Hi all........

OP posts:
Gally123 · 02/10/2021 09:53

@KAnthony - the time of posting cheques varies, can be a few days can be a week or more.

As to setting up a Facebook group, it has been mentioned previously, however facebook is not anonymous and the DICT8 employees who follow this thread would be able to identify individuals, which is the beauty of Mumsnet in that no-one knows who you are. (Although they might have a guess from some of the comments re feedback etc).

KAnthony · 02/10/2021 09:58

@Gally123 yes that makes total sense!

How is everyone finding Dict8, I’ve just completed my first month, am unsure whether to register with other companies or just stick with this for the time being. Am only in one speciality though.

danblack87 · 02/10/2021 10:05

@KAnthony: I find my cheques are received within 5 days but then of course you have to wait the mandatory time for the cheque to clear. Posted my invoice this morning so expect my cheque to arrive Thursday/Friday of next week!!

danblack87 · 02/10/2021 10:07

@Gally123: I like this forum because it is anonymous and specific to the users only. I would not encourage this on Facebook.

Gally123 · 02/10/2021 10:14

@danblack87 - yep, that's what I said.

KAnthony · 02/10/2021 10:17

@danblack87 I sent mine of yesterday morning so hopefully I’ll receive it mid next week then 🙂

Looking forward to receiving invoice it, found it quite enjoyable being able to make a wage while still being able to do gymnastics/swimming class with the children abs the nursery runs, works well!

KAnthony · 02/10/2021 10:20

Obviously my spelling and grammar is more accurate on the PC then on my phone 🙈

Gally123 · 03/10/2021 09:17

@danblack87 - re what I mentioned the other day about updates - I had to get out my old Dell laptop yesterday to print my invoice as this new laptop has no DVD and so I have not been able to install the printer software (need to figure out downloading online). As ever the old Dell took two attempts to work and then took 30 minutes switching on etc. After printing my invoice because it was so slow and unresponsive I did an update search (via "settings") - first it told me it had checked for updates when I had first logged on and nothing showed up however, I wanted to to sure so I did another search for updates - and it came up with SIX updates and one optional one, so I spent another three hours downloading and installing updates! I have learnt that if something seems not quite right with a laptop - search for updates, via "settings".

danblack87 · 04/10/2021 09:14

This 'feedback' has completely pissed off my day:
Patient "RE": line formatting
Please check with the DICT8 template regarding the correct formatting for the patient RE: line.
• 03/10/2021
o NHS Number and Hospital Number should be typed on the Re. line, rather than the line below

My response: "With the name and DOB + NHS Number + Hospital Number they did not fit on one line!!! I have been doing this for some 10 years + - please enlighten me (it is a ridiculous feedback in my opinion) ... It is not an ERROR.

Dict8 response: 'Whilst they may not fit on one line on your computer/laptop, they fit on most. Just let the text wrap around naturally without trying to format'

My opinion 'Ludicrous'

CROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS to the max

danblack87 · 04/10/2021 09:16

It is not even on the BLOODY template AND the template does not even mention BOODY wrap-around

Cherryblossom114 · 04/10/2021 12:33

...And the District Number also.. you have sometimes to tell yourself if only these checkers were able to think outside of the box. I would say they have to find something to show they're doing their jobs.. half of it is petty stuff..

danblack87 · 04/10/2021 14:00

The feedback to me was ridiculous - anyone worth their salt knows you do not split figures and dates on a wrap around GRRRRRRrrrrrrrr

danblack87 · 04/10/2021 14:05

Same as "Mr or Mrs Bloggs" - They should be kept together too on the same line but NOooo 'wrap around' STUPID.

Whitestar5 · 04/10/2021 14:40
@Chrissols - I think Tpro must have changed several aspects of their employment in the time when you joined pre-first lockdown and I joined post first lockdown in that they changed not only the pay but conditions - I had to sign a digital contract which states 150 letters minimum per week (although it is possible to do 150 short letters to make the requirement if time is short!). Also, as mentioned, since I joined they seem to have changed that now to six hours per day. Many companies I have looked at now specify they require typists to be full time. Conditions seem to be changing all the time as more people are wanting to work from home and so employers can pick and choose. At the moment I am not finding 150 letters minimum with Tpro a problem.

Also, when I want time off (holiday or as now watching the olympics and only working a little bit) I just email in about a month before to give notice, for which they ask.
So working for Tpro and some other companies, is on a self-employed basis for peanuts and they dictate how many letters you have to type and how many hours you have to work and you have to inform them when you are taking an (unpaid) holiday? Wow don't you just love transcription work not haha! DICT8 has its advantages I suppose, although the rate of pay is not one of them. Think I'll give the others a miss, I'd be better off in a proper job.

danblack87 · 04/10/2021 17:42

@whitestar5 I stick with Dict8 for that very same reason. I am on zero hour contract for whoever I work with; Freelance works for me/ I get odd jobs too like typing CV''s/theses.

ShanJG · 05/10/2021 17:45

Hi guys! So I finally got started with T-Pro last week. I’m starting to slowly get used to their system. It’s quite a lot to take in compared to Dict8 and a lot of things done differently. I do prefer Dict8’s straight forward system however I cannot complain about T-Pro’s constant stream of work. It never dips below 1400 letters in my server and that’s me only with one hospital currently they have more you can type for! I’ve been typing all hours and weekends etc it’s been fab. They are so friendly as well and always there to help. Hope you guys are goodSmile

KAnthony · 05/10/2021 18:46

Just wondering if people give themselves daily targets or letters/money to hit daily/weekly and how many are actually reaching them?

ShanJG · 08/10/2021 12:13

When typing for Dict8 I had no set target as I was only getting maybe up to 10 letters every few days. I was just typing what I could as they came on my server. I have since recently started with TPro and I’m giving myself a target of between £20-£50 a day. It depends on my schedule and what else I’m doing that day. If I put in the work I am more than managing the £50 a day. The days I want to do less work I’m managing the £20 mark a day. My target is between £150-£200 a week currently as I also have another part time job in the NHS. So far I am reaching my target. This also includes me working weekends and week nights. I am not strict work times lol.

KAnthony · 08/10/2021 12:26

@ShanJG thank you for replying, was wondering what others views on Dict8 were as it’s only my second month and was wondering if the workload would remain the same or increase/decrease. My first month I managed £1600 and for October I’m averaging £85 a day which I am more than pleased with and hoping the workload continues at the same amount.

Gally123 · 08/10/2021 13:04

@KAnthony - not sure why you felt the need to post this as you are presumably aware that the rest of us only manage to earn a fraction of that amount. And we do try very, very hard to earn more. The last person who claimed to be earning that kind of money turned out to be a DICT8 employee trying to create a favourable impression of the company. It did not work.

KAnthony · 08/10/2021 13:10

@Gally123 because as I’ve mentioned I am completely new to this, have not read through any previous threads (as there seems quite a lot to go through) was unsure on what to expect for myself or if my personal targets were to high/low, whether the amount of work coming through can fluctuate month to month so I can grasp some sort of idea of what to expect going forward, whether it being this high was a one off, whether people work along side doing this-they’re were many numerous reasons and I’m still quite unclear on it. I can assure you I am not an employee of Dict8, just a stay at home mum with very tired fingers at the moment and trying to find the work/mum balance!

Gally123 · 08/10/2021 13:18

@KAnthony - I suggest you read the threads. Most transcribers, when new and in their first few months with DICT8, only have one specialty and seem to earn maybe £20-£30 a day if they are lucky. Even when I had seven specialties I did not earn that kind of money. The only person who has ever claimed to earn that much was an employee of DICT8. There is something that just does not add up about your claim to earn on average of £85 a day.

KAnthony · 08/10/2021 13:24

@Gally123 I am unsure as to why your so sceptical about me? I worked as a Medical Secretary for the NHS for 10 years but did not return after having my daughter. Audio typing to me is my form of release, headphones on and switch off to everything else-it’s a second nature. I am only in one typing group but possibly it is a very busy one, I have noticed there does seem to be more this month than last and I am putting in a lot of hours to make the amounts.

I will have to take some time over the weekend to sit and go back to beginning to read through all the messages to update myself before ‘putting my foot’ in anything in the future.

ShanJG · 08/10/2021 13:26

T-Pro had informed me October is their busiest month but unsure if it’s the same with Dict8. I am only on one speciality with Dict8 at the moment and I was lucky to make £5-£10 a day seriously. I also have a little girl so I can’t just work non stop. I try to do as much as possible when she is at nursery or asleep!Smile

KAnthony · 08/10/2021 13:44

@ShanJG yes, Monday and Tuesday we have gymnastics and swimming so can only do bits then but make up for it in the evening and then use the other days while she’s in nursery to concentrate fully on it or evenings when she’s asleep, I’m sometimes sat there at 11pm if there is any waiting to be done. Good for you for continuing though, I think I might have lost interest if I wasn’t earning much but then again anything is better than nothing. I also looked at T-Pro last night, one to consider if this ever slows down (as I’m sure it might)
