Hi all........

OP posts:
deewu · 02/12/2021 11:05

@Gally123 Hooray for spring! Just wondering what everyone's average task length is. I have just added up the last 10 I have done and it is 14.5 lines. Would be interesting to know everyone's average, I have a feeling it might vary considerably depending on specialties. I am just feeling nosy today :)

Whitestar5 · 02/12/2021 11:12

@danblack87 Sorry to hear your sad news, hope you're ok.

danblack87 · 02/12/2021 12:02

@Whitestar5: feeling a little more with it today!! Daughter's coming for a 'mummy cuddle' L8R!

danblack87 · 02/12/2021 12:04

@deewu: 80 lines in 7 tasks

Whitestar5 · 02/12/2021 12:30

@danblack That should help, glad you have support.

Whitestar5 · 02/12/2021 12:31

@deewu, does the 'line' query relate to DICT8 or Tpro?

deewu · 02/12/2021 12:54

@Whitestar5 - Dict8 I added up a line of 10 and divided by 10 to get average, @danblack87 I am hoping yours would be a bit better if you looked at 10!

Gally123 · 02/12/2021 15:02

@deewu - my average is 15.3. I do tend to pick the tasks with the voices I know and if in any doubt go for the shorter tasks, as I hate to start one then have the dictator sit back and mumble half way through and have to reject it.

wfh21 · 02/12/2021 17:08

I am wondering why I have received feedback requesting please put message to secretary and not doctor ? Unless asked to leave message to secretary I always leave this as is. How do I know who is checking the letter at the other end ? Really some of this feedback is embarrassing

Gally123 · 02/12/2021 17:25

@wfh21 - this feedback has also annoyed me. I think it is one of their new rules that they never told us about but insist we do. I put a message to secretary if a name is mentioned. The feedback gets to the point where now sometimes I do not take any notice; if they cannot be bothered to explain properly, I cannot be bothered either.

Whitestar5 · 02/12/2021 18:30

If you mean in the 'notes box' does that not have 'Note to doctor' as default?

Whitestar5 · 02/12/2021 18:47

They need to change the default then don't they.

Workingfromhomenow · 02/12/2021 19:24

That's confusing. I haven't had that feedback, but I always leave it as Note to Doctor unless it's obviously the dictator leaving a note for the secretary, when I change it to Note to Secretary. I'm sure most of our work goes to the secretary first but, who knows, maybe some of the doctors do check their own. Unlikely in my experience in offices!

Workingfromhomenow · 02/12/2021 19:27

@deewu My average for the last 10 is 20.7

deewu · 02/12/2021 20:18

I just type over the whole thing with the message (no note to anyone) unless they actually say "note to ?????" I did get pulled up on this once probably eight years ago now.

deewu · 02/12/2021 20:20

Something strange happened after I posted about number of lines and I had one really long task 200 lines (unheard of) and another of 60!

Whitestar5 · 02/12/2021 23:22

I find it annoying that 'note to doctor' comes up highlighted, so you have to click and faff to remove the highlighting before you can type in the box. Also I once worked out that a message to the secretary was worth 20 pence.

Whitestar5 · 02/12/2021 23:23

I also remember another time typing a message in the notes box that was longer than that in the letter.

Gally123 · 03/12/2021 08:15

@Whitestar5 - how did you work out that a message to secretary is worth 20p? We do not get paid for messages left in the box. As for messages being longer than letters, happens lots of times, some doctors just leave messages. I remember once a very long message to secretary about private patient fees (more than my monthly mortgage).

wfh21 · 03/12/2021 09:36

@Gally123 yes I just glance over the feedback these days if I need entertaining !!! I found it a bit rich being told off for something I don't even get paid for !!!!!

I believe we are a godsend to our fellow medical secretaries in the NHS by taking up the slack typing this appalling dictation and I personally do not think they are quibbling about who a message is directed at. Imagine day in day out having to face this rubbish without the choice of leaving the keyboard and doing the ironing !!!!!

Gally123 · 03/12/2021 09:45

@wfh21 - after being "told off" regarding not leaving a message word for word - I think I missed off the "Thank you" at the end as I thought the "Please" at the beginning was sufficient, I raised the issue with them that I did not think they could legally comment on something that is not paid for and that we leave out of the kindness of our hearts. The reply was just to confirm that it is not paid work, so I continue to write only the important parts of messages and not extra bits or chat. I did type once in its entirety a message to the secretary saying "type this letter yourself and do not put it out to DICT8"! hehe.

danblack87 · 03/12/2021 09:49

I had a message once stating: "General Practitioner" typed. Please type "GP" as per dictated! Hmmmmmm? This at the start of the letter as per template.

Workingfromhomenow · 03/12/2021 10:27

When I get daft feedback like that, I pat myself on the back and think they've checked and can't find any real mistakes in my work.
Has anyone had any of the Well Done emails lately? - I haven't but get the odd Feedback one.

danblack87 · 03/12/2021 11:10

Not had a well done e-mail for Yonks!

danblack87 · 03/12/2021 11:14

Another pearler of feedback: "CC: Patient" Dictated - please type "Patient" rather than Mr J Bloggs (the name of the patient clearly dictated in the RE: line)!!! I could not stop laughing forever.
