We’re sticking with tradition so serving fish. Cod with a bacon crumb cooked on tomatoes, peppers onion and capers with herby cous cous and garlic tenderstem broccoli. Minimal input required for tasty result!

We had a fish & chip lunch.

Okbussitout · 02/04/2021 14:35

Baked stuff from a local bakery for breakfast.

Just had leftover curry for lunch.

Then will probably make some Chinese food for dinner.

Plus will definitely have chocolate

Bearnecessity · 02/04/2021 14:52

Salmon, herby couscous, cauli/broccoli cheese

Sweet chilli chicken, spicy rice & Salad for adults. Chicken nuggets, veggie rice and salad for the kids

Mintjulia · 02/04/2021 15:00

Friday is pizza night in our house. DS would take a dim view of anything else and I don't want to cook savoury stuff, I'm making a lemon drizzle cake instead. Smile

But I've got a ham and a half shoulder of lamb for the rest of the weekend. Roasties & mint sauce for the lamb. Apples & maple syrup with the ham. Plenty of each left for sandwiches next week.

Pascha · 02/04/2021 15:03

Steak for dh and me, spinach and ricotta chicken for the children. All with homemade chips and whatever veg is about.

Tbh it sounds extravagant but its actually what I pulled out of the freezer yesterday, trying to empty it a bit.

Pascha · 02/04/2021 15:04

Is good Friday special dinner an actual thing then? I never knew that.

jellybeanteaparty · 02/04/2021 15:06

This sounds so pretentious but DH went trout fishing yesterday and he finally used the fish smoker thing I bought him many years ago.Had with soughdough bread and salad - can confirm very tasty

Therealjudgejudy · 02/04/2021 15:09

Pan fried cod, new potatoes, mixed veg and parsley sauce

We have always had fish on Good Friday since I was a child in the 70s, and it’s something my mum had always done too. We’re not Christians, just always had fish on Good Friday. Mind you, it was usually boil in the bag fish in parsley sauce.
Ostryga · 02/04/2021 15:10

We’ve just had fondue for lunch, Chinese takeout tonight.

fairydustandpixies · 02/04/2021 15:17

@thenonsensespotter Me too!!

vampirethriller · 02/04/2021 15:17

Courgette fritters, baked beans, hot cross Chelsea buns.

blowinahoolie · 02/04/2021 15:19

Stew, tatties and green beans.

MmeLaraque · 02/04/2021 15:24

A good bloody steak, with bordelaise sauce and herby potatoes.

We've just enjoyed a light mozarella/tomato salad lunch outside (we joked that lunch is at Spanish time today, because it's been a very busy morning.). Dinner this evening will probably be 8-9pm, so there will be a glass of wine each, too. That's already chilling. Smile

We're atheist, and although we'd usually eat fish 2-3 times a week because we enjoy it, husband couldn't find any this week. After we remembered the date, and realised why everyone else had bought all the fish, and after I explained (to husband) the history of the church's hoopla with fish, we decided to give that bollocks and have steak. Grin

Now, I'm going back outside to read some more in the sunshine, because I can.

Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence in many Christian denominations, so no meat. When I was younger we got no meat on any Friday. A friend belongs to an Orthodox church, they eat no animal products at all on Wednesdays and Fridays.

I'm having salmon and potato salad, kids are having cheese pizza.

Nah, not unless one is religious. In our case (atheist), husband is not working today, so we're enjoying the sunshine in our garden, after a very late lunch.

Supermarkets and marketing departments would prefer that everyone treat the four-day Easter weekend as a massive feast, because then, said shops can make a huge amount of money flogging lots of themed food and other paraphernalia, including shed loads of verra expensive chocolate. Wink

badlydrawnbear · 02/04/2021 15:37

We are having pizza because it is Friday. I would like fish but DC would not like to change from pizza Friday. For lunch we had homemade tomato soup, houmous and dip things, olive bread, sushi and fruit in our garden with my parents.

These explain a lot. I'm not religious at all, and my family never did anything different at Easter, we all had Sunday lunch as usual and a chocolate egg and that was that.
It also explains why Tesco wanted me to book a delivery slot early for this weekend - they were treating it like Christmas! (I declined, the shopping is coming on Wednesday as usual.

Pascha · 02/04/2021 15:39

)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/04/2021 15:39

Chicken fajitas. DP doesn’t eat fish, and we are not religious anyway. M&S tiramisu for pudding.

CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 02/04/2021 15:40

Herring was consumed for lunch. Very nice too.

Dailyhandtowelwash · 02/04/2021 15:40

We are not in the UK and can socialise so we are having guests tonight and on Sunday - we’re celebrating a bank holiday weekend. We’ll eat normally when we’re not entertaining though.

LucysSkyDiamonds · 02/04/2021 15:43

Tartyflette with smoked salmon and whatever veg hasn't yet withered. Can't wait.
