He died this morning

I think so,e people really do struggle with the concept of 'time and place.'

A thread about someone's death on the day they die is neither the time nor the place for unpleasant comments.

Maybe we need to return to the idea that if you can't say anything nice, say nothing at all for a while.

TempsPerdu · 09/04/2021 12:44

I’d prefer it to be accurate. I can’t stand history being rewritten. Someone dying doesn’t change who they were in life

Exactly. Why should The Crown be kind if he wasn’t?

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 09/04/2021 12:44

So sad, poor Queenie Sad

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 09/04/2021 12:45

So saddened by this. Been a rough month for the RF Sad

RIP HRH Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh

God rest his soul. I really feel for the Queen. After a 70 odd year marriage it must be like losing your arm.

WeekendCEO · 09/04/2021 12:46

Quite. And I will say again, Philip himself would have done well to take this advice at times.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 09/04/2021 12:47

Iwas satirising what I expected on this thread which is subtle digs at H and M. Which I can already see two (at least) cases of. I just chose to be outlandish about it to make a point.

Just keep digging at it then FFS.

Or you could limit your comments to polite condolences more appropriate to the situation.

ineedaholidaynow · 09/04/2021 12:47

The Crown isn't a documentary

oakleaffy · 09/04/2021 12:47

Duke of Edinburgh was lucky enough to die at Home.

It is the wish of many to do just that. Hopefully Duke of Edinburgh would have had his Family around him, or at least his Wife.

The saddest thing about Covid was the banishment of family members from the last moments of their loved one , while in hospital.

RickiTarr · 09/04/2021 12:47

Once was more than enough @WeekendCEO

What kind of person tries to derail a condolence thread?

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 09/04/2021 12:48

Here here @Abraxan

I also don't think it's appropriate to speculate on what Harry will or won't do. I'm sure he's devastated to have lost his grandfather especially when he's away from family right now. Most families come together in the event of deaths of loved ones and put grievances behind them for a while. Can't imagine the Royals are any different

Mummylin · 09/04/2021 12:48

R.I.P. Prince Philip. How very sad for the royal family. Poor Queen to lose her right hand man.

MNWorldisCrazy · 09/04/2021 12:49

@BJHair

I’m waiting for the press to say it’s MM fault
This!!
OrangeBlossomsinthesun · 09/04/2021 12:50

How is it unpleasant to say that I don't agree that you can call someone who has made a number of racist comments (all in public and widely reported on) a "legend".
Whatever. May he rest in peace.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 09/04/2021 12:50

Can I also remind people that there's a Royal Family topic on MN. If you want to start a thread about your views on Prince Philip as a man, start one there. This is a condolence thread, he was a beloved public figure and many of us want to use this to Mark our respect and sadness.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/04/2021 12:50

I'm sad for the Queen. Losing your husband of over 70 years will be heartbreaking.

I've surprised myself by my reaction to this news, actually. I didn't expect to be upset, but it's upset for the Queen, as his death wasn't a surprise.

I've reported @OrangeBlossomsinthesun's post. Simply not appropriate on this thread.

And, @TempsPerdu, it's about time and place. Judgment in relation to this is lacking.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 09/04/2021 12:50

@ineedaholidaynow

The Crown isn't a documentary
but people believe it is
CovidCorvid · 09/04/2021 12:51

No state funeral I guess.

DianaT1969 · 09/04/2021 12:51

What's the betting that the Daily Hate will have an article up speculating if Harry will return for the funeral and if MM will 'snub' the family by not attending?
It's probably already there....

excelledyourself · 09/04/2021 12:51

I feel so sad for the Queen. She barely knows a life without him Sad

TSSDNCOP · 09/04/2021 12:52

Seriously @OrangeBlossomsinthesun do bore off and start your own thread. So fucking tedious.

TempsPerdu · 09/04/2021 12:52

The Crown isn't a documentary

But many people will take it as such.

Exactly this.
HeronLanyon · 09/04/2021 12:53

Not a royalist but rip. Very sad for HMQE2. This will hit her hard. Oh god just wondered if Prince Harry will attend the funeral - what a mess.
