Hi all........

OP posts:
ShanJG · 29/09/2021 12:28

I did not realise there was weekend work with Dict8. I haven’t came across any yet anyway. I have been with Dict8 now for about 4 months and I have £200 sitting there haha. I start with T-Pro tomorrow I have just found out and they apparently have plenty of work and good work so I’m really really hoping I can make some good money. The system seems a lot more hassle than Dict8 though so that may take up some time. At least until I get used to it. Don’t worry we l have those days. Get yourself a cuppa.Wink

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 12:36

Anyway, so the hourly rate varies widely - just checked another task and that came out as £5.44/hr ... I am not having a good day!!!

Gally123 · 29/09/2021 12:40

@danblack87 - I make it £6.84 an hour - 20 lines at .08p =£1.60, divided by 14 mins =11p a minute, x 60 mins =£6.85.

Still not a good rate .

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 12:44

@Gally123: I see your working out!!! I was doing it by the 1/4 hr which made a fair difference. I have checked several now. So given that I started working at 1/2 9 my hourly rate for the morning equates to £5.84/hr which, to be honest, is completely shite **

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 12:50

@SHANJG: Thanks Shan ... There has been plenty of work recently and, yes, I can do a fair bit at the weekend as I don't have my little visitor (my grand-daughter!!) - Sometimes the weekends are better than in the week in terms of tasks delivered (better quality) I find; but I guess it depends on Speciality.

ShanJG · 29/09/2021 12:58

Good to know that there is some weekend work with Dict8 as I thought it was only during the week. It really is a great system so easy to use but by the looks of what everyone says a recurring theme of they should increase the 8p per line! Fingers crossed for anything in the future.

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 13:15

@ShanJG: I think it should be 0.9/line (if not 0.95 ... that's probably pushing it too way out there though LOL) there has been no increase in rate for over 9 yrs I believe. I take a look every weekend [I don't sit here waiting though]! Just pop into the office every hr or so after 10 am (Sat & Sun). Good luck!!

flutterby18 · 29/09/2021 13:30

@danblack87

This

I don't know if I just imagine it BUT about three years ago or so the system was overhauled and since then the tasks seem a lot slower to type (perhaps that is just my imagination !!!) ... I think I am losing the plot some days. hahaha.

You are not losing the plot as I noticed the exact same thing Smile and thought it was me.

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 13:32

@fluuterby18: hahaha we think alike ... paranoia is a strange thing Wink!!

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 13:35

@flutterby18: I only said that because I noticed it the next day after it was overhauled and I even checked my speed and re-wind to check it had not been altered at that time LOL. Stranger things have happened ... like the last update all the Spell-checker/dictionary went awry ??

flutterby18 · 29/09/2021 13:42

@danblack87 - I noticed it and actually bought a new keyboard as the typing felt as if it was draggingggg if that makes sense Smile

So glad I'm not alone in my paranoia Smile

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 13:47

@flutterby18: My sentiments exactly and it still feels like it is dragging. My Scroll Lock was 'on' so I switched it 'off' ............. not made much difference though? You are not alone (well, perhaps it is just us two?!!)

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 13:52

@Flutterby18: I got a new keyboard (Lenova) about 7 months ago ... the 'dragginggggg' is still the same.

flutterby18 · 29/09/2021 14:00

@danblack87 - Still going on for me too actually. I use a Lenovo. Do you use a foot pedal as I do Smile

I'm so glad it's not just me [smile[

danblack87 · 29/09/2021 14:06

@Flutterby18: I use a Lenovo now but before that it was a Microsoft keyboard as it was at the time of the overhaul and it is still the same. I don't use a foot pedal. I am glad it is not just me too; perhaps someone on here could enlighten us (I am a technophobe but I do not understand it as everything was fine until the overhaul mentioned) /////???? Anyone

Cherryblossom114 · 29/09/2021 19:11

I too averaging £300-350/mth and thats with weekends. Weekends seems to be pretty busy lately and Its the deciphering of the dictation that slows you up as well and am bit slow anyway making sure all the t's are crossed and I's dotted 🤦‍♀️🙂

Gally123 · 29/09/2021 20:06

@Cherryblossom114 - that's the way to do it to start with; DICT8 pay per letter and do not worry about how quickly or otherwise you type it, they just want it mistake-free. If you make sure you format as they want it etc that will keep the checkers happy and in time they might offer you more specialties.

Cherryblossom114 · 30/09/2021 11:18

@Gally123 - Thank you very much for the advise you are reading my thoughts. 👍 Maybe proof reading as it cant be that difficut seen as we are the ones doing the hard work laying out the ground work 🙂

Gally123 · 30/09/2021 12:19

@danblack87 @flutterby18 - think I experienced the same sort of dragging/delay with my old laptop (I bought a new one in July). At first it used to be just when we had the long clinics and towards the end of the task I would get problems hence I never picked the really long clinics. However, my old laptop over the last year (despite my niece saying it was not that old and should not have problems etc, it was a Dell and I understand they use cheap insides hence they do not last as long as other laptops) developed lots of problems, including a return of this dragging problem even on short letters. To cut a long story short, towards the end I was doing updates on a more or less weekly basis and I discovered that it is possible to search for updates on a laptop in addition to the ones that are automatically notified. I did several "optional" updates including about half a dozen driver updates and this sorted the problem for me, but as I say, it was only temporary and I had to keep checking more or less every week as when the sensation recurred I would think a new "optional" update was due. I do not know if you have ever searched for "optional" and driver updates, but this might help your situation.

danblack87 · 30/09/2021 12:30

@Gally123: That is interesting - I have Dell laptop - maybe that is it. As a technophobe I am unsure about updates and stuff SO I will wait for my son-in-law to get back from holiday and then I will task him with the job!! Thanks for the tips Smile

Gally123 · 30/09/2021 12:37

@danblack87 - I remembered that odd situation where letters stopped at approximately the 1.06 minute and it was a real pain to be able to get to the end, and that started with updates and was solved with a subsequent update I think, also esp if for you it started after a system upgrade with DICT8 would lead to me think it a similar situation.

danblack87 · 30/09/2021 12:54

@Gally123: yes, the problem definitely started with the update prior to the last ... some days are better than others but still Dragggggging as @Flutterby18 said!!! As I don't get the real LONG tasks now I have no idea BUT I am guessing it would be a complete ball-ache!!

danblack87 · 01/10/2021 10:57

OMG it appears to be Cockwomble dictation morning for me ... I am rapidly losing the will to live. I think chopping and preparing the vegetables ready for the freezer is looking a much better use of my time Sad.

KAnthony · 02/10/2021 09:01

Hi all…..new to the thread and fairly new to dictate, I have just submitted my first months invoice and wondering how long Dict8 take to send the cheques out? Thank you 😊

KAnthony · 02/10/2021 09:19

Also, has anyone thought of setting up a Facebook group for all Dict8 typists to join and have as a community place?
