Smokeybacon72 · 17/06/2021 22:43

Can't remember title of song or band but was cracking song about driving up the M6 going home think was sung in a talkie style

longtompot · 17/06/2021 22:47

Some really good ones mentioned on here which I've not heard for years! I will be adding them to my Deezer playlist Smile
My contribution is Martika - Sinead O'Connor

longtompot · 17/06/2021 22:48

Mandinka not Martika! Argh! I was thinking of the artist mentioned.

tothesea · 17/06/2021 22:58

Ha I came on to say StephenTinTin Duffy Kiss Me With Your Mouth. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it on the radio since the 80’s. Lots of my favourites mentioned already Depeche Mode, Gary Numan, Japan, Lloyd Cole.. all with many albums worth of brilliant songs but no just the same couple ever played.

Keepyourdistance000 · 17/06/2021 23:28

Live Together - Lisa Stansfield (actually quite a lot of her stuff)

Where Has All The Love Gone - Yazz

Shining/The Years Roll By - Kristian Leontiou

Driving away from home - it’s Immaterial

?

JingsMahBucket · 18/06/2021 00:05

@AlecTrevelyan006

I love you always forever - Donna Lewis No more I love you's - Annie Lennox Sara - Fleetwood Mac
Weirdly enough I’ve had No More I Love Yous stuck in my head for the past week. Completely unrelated to anything I’ve heard at all. Thankfully I don’t mind the song at all.
WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 18/06/2021 00:08

ooh what song was hot dog jumping frog albuquerque or something like that? it's bugged me for years!

We always sing 'Albert Perkins', which I assume is the frog's name Grin

Radio 2 play Break My Stride and Let The River Run quite often.

Status Quo - Burning Bridges. You can deny it all you like, but you do NOT stay silent and motionless whenever you do hear it!

Catatonia don't seem to get very much airplay at all on Radio 2 - even more surprising considering Cerys works there and could presumably 'redact' the playlists.

Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon (solo), Traveling Wilburys (maybe the members weren't considered famous enough!).

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 18/06/2021 00:34

Holly Johnson - Americanos
Holly Johnson - Love Train
Cameo - Word Up
Erasure - A little respect (anything by Erasure actually, just brilliant)
Communards - Don’t leave me this way
The Blow Monkeys - Digging your scene
Terence Trent Darby- Dance little sister
Depeche Mode - Just can’t get enough

stayathomer · 18/06/2021 00:38

Especially for you-kylie and Jason
Bananorama-love in the first degree
Mariah Carey-fantasy

JoveWhenHeSawMyFannysFace · 18/06/2021 00:46

Ain’t That Just The Way - Lutricia McNeal
Sit Down - James (I may be listening to the wrong radio stations, but haven’t heard that for years)
I Am Blessed - Eternal

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 18/06/2021 00:46

I played this record to death as a kid, never hear it now but it was way ahead of its time -Supernature by Cerrone

Blankspace101 · 18/06/2021 01:05

So many forgotten tunes.

Gingersay · 18/06/2021 01:35

I've heard a lot of these songs on Clyde 2 recently especially a lot of the 80s ones

Nat6999 · 18/06/2021 02:29

The lazy song Bruno Mars
Amazed by Lonestar

elp30 · 18/06/2021 02:53

Chris Rea Driving home for Christmas? Though that’s the M25.
ElGuardiandenoche · 18/06/2021 03:07

Apologies that’d be the Road to Hell 🙄

ElGuardiandenoche · 18/06/2021 03:17

Shakespeare’s Sister, Stay. I remember going to see them live and they were fabulous.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 18/06/2021 03:48

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll End of the line and Handle me with care. Blimey, George Harrison, Roy Orbison, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Jeff Lynne not famous enough ….

groovergirl · 18/06/2021 04:50

And another one --

by T'Pau. Love the song and love what Carol Decker is wearing in the video. Classic pop-girl chic, glamorous yet practical. I actually want to wear this outfit right now!
groovergirl · 18/06/2021 04:58

Sorry folks. See this video for a better view of as the essence of 1988!

piratehooker · 18/06/2021 06:49

Woah, some brilliant songs on here. Thank you to whoever said the following; I've passed a fun evening rewatching some great old pop (on TOTP wherever I could!)

Independent Love Song by Scarlet

Hazard by Richard Marx - Love this song, but somehow always get the slightest uneasy, or maybe eerie feeling from it. Definitely the video adds to that, but I remember that feeling even hearing it as a child before I watched the video.

Crazy For You by Let Loose

Mary's Prayer by Danny Wilson - Love this, hadn't heard it for about 15 years, and then it popped up once on Radio 2 recently... now I swear I hear it on the local stations regularly. Funny how that happens.

Chains by Tina Arena

A Different Corner, Father Figure and One More Try by George Michael - Always felt his slow/ballad/love songs were better than his more upbeat stuff, but I hear them a lot less

I Love Your Smile by Shanice - They do play this semi-regularly on my local station, but it was when the DJ said the other day that this song came out 30 years ago now... made me feel so old!

Red Light Spells Danger by Billy Ocean - Great song, but they always seem to only play When The Going Gets Tough by him, which I'm not the biggest fan of... I think Boyzone ruined it for me!

Beautiful Ones by Suede

Old school Eternal!

I didn't realise how many Style Council songs I really liked until this thread

Life In a Northern Town by Dream Academy

Let the River Run by Carly Simon - Seem to be having trouble finding the radio version/her version on Spotify though, sadly

SapatSea · 18/06/2021 09:25

Night and Day - Al. B. Sure
Songs by East 17 (apart from Stay another day which gets lots of Xmas airplay) they were huge in their day.
Luther Vandross

There is such a huge wealth of stuff yet it seems to be the same ole stuff that gets played
