'One project a day' thread

BlueLobelia · 18/04/2021 12:51

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

Could you do say 1 side, @shinyHatstand? Or half an hour perhaps. I get so much more done in tiny bites, I have discovered.

ShinyHatStand · 09/05/2021 14:52

Nah. Once I start I'll be fine and get it all done. It's just getting off the blimmin sofa. Soon...

Givemecoffeeplease · 09/05/2021 16:29

I epilated my legs today! Not a household thing but felt like I should prep for some sunnier days. About to get up and fold the laundry. That’s about all I’m good for today.

BlueLobelia · 09/05/2021 16:40

I did my fish swap with the neighbours.

I bought netting for my strawberries and canes for my sweetpeas.

Now I am about to cook a roast chicken dinner. I also washed and ironed the week's worth of school shirts.

I did some gardening today which was good. Planted out a load of plug plants. I didn’t do much else but I did supervise the children while DH did some sawing.

mamakoukla · 09/05/2021 18:48

I did plant the seeds! And some more I had to hand! And the 5 minutes of putting stuff away and retidying things back to their places in the utility room is also done.

I have been procrastinating by drooling over pictures of encaustic tiles. Just adore the patterns and would love them on the bathroom floor. Look clean and fresh to me. Alas, no but nice to daydream for a bit.

Oh, just to share, because it made my heart melt and was also a big step.

My DS1 is 12 and has a range of issues and learning difficulties. I never leave him alone, or DS 2 who is aged 10. But I just scooped up some fish and went next door very quickly. Thinking the Dcs (who were watching Harry Potter the Goblet of Fire would never notice).

I was in the middle of tipping the fish into neighbour's pond (and collecting a bottle of wine as a trade off) when DS1 hissed through the hedge separating our teeny mid-terrace gardens; 'Mummy, what are you doing?'.

I said I was just sorting out some fish and would be back soon.

Ds replied; 'Okay. Love you' and wandered happily back to his brother.

Feels like a big thing. :) It was literally the first time I left the building without him.

@Chunkymonkey123 you are leaving me in suspense... what was your Dh sawing?

That's so sweet @BlueLobelia

Devlesko · 09/05/2021 18:57

I finally finished the cooker, and have vowed never to let it get in that state again.
This thread is helping me get on top of things, have been just functioning for so long.

Tomorrow is carpet cleaning if it fits in with dh treatment and I'm up early enough, or cleaning windows and front room if not.

Can anyone recommend a good time management person, one for effeciency and effectiveness.

ShinyHatStand · 09/05/2021 18:58

4 hours later....

The shed is now green 😀

grumpypug · 09/05/2021 18:59

Hanging baskets planted and 1 small corner of the playroom sorted. 2 large items given away on Facebook and 1 large bin liner of 'stuff' binned. It's been a productive weekend. If it's nice weather tomorrow, I want to do a bit of weeding. If it's raining, I want to sort a small bedroom cupboard.

Hurrah!

Photos welcome. (Am planning to post some of mine this week, but empty laundry baskets are a very great deal less interesting than sheds!)

I've got carried away sorting out my larder (am fortunate in having a big, cool, full one) All the stuff is out and covering every surface in my not very big kitchen.

Fnib · 09/05/2021 19:02

@Devlesco I'm sorry things are tough at the moment Flowers
Flylady is the system that saved my sanity.

Devlesko · 09/05/2021 19:04

@BlueLobelia

I'm filling up, that is so beautiful. Moments like this are a treasure I don't care what anyone says Thanks

We couldn't go out today, too wet and windy, but we had surprise visit from ds1 and grand children, so some stuff had to wait.

The eldest is two and put the toys away, and has bonded so well with her sister whose 8 months now.

Aw, thank you.
Just had an awful year, none of it to do with covid, either.
I tried fly lady, but ended up procrastinating too much.
It's more of a short series of lectures from some influencial business person, I think.
On a personal level though, I still get dressed to shoes, and shine my sink. It does work.

mogloveseggs · 09/05/2021 19:18

Cleaned the grout in the bathroom.
Tomorrow's is write to the bank to close an unused savings account and a joint account.

ShinyHatStand · 09/05/2021 19:27

No photos until I've replaced the windows that are currently broken and now covered in green paint Smile

ShinyHatStand · 09/05/2021 19:35

@BlueLobelia that's lovely. Thanks for sharing.

Chunkymonkey123 · 09/05/2021 21:18

@BlueLobelia that’s really beautiful!
My DH was sawing sleepers to make another raised bed. We are 80% through a major garden renovation that we’ve been doing for a year now in between working and looking after our two preschoolers.

This evening I completed my 2019 photo book!! Such an achievement that’s been on my to do list for over a year. I also dyed my eyebrows.

Catname · 09/05/2021 21:30

I didn't do any jobs yesterday but today I've planted another 11 plants including a tree I bought 5 years ago which I'm hoping likes its new spot.

2020nymph · 09/05/2021 23:03

Aww, that's lovely @BlueLobelia

2020nymph · 09/05/2021 23:11

Inspired by a previous poster, I have emptied a seldom used cupboard of out of date food and DS1 has practiced his first aid using the sterile gauze pads which apparently expired in 2017. I didn't even think of them having an expiration date!

Also did some more gardening.

LlamaGiles · 10/05/2021 00:15

Wrapped a birthday present for my dsis today and that was it!

Divineswirls · 10/05/2021 00:53

That's so sweet @BlueLobelia and you know what, they say lovely things like that because they're surrounded by loveliness
