Inspired by a thread about bad singers. In your opinion, which singers have the best voices? I'll vote:

Michael Jackson
Stevie Wonder
James Morrison (underrated)
Christina Aguilera
Celion Dion
Mariah Carey
Whitney Houston
Joss Stone

James Mudriczki of little known Manchester band Puressence.
Stunning voice.

Adele - she was amazing live as expected

Aretha Franklin

Whitney Houston - the best voice to this day

Maria Carey

Freddie Mercury
George Michael
Prince
Whitney Houston
Adele

I remember once watching an X Factor final (I think) and Nicole Scherzinger sang with her mentoree (?). It was embarrassing how superior Nicole’s voice was to her ‘protege’ and demonstrated the difference between a ‘good’ voice and a ‘great’ voice.

Darren Hayes!

knackeredcat · 08/03/2021 12:37

Dave Gahan from Depeche Mode, particularly from mid 80s-1990. Before his well documented battle with drugs which definitely affected his voice for the worse.

MynahBird · 08/03/2021 12:38

Roy Orbison. Listen to 'She's A Mystery To Me' and try not to cry at the beauty of his voice.

TurquoiseDragon · 08/03/2021 12:46

Rob Halford of Judas Priest. 6 octave range at his finest, amazing sound.
James Hetfield, Metallica. Has a great voice, certainly in his younger days. His mum was opera trained, I think.

@FrankiesKnuckle

Hannah Reid from London Grammar.
DH introduced me to London Grammar last night. Hannah Reid has an amazing voice, her range is superb. I love her contralto.
JaneJeffer · 08/03/2021 13:48

Noel Gallagher has a beautiful singing voice.

Completely agree but thinking about it, Martin Gore is just as amazing. We saw them a couple of years ago and when he sang Somebody, you could hear a pin drop. Truly standout moment of any gig I've been to.
BitOfFun · 08/03/2021 18:16

Joni Mitchell
Fiona Apple
Mark Mulcahy

NoMackerelInSwindon · 08/03/2021 20:16

Bow Wow Wow can't she sing?

HazelBite · 08/03/2021 20:32

Best people that I have seen sing live
George Michael
Cilla Black (absolutely blown away by the power of her voice!)
Rag n Bone Man

OhWhyNot · 08/03/2021 21:07

Luther Vandross saw him live he voice was like silk so smooth and emotional made me cry

Whitney Houston was far more soulful live (not sure about her last tour was sad to see clips on you tube of her struggling to sing)

Tom Jones

Aretha Franklin (of course)

Frank Sinatra they way he phrased a song was just fantastic you need to listen to him live he changes the mood of the room with just a change of note in his voice

The Scottish guy on The Voice Craig Eddie what a voice (he sang Let It Rain)

Al Green

KD Lang her voice is so pure

Loushome · 08/03/2021 22:30

Has anyone mentioned Paloma Faith?

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 08/03/2021 22:31

I really dislike her singing!

Fridainexile · 09/03/2021 09:46

Did anyone see Mennel Ibtissem singing Hallelujah on her audition for ‘the voice’, France ?
Gorgeous tone to her voice, beautiful.

Loushome · 09/03/2021 10:04

@IstandwithJackieWeaver
It’s not about likes and dislikes Confused
I don’t like some names that have been said on here 🤷🏻‍♀️

MynahBird · 09/03/2021 10:29

Archie Roach is another with a voice that is instantly recognizable and incredibly emotional. He's not looking too well at the moment; I think he's on oxygen most of the time now but can still perform. That man's voice is an absolute gift, as is his story telling and his generous spirit. If you're not familiar with him, do yourself a favour and jump down the rabbit hole of exploring his work. Caution: it may make you cry.

FlyingByTheSeatof · 10/03/2021 13:53

Shirley Bassey

I came here to say kd Lang. I was watching her sing Hallelujah on YouTube earlier. We saw her touring the Ingenue album a couple of years ago and her voice is incredible.
MynahBird · 12/03/2021 21:59

Just watched some Netflix with my DS and was reminded of the incredible and truly gifted Israel Kamakawiwo'ole. Beautiful voice.

notacooldad · 12/03/2021 22:06

Ian Gillan had an incredible range, but seems mysteriously absent

That's me in hiding for the rest of my life
Don't hide
Gillian is in my top 5 G O A T dead or alive.
Bruce Dickinson may be not everyone's taste but has great pitch, enunciation and projection.( as well as showmanship)

sweetgenevincent1 · 13/03/2021 12:08

Another one to add

Eric burden. When you see the video of house of the rising sun it's amazing. Think he was about 22. Just standing there with this amazing voice

Starlive23 · 13/03/2021 12:14

Brandon Urie
Patrick Stump
Michael Stipe
Gwen Stefani
Eddie Vedder
