Hi all........

OP posts:
Gally123 · 28/08/2021 08:04

@danblack87 Oh yes, I see it now - I was on my old laptop yesterday and I wonder if that made a difference when I was looking it up. Website does not give a lot of information though and the "Helpful information" section says "to be completed" so must be in the process of setting up website or redesigning it.

danblack87 · 28/08/2021 08:12

@Gally123: yes, I looked ... there is not much information so I am thinking of e-mailing Jan with my background information as suggested and then possibly taking it from there?

Gally123 · 28/08/2021 08:19

@danblack87 - well as it does seem to be a genuine company, perhaps trying to expand if they are updating website etc (by the way my old laptop uses a different browser) so it might be worth contacting them. DICT8 does seem to be struggling at present - so much for their email last year about bouncing back, but I think their problems are all of their own making. I have Tpro so not sure if I will try them or not, do not want to spread myself too thin, but might if they have good quality dictation and the pay is okay. Depends if they expect typists to have their own software (like WeType insisted on).

danblack87 · 28/08/2021 08:21

@Gally123: I only work for Dict8 I like the easy use of the system. However, I will investigate a little with Transcriptum to get more details.

Gally123 · 28/08/2021 08:30

@danblack87 - TPro is just as easy to use. Good luck and let us know how you get on.

@janT67: Thank you. I have not called but I am certainly interested ... being a technophobe I would hesitate at having to buy in equipment required. I agree, I am self-employed and therefore freelance; hence, I can apply to anyone I wish to as have many people on here who work for other companies. I am just very interested - as you said in earlier msg variety is good ... sometimes just typing medical can just get so, so and I have experience in other areas. Don't get me wrong, I love the work that I do but maybe some variety would be GR8.

As mentioned previously I am hoping to change my broadband and upgrade to fibre. I have been looking around and the best price seems to be "Now" (which also includes free calls). I know BT has been mentioned here as being good, my sister also has BT, however they do not have any offers on at the moment that make them competitive. Other companies seem to be about £10 a month more than "Now" however just found a broadband review site where just about everyone has given "Now" one * only for poor service and lack of being connected etc. Obviously I do not want to be without internet or phone etc, so I just wondered if anyone had any experience of "Now." I believe they are owned by Sky. Thanks.

danblack87 · 30/08/2021 09:12

@Gally123: I have no experience with 'Now' I am with Virgin Media.

deewu · 30/08/2021 15:19

We would recommend BT every time or PlusNet who are part of BT. Sky and Virgin are less reliable. My partner owns an IT company and has lots of experience of other peoples broadband problems!

Gally123 · 30/08/2021 15:36

@deewu - Thanks, however I am already with PlusNet - they are not as good as they were - speeds now very slow, dropping out of connection regularly several times a day - or several times an hour sometimes. Also, now prices slowly creeping up and up and up. I have been thinking about changing for sometime now but recently it has got so bad.

danblack87 · 31/08/2021 14:40

Hi all: So, dictation today with Dict8 is rather hand-to mouth, fastest finger ... anyone else finding this in their specialties?

flutterby18 · 31/08/2021 17:23

@danblack87 - Yep, same here I'm afraid. Hopefully it picks up now the bank holiday is over.

paula035 · 31/08/2021 18:08

Hi hope everyone is well. I understand that we invoice DICT8 at the beginning of the month so this will be my first month. Could someone give me an example of their invoice so I know what to include? Also do you have to invoice each month or can you do it every few months? Thank you Smile

Gally123 · 31/08/2021 18:24

@paula035 - the DICT8 website and their booklet give the information they require for their invoices and the layout. You can send an invoice every few months if you want, however I prefer to claim money owed to me ASAP. DICT8 prefer invoices to be over £50, or at least they did.

paula035 · 31/08/2021 19:05

@Gally123 thank you Smile

ShanJG · 01/09/2021 10:11

Dict8 has been really poor the last few days. I have only been with dict8 for a couple of months now and even in those couple of months I don’t think they have a lot of work. Such ashame because it’s such a great and easy system to use so straight forward. Still waiting to hear back from T-pro after completing their test assessment so fingers crossed.

Gally123 · 01/09/2021 10:28

@ShanJG there is tons of work with Tpro - I am showing 1400+ letters today. You could always try the woman who left a post here last week about her company. I'm not sure what is happening with DICT8 - last year they said they would bounce back after COVID but it is not happening so far. They need to look elsewhere other than phoning their transcribers.

ShanJG · 01/09/2021 10:33

Yeah that sounds great I’m waiting to hear back from them. How do you find T-pro? Is their system just as easy to use as Dict8, good dictation? I couldn’t see the rate they pay?

I emailed Jan about her company but they do a mix of everything and I really just want to stick to medical typing at the moment and what I know! Smile

Poppy379 · 01/09/2021 11:23

@Gally123 @ShanJG I've sent my details to T-Pro twice in the 12 months and have never heard a single word of acknowledgement from them, so I'm feeling very dejected now! I didn't think I was that dismal a candidate.....

ShanJG · 01/09/2021 11:27

I kept following them up. I messaged Laura on the help chat on T-Pro’s website and they passed it on to her. She did say she’s extremely busy with a lot of applicants but I did a bit of pestering to speed things up lol. I have just did the assessment last week and she said she would get back to me this week so if she doesn’t I’ll pop her over another email.

Gally123 · 01/09/2021 11:31

@Poppy379 - did you follow up your application? I emailed them about a week later to ensure that they had received it and then when the application process stalled due to COVID I emailed again to ensure I was not overlooked and to indicate I was still interested. I think they get a lot of applications and it seems the woman who processes them has a lot of holiday (she was either just about to go on holiday or had just come back when I was doing all the typing tests, chats etc). Glad I persisted, but I know it is a fine line between gentle nudging/enquiry and being a pest.

flutterby18 · 01/09/2021 11:44

@Poppy379 - I also applied twice in the last 12 months and not even an acknowledgement from them. I will not be chasing them up - it's their loss.

Gally123 · 01/09/2021 12:06

@Poppy379, @flutterby18 - I kept on it as DICT8 was going through a period where the work was tailing off - and this was pre-lockdown. I had more than 5 specialties but still no work and I did not work with any other company such as Accuro. I was beginning to get concerned about being able to pay the bills. I am still not sure about the future of DICT8, they seem to be struggling but working for a second company helps with peace of mind etc.
