Anyone else seen the news?? Another baby on the way, relationship on the rocks, or good old fashioned age gap love?

@yellowspanner

The bitchiness on here is ridiculous. He gets married on a Saturday afternoon and people say he should not have been allowed time off. There are lots of marriages with big age gaps. What is the problem with it?
It's awful isn't it. She looked lovely, they managed to keep it quiet now that blabbermouth Cumming's not around. Good for them.

'However, I guess since the rules are in place and need to be followed by many ordinary members of the Catholic faith there is bound to be annoyance if he has been given special treatment.'

Do we know that is what happened? Are we certain it wasn't a blessing after a registrar just did the legal bit?

In what way has he had special treatment?

@JaniieJones

Quite fascinated by all the handwringing on here about the rules of the Catholic Church.
Why? If you actively choose to marry (or what ever) inside an institution (whatever that may be) you are, in effect, agreeing to abide by those rules. Or else, go somewhere else.

What is fascinating for me is how he can align with his Catholicism so he can get wed even though it's illegal for PM to be RC

I didn’t know that. If it is, it’s just another example of him doing exactly as he likes because he’s above the law. I’m so, so looking forward to him getting his comeuppance.

jincanpoops · 30/05/2021 13:21

@paradyning what do you mean it's illegal for the PM to be RC?

yellowspanner · 30/05/2021 13:24

It is not illegal for the PM to be Catholic. Boris was baptised as a Catholicas a baby.

yellowspanner · 30/05/2021 13:28

Because Boris was baptised a Catholic as a baby he will always be a Catholic. His previous 2 marriages were not in Catholic Churches so do not count. As far as Catholic doctrine is concerned he was not married. Hence this marriage in their local Catholic Church.
They had a private ceremony. What is wrong with people. Let them enjoy their weekend.

That’s exactly what I originally suggested upthread.

The papers haven’t suggested that and so I was trying to find an explanation as to why why people on here might be irritated by it all.

See link upthread. You can't be a RC and be PM.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 30/05/2021 13:34

Jeremy corbyn has been married three times as well. It's obvious that politics and power must very intoxicating to some.

"But CORBYN...."

Sweetslumber · 30/05/2021 13:35

In what way has he had special treatment?

That’s the thing Lemon. We don’t know if he has or if he hasn’t.

Sweetslumber · 30/05/2021 13:36

"But CORBYN...."

Haha!! Missed that! WTF has he got to do with it?!

paradyning · 30/05/2021 13:37

@yellowspanner

It is not illegal for the PM to be Catholic. Boris was baptised as a Catholicas a baby.
Someone posted this link earlier.

www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Geo4/10/7/contents

It's discriminatory beyond belief. Unless it has been repealed (which I don't think it has) you can't be PM and be RC.

Trickleg · 30/05/2021 13:37

You can be Catholic and the PM. You can’t be Catholic and the Head of State (eg the monarch). At one point both the leader of the opposition and the head of the Liberal Democrat’s (Iain Duncan Smith and Charles Kennedy) were Catholics, too.

Nicolastuffedone · 30/05/2021 13:38

Marina was his mistress before she married him. Thought Carrie looked gorgeous!

Sarahlou63 · 30/05/2021 13:42

@midsomermurderess

She wore a very pretty dress though, you can't deny that.
I can - it looks like someone's stitched together my grandmother old antimacassars...
Peregrina · 30/05/2021 13:45

Non Catholics can get married in Catholic Churches, so since he was confirmed in the Anglican Church he probably counts as an Anglican - even though he probably only sees the inside of a Church on special occasions if that.

Carrie is presumably the Catholic, but it seems to be a bit of a pic n' mix version that she practices, But still for people denied a Church remarriage because they were divorced, it probably does stick in the craw.

itsgettingwierd · 30/05/2021 13:48

@thecatfromjapan

Why's it scraping the barrel?

It is just a statement of the absolutely obvious.

It will have taken time to organise.

And that was one of Cummings' comments: time and effort that should have gone into a relentless focus on dealing with the pandemic response was consistently diverted to other areas - demonstrative of a fundamental lack of seriousness.

According to one report it's been 6 months of planning.
the80sweregreat · 30/05/2021 13:49

I was just making the point that Jeremy Corbyn had also been married three times! ( about the only thing they have in common)
It's clearly not that unusual and a lot political figures do have interesting private lives ( not just in the UK of course)
I know plenty of people who are on second marriages but not three though!

Peregrina · 30/05/2021 13:51

I do know someone who has been widowed three times - which seems a tad unfortunate.

Serpenta · 30/05/2021 13:53

unfortunate and suspicious

iGetPipAndWork · 30/05/2021 13:58

It makes a mockery of the Catholic Church in my opinion. Completely hypocritical to allow them to marry there, but wait they're famous so the rules don't apply!
