Hi all........

There is no doubt that various companies (transcription or otherwise) are exploiting employment loopholes for capital gain, and the NHS is an easy target. These companies DO exploit workers, but yes of course, the choice is yours as to whether or not you are happy to work under those conditions.

homeworkmum · 10/12/2021 11:55

Humility does go a long way, so does being kind and respecting one another - its a two way street.

Whitestar5 · 10/12/2021 12:11

.............but while you are, they will continue to exploit that fact.

choice456 · 10/12/2021 14:05

Theoretically therefore Whitestar5, one is exploiting oneself by continuing this style of working . Our decision making process is often complex; the outcomes of our decisions are ours. I am not playing devil’s advocate but think we need to own our choices and either get on with it or revisit that choice and take steps to change it. Life really is far too short to regret the step not taken. As far as Organisations will continue to ‘exploit’ while people continue to work for them, this has to be balanced against other benefits such work brings (back to decision making again ). For me, this is flexibility/lack of commute/parking charges/office politics/simple tasking etc. Those things need to be added into true value of our choice. Its unfortunate there seem to be people feeling trapped on here and that they feel they don't have the means to change it. For me, happy to stay, even after nearly 10 years. If I have a gripe or disagreement, I take it straight to the company as realistically only they can change it.

Whitestar5 · 10/12/2021 14:30

Yes exactly, your need for those things is exploited and does not justify poor pay and conditions and what the companies are doing is not ethical and not right. I think you misunderstood, or maybe I didn't explain it properly, but I said if you are HAPPY to work for low pay and poor conditions so be it, but if not make a stand for change, because this is happening everywhere, with both employed and SE jobs and soon there will be no choice at all.

danblack87 · 10/12/2021 14:53

@choice456: My decision to work from home, and specifically for Dict8, is simply because it was the right time for me, suited my needs and flexibility, my family and my lifestyle. I have no wish to stand at a bust stop in the freezing cold weather nor rain, nor find at the end of a long day at the hospital that the bus has been delayed by one hour. I can tip out of bed when I want and sit in my PJ's all day, not have to put on make-up, etc. I love the aspect of the life that I have chosen and, in that respect I am happy. I earn what I can when I can and I would not change it for the world Smile.

danblack87 · 10/12/2021 15:04

Well it has been a very productive today and there are still loads of tasks on - I worked late yesterday evening ... couldn't sleep ... got up early. Very soon I will stop. I have rather a headache

wfh21 · 10/12/2021 20:09

@homeworkmum really ??????? I suggested she set up a positive DICT8 thread if she was not happy with the one she was on how does that constitute bullying ? You no what I am seriously offended by your comment you come on here full of self righteous indignation without any insight as to what you have posted to me. You call me a bully and insinuate I could be the cause of someone committing suicide ? How does that make you sound ?

Chrissols · 10/12/2021 20:28

Hi all, just got out of hospital……sounds a bit heated on here……

flutterby18 · 10/12/2021 20:39

@Chrissols - Nice to see you back on the thread and hope you're ok.

Gally123 · 10/12/2021 20:43

@Chrissols - I did wonder when you were quiet before whether you were having your long awaited operation. Hope it all went well.

@HomeWorkMum09 - for which, if you noted, I did apologise.

HomeWorkMum09 · 10/12/2021 21:10

@Gally123 which if you read back, she directly asked you if that apology was for herself and you completely ignored her. Was you too proud to give a sincere apology. I seriously hope you do not get yourself caught up in this next 'bullying' round that seems to be building.

Whitestar55 · 10/12/2021 21:55

@Chrissols Welcome back, hope you are well.

carosel2 · 10/12/2021 22:56

Im certainly NOT apologising for having an opinion and @wfh21 I totally agree with all your comments. But what really disturbed me personally was that comment from @homeworkmum about blaming our comments to make someone commit suicide was vile beyond disgusting and disturbing as Ive gone through that with a young family member. Hope you are ashamed beyond belief of yourself for even having the sheer audacuty and filth of a mind to use such tragedy to get your point of view across over a stupid dict8 forum

homeworkmum · 11/12/2021 03:46

@carosel2 Really? I have no reason be ashamed. I simply referred to the link between cyberbullying and suicide. And before you try and shame me - I have been there holding the hand of someone hanging to life by a thread after being the victim of bullying online. It is not ok in any format and it did happen on this forum.
I rest my case - clearly the target has well and truly moved to my back!

danblack87 · 11/12/2021 09:15

@Chrissols: Hi, welcome back. Hope the operation went well and you are not feeling too poorly Flowers.

Chrissols · 11/12/2021 09:20

@Gally123 it was a joke, sat in hospital gown from 7.30am nil by mouth only to have op cancelled 12 hours later. 100 miles from where I live so other half had paid for a hotel so he could visit me on the ward for the next couple of days. Was told they have a duty now to do the op within 28 days, and then added ‘but that’s not going to happen’. I am really not feeling the love for the NHS at the moment 😡

Chrissols · 11/12/2021 09:26

Thanks for all the ‘welcome backs’ everyone. Hope everything calms down on here soon as it’s a great place to come and chat, ask advice, have a general moan and groan etc. 🎅🏻🎅🏻🎅🏻

OP posts:
Gally123 · 11/12/2021 09:32

@Chrissols - I am not surprised you are feeling a little miffed. From what I remember - unless it has changed - they are allowed to cancel an operation up to three times. I am awaiting an appointment with local hospital but not had one yet (should have been November) and someone I know told me that all outpatient appointments had been cancelled and they are not even doing phone or zoom appointments (which I had last year). I read yesterday a bit on the BBC website about the cyber attack on the Irish hospital system and its effect on patient information etc. Things are bad at the moment. What happened to all the millions that Captain Tom raised? Went to managers as usual I supposed and not where it was meant. Chin up.

@carosel2 Oh well looks like we shall have to agree to disagree. I simply called out bullying and I am not ashamed of it.

Life would be boring if everyone agreed all the time.
You dont believe there was bullying towards KAnthony but my comments calling it out are bullying? Oh well, like I say, we shall have to agree to disagree.

Chrissols · 11/12/2021 09:56

@Gally123 I had my pre op and signed my consent 10 days short of a year ago. The anaesthetist came to see me thirty minutes before it was cancelled and assured me it was going ahead and they were scrubbing up as we spoke. There was one girl there that was on her third day and she was cancelled too, as were the rest that turned up that day…….then they say they can’t cope with the long waiting lists! From what I saw, it’s them creating them……and I work for the NHS 😤
