How do you Laundry?

No i'm not mad, i promise.

I do everyone's washing in turn, so all of DS's, then all of DD's, then all of Mine, then towels/bedding, and start again.

Do you do that, or do you do a mix and just split everyones into darks/colours/whites?

Socks and pants go in with other items of clothes of the same colour. I don't see any need to wash them at 60⁰C

Ifiwasadaisy · 14/03/2021 20:42

Some loads have 2 or 3 items! “

Seriously? For the sake of not putting two very similar colours together you run a machine that uses electricity, large quantities of purified drinking water and lots of processed chemicals twice as often as actually necessary (or even more)? If you’re that weird about mixing colours just buy fewer colours of clothes.

Socks and pants in with other clothes here - they’re just a bit sweaty, 30/40 is fine. I rarely wash anything over 40, haven’t died from dirty fabric poisoning yet.

Brokenrecord3006 · 14/03/2021 21:28

I do mine, DHs and DSs all separately but I never split by colour. Darks and lights all go in together and it's never been an issue.

DontFuckItUp · 14/03/2021 21:36

Colours, blacks, lights and whites all together on a 30 degree wash
Bedding and towels on a higher wash but all together
Washing peoples clothes and stuff separately is weird

ShaunaTheSheep · 14/03/2021 21:43

I couldn’t give laundry this much head space!

I do mine, and the bathroom towels. DH does his, and our bed linen. The teens do their own, including bed linen. Tea towels get thrown in the next wash.

happytoday73 · 14/03/2021 21:51

Everything in together.. All on a basic 40c wash....limited washing liquid, no fabric softener...
Washing basket upstairs is emptied each morning directly into washing machine.. If its full enough I turn it on before I leave for work.
Only time different is bedding do seperately and sometimes towels or sports kits

PuppyMonkey · 14/03/2021 21:56

Two Laundry baskets (white and colours) are in the bathroom. In a cupboard hidden under a work surface, so everyone puts their dirty stuff in themselves each day.

One wash per day, ish - it’s mostly colourful stuff. One or two darks per week.

Sunday is usually all the whites that have built up during the week..

Towels and bedding go in separately, once a week ish.

Twillow · 14/03/2021 22:08

Laundry basket in each bedroom (can't stand the idea of visitors poking about in your dirty laundry if it was in the bathroom!) Have a quick sort though and take what I need then stuff the rest back in.
Sets of bedding done together (always straight after changing the bed so the basket doesn't get stuffed) with maybe an extra towel to make up the load.
Darks, lights/whites, woollens, towels and tea towels all done in sets. Adult child at home does her own.

RizzleRazzle · 14/03/2021 22:18

I go to the laundrette and bung all the clothes in the machine at once with a colour catcher sheet. Bedding and towels done separately.

mathanxiety · 14/03/2021 22:38

Does nobody do pants and socks together.

They all go in the hot dryer.

lockdownrainbow · 14/03/2021 22:39

Put in everything together except for white school shirts

PurpleSproutingSomething · 14/03/2021 22:50

Whites
Darks
Colours brights and pales
Towels
Tea Towels
Socks and pants
Bedding

CinnamonStar · 14/03/2021 22:50

Separating by person is surely a very unusual idea.

I separate by colour - whites; reds, oranges, pinks and purples; blues and greens; navy, black and dark grey; yellow. Bedding, towels and tea towels go in with the corresponding colour.

Every Saturday I do a white and a black/navy (school uniform) and one other colours. School uniform gets done first so it is definitely ready for Monday morning.

On Sunday I do two more, and that's it for the week.

Embroideredstars · 14/03/2021 23:08

Whole household separated to white, black, colours, boil wash for kitchen cloths and tea towels

DuesToTheDirt · 15/03/2021 08:55

You must have some weirdo visitors.

Or she does it herself in other people's houses
ememem84 · 15/03/2021 09:02

our laundry basket is in the garage where the machine is. we have a bag which lives in the bathroom and the theory is that all dirty laundry goes in that of an evening.

today i'm washing towels, and the dcs bedding, and if i get through that will start on brights.

Passthecake30 · 15/03/2021 09:21

2 adults and 2 preteens, I do dark and light washes and mix everyone’s washing. The only thing that gets washed separately is dps work clothes (builder), and that’s the only wash I don’t personally do. I like washing tbh, particularly hanging it on the line.

wonkylegs · 15/03/2021 09:26

Whites / lights load once a week
One scrubs load (dr in the house)
A delicates / wool wash once every few weeks
Then everything else in together

Mummaofboys93 · 15/03/2021 09:26

@Passthecake30 Would you like to come hang mine?! Its the only part of doing a wash I detest.. Oh & putting away! 😂

DefinitelyOdd · 15/03/2021 10:46

I wash:
DDs clothes separately due to her age (nappy leaks) and sensitive skin.
DHs work clothes as they are rank and need a boil wash
My clothes and DHs non work clothes
Undies and towels
Bedding apart from DDs as hers goes in her normal wash.

Seeing it written down it looks a lot but it isn't. I do quite enjoy laundry and get a bit peeved when DH tries to help because he does it wrong. But the only time it matters is if he has washed DDs clothes with the wrong detergent.

SomeRandomerOnBumsnet · 15/03/2021 11:51

DH and I both do the washing as and when we can see it needs to be done. We have differing MOs:

ME

White wash (bedding, towels, etc) on 60
1 x load (machine setting) hand wash on c 15
2 x loads of coloured wash on 40
1 x load coloured bedding, etc 60
1 x load of towels on 60

DH
Lob everything on 60

Passthecake30 · 15/03/2021 20:56

@Mummaofboys93 yeah sure, if you do my ironing instead Grin

Rainydays200 · 16/03/2021 08:29

The only 60 cycles my Bosch machine has are nearly 3 hrs long. I just don’t think towels and bedding is dirty enough to warrant that length of wash (extra electric and tonnes of water). I just do them at 40.

FeistySheep · 16/03/2021 08:42

If you wash everything on 30 degrees, you don't need to separate colours. I am cautious with a brand new item, and always do a dark wash with the new item on its first wash just in case.
But so long as there's nothing new, nothing ever runs. I've been doing this for twenty years and nothing has ever run.
The 30 cycle is only 40mins long too - bonus! Much quicker and cheaper.

Things which have oil on them need washed at 40, and I do separate these into lights and darks.
