Just head that Prince Charles has been to visit him in hospital due to ‘exceptional circumstances’. He’s never visited him in hospital before and apparently left looking emotional. It doesn’t look good does it? I wonder how this will play out given the pandemic?

@SophieB100

Regardless of what hospitals do, and what registrars/consultants do - we are talking about an elderly man (very elderly) who will be getting the very best treatment available. He is being treated for, and has been treated for an ongoing infection. Infections can cause stress on the heart, and this man has been transferred to a hospital which specialises in heart treatment. He is in the best place he can be right now. I wish him well.
This.

The one-upmanship re who knows most about private vs NHS facilities on this thread is really tiresome.

Some pp clearly think they know everything about the varying facilities. How very marvellous for you. Please don't let a thread about a very unwell 99 year old get in the way of your ability to be the fonts of all knowledge.

Nith · 02/03/2021 00:17

He's clearly unwell enough to need to be in hospital. But that still covers a huge range of levels of seriousness, and does not necessarily mean he's moribund

I didn't say he was, @WinnieTheW0rm. The post that you took issue with simply said that he was seriously ill, which you now seem to agree with.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/03/2021 08:01

SirChing I agree, it’s very tiresome.

I dunno, sometimes the derail side convos are quite informative.

We've all said we wish him and well, there's not much else to say with regards to the main subject until a bit more news comes in after all.

We're just people nattering in a waiting room.

so ... Brew and Biscuit anyone? :)

Exactly! There has been no disrespect to PP. Sometimes threads evolve and go off on a tangent. It's a chat forum not a court of law. I still dispute a private hospital ICU is anything like an NHS ICU. More recovery room with 1 to 1 staff

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/03/2021 08:54

GetOff I agree and my consultant friends say the same.

@GetOffYourHighHorse I will only state what I know from personal experience. A close family member had a major operation in that hospital. (I saw them there.) The surgeon worked there, but also in a large NHS hospital with a private wing. He chose to do the op at the KE, obviously confident of the care it provided. We were assured that ICU facilities were there if needed and as others have said there are 3-4 ICU beds.

Obviously the situation of Prince P is very different and according to a dr on the news, at St Barts they have many sub-specialists for heart care, right down to specialists for each part of the heart. So they will all be in one place.

TheCatWithTheFluffyTail · 02/03/2021 09:30

I’m pretty sure we can all agree that regardless of whether Philip is in a private or NHS hospital, he will be getting fantastic care.

Laiste · 02/03/2021 10:16

Yes lets agree for gawd sake Grin

Laiste · 02/03/2021 10:18

The Harry Meghan interview release timing is unfortunate. Like them or not, now (re:PP) is not a good time to be airing grievances.

AlternativePerspective · 02/03/2021 10:19

Exactly! There has been no disrespect to PP. I think the fact this thread is full of deletions and has been closed at least once would say otherwise.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/03/2021 10:22

Really hope he's not to unwell. I think he's great.

Number3BigCupOfTea · 02/03/2021 10:24

A few years ago, we would have been discussing his comments to filipina nurses but obviously there does come an age when you're a ''holy grail''. Which Harry and Meghan now are as well, on mumsnet anyway. Their new titles are Holy Grails Harry and Meghan.
There was another thread about the oprah interview zapped on them yesterday and the discussion was just speculating how they'd come across. There was so much policing on the thread though, so it got zapped.

GetOff I agree and my consultant friends say the same.
Are these your same consultant friends who told you there was no major heart surgery done in private hospitals?🤔
DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/03/2021 10:40

Coronawireless I didn’t say that. Think you are confusing me with another poster.

Janegrey333 · 02/03/2021 10:57

I doubt if there is another poster with a similarly memorable name on this thread...

Janegrey333 · 02/03/2021 10:59

It’s so hilarious to read the work of such experts, and so early in the day, as well.

I got admitted to local hospital a couple of years ago. Had some symptoms and phoned GP to get an appointment, gave details to receptionist. Got a call back almost immediately telling me to go to A&E immediately. I didn't have what I think of as typical heart attack symptoms.

Got to A&E and was almost immediately given an ECG and taken through to a consultation area. As we were waiting for doctor a nurse arrived, introduced herself as the senior nurse on duty in the coronary unit and told me about the unit and that I would almost certainly be admitted to the unit. I remember laughing and saying I was fine. She was very calm and reassuring.

Dr arrived and confirmed I was being admitted. I was hooked up to a portable defibrillator, I asked what was happening and was told they didn't take chances and if I had a heart attack on the way to the ward I would be treated immediately as the defibrillator was connected.

I was in for 5 days, had a procedure and discharged. The care was fantastic. I'm no one special, this was a small hospital in rural Devon.

I wish him well and if my treatment on the NHS is anything to go by he will definitely be well looked after.

Was this directed at me?

I haven’t posted anything about cardiac surgery on this thread.

Sparklingbrook · 02/03/2021 13:12

Lol. There was no ‘policing’ it was just a horrible thread. Confused

Roussette · 02/03/2021 13:14

Yep. Vile. Glad to see the back of it.

SuperSimple · 02/03/2021 13:16

It always seems to be the same users that police the H&M threads....is it their full time job?

AlternativePerspective · 02/03/2021 13:21

The Harry Meghan interview release timing is unfortunate. Like them or not, now (re:PP) is not a good time to be airing grievances. That interview was long since recorded though. And it’s in the US. The Americans aren’t going to think timing in terms of when it’s aired. Nothing to do with Harry and Meghan.
