 days.

That’s great news @TheBuggerlugs it seems on here once the text saying they’ve received it comes through it’s quite speedy.

I sent mine recorded delivery on Tuesday for arrival Wednesday so I think I’m about a day behind you. Hoping for the text tomorrow!!

Got DDs back within a week. We applied online. I also vouched for neighbours newborns application and they got that within the week.

Bananarice · 15/07/2021 13:46

I applied for ds3 first passport back in February. It took 10days.

This thread reminded me I need to renew my passport soon. I think it is better to wait until September.

Delatron · 15/07/2021 13:48

Thanks @redfairy and @Bananarice these stats are all helping!
