'One project a day' thread

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

Today I've:
Cut front garden hedges
Mowed front garden lawn
Done the big monthly online shop

Going to try to submit a meter reading before the end of the day too.

BUT!! Also had an offer accepted on a house we want to buy and now need to sell ours asap, so I have just created a whole lot of work for myself to say the least!! Everything I do from here on our will be decluttering/tidying!!

I rang and sorted out an issue with a bill. Also filled in the form to purchase DS’s nursery pictures. Completely wasted trip to the garden centre though as they didn’t have any of the 3 items I went for.

I've blitzed the living room including dusting the blinds and cleaning the windows which is my least favourite job. Just waiting for the sofa covers to finish drying and then DH can put them back on while I supervise with a glass of wine.

The never ending wardrobe is finished! Thank the lord. Tomorrow's job is cleaning up the resulting chaos!

Well done! 👏🏻

I've collected a parcel and donated another three things.

My plug plants arrived and some are mini tomatoes so I've planted them in pots in the kitchen. Will do some more tomorrow and put the rest in water till the weekend.

I didn't get anything extra done today. So I've just made myself get out of bed and sort out a single drawer in the bathroom. Took less than a minute, but it really helps to keep chipping away with small tasks.

I like picturing everyone ticking off things on their to do list!

Today I'm half way through one job, I'll get it done before the day is out. I'm also going to clear some dead leaves from the back.

@Devlesko, whenever I need a bit of a kick in the butt inspiration I go on YouTube and watch an episode or two of 'How Clean is Your House?'

(Or a hoarder video, though they tend to be very sad and much longer than Kim and Aggie, and sometimes have the effect of ungalvanizing you because you think your house is so much better than those overflowing with rubbish).

The trick is to only watch a max of two Kim & Aggie videos or you get sucked in for hours.

@BlueLobelia, glad you got away with your fishy shenanigans.

I put together several bags of YA paperback fiction to donate to the charity shop - they're open where I am. Then I brought them to the shop and put them in the big blue bin. Also got rid of several clothing and footwear items, and some kitchen things I never used. I forgot to bring the exercise ball Blush. The closet where the paperbacks were is now reorganised, with a small bookcase holding the remaining children's and YA books, and the winter boots and coats also finding a home there.

Also did laundry, folded and put away. I have the winter blanket laundry to do this weekend as well as a big towel wash.

I remembered to order a B-day gift for a DD whose birthday is in just under two weeks, which reminded me that another DD has a B-day even sooner - end of the week in fact - so I ordered her something too. In a rash moment a while back I promised her a cake, which I will have to make on Thursday as I'll be able to leave work a little early that day. It may well end up being a gussied up cake mix but week nights are not great for birthdays, and tbh what I have in mind will be nice.

Loving the updates. I've done exactly the same thing a couple of times shiny Sometimes my daily project is a really tiny thing but they all really add up.
I had a busy day yesterday and didn't make it into the garden. I did manage to get some crap off one wardrobe floor though, and it means today I have somewhere to put something I do need to keep, which has been cluttering the bedroom floor for so long I'd started to see it as furniture.

Fnib · 12/05/2021 06:13

Note to self: order covid test kits today.

BlueLobelia · 12/05/2021 06:37

Morning all!

Gussied up cakes are what I do. :)

I did not do my holiday research in the end. But I did clean out my car.

Today I need to buy some more pots for my tomato seedlings that suddenly took off after I almost gave up on them.

@mathanxiety

That sounds like a good idea, my house can't be as bad as those on there. Grin

Today I have started a schedule and colour coordinated the different categories.
Also, made a hair appointment, got in tomorrow.
Lord help the poor person who has to cut it, as it is now down to my waist, very curly, and severeley matted, must try to do something with it tonight.
