So what don't you have at home that others would find essential ?
I don't have a dishwasher or a tumble dryer. We also only have 1 tv in the family room.

Large house but no tumble dryer - my MIL can't understand how I manage, even offered to buy us one when the kids were babies, but just never found a need!

BarbaraofSeville · 16/02/2021 14:30

But if you've got a large house and no tumble dryer, doesn't that mean you've probably got space available to keep an airer up when you can't dry outside and not have to bother with a tumble dryer?

I know needs must with families who don't have space, but IME tumble dryers ruin clothes, make them more creased, cost money to run and are bad for environment, so while we have one, it's only used occasionally in winter, when the washing won't dry outside and the airer is taking too long.

Our house isn't large but isn't small either. We don't have a tumble dryer because the layout of the kitchen means there isn't space for it. We have a spin dryer that we keep in the space under the stairs when not in use; this means that clothes dry more quickly and release less water vapour in the air so helps reduce the risk of damp. We dry our clothes on the airer in our bedroom.

A tumble dryer
A second car

A car!

No downstairs toilet

No dishwasher

Have a tumble dryer but is broken and has been for months but not got around to fixing it as it never gets used

No chest freezer

No spare bedroom

No bathtub (just a shower room)

No slow cooker

No utility room

One (not smart) TV in living room which pc is also connected to so watch Netflix etc through the pc with TV as the monitor. No laptop pc though just dps big tower.

No bookcases (though this is categorically not through choice and is a great bone of contention. We do have what could be a bookcase but it is filled with music and dvds instead. Ds has one for his books in his room because I put my foot down and bought and assembled the damn thing myself)

No car

No alexa/smart speakers of any kind

No hair straighteners

No airing cupboard

There's probably more but that's off the top of my head. The only things I really want off the list though is a bookcase or two, a spare room so guests could sleep over and a downstairs toilet. I can't be doing with dishwashers they're more hassle than they're worth. I enjoy not having to clean a bath more than I miss having one, chest freezers seem to be where food goes to die, my phone is quite smart and spying on me enough as it is without a smart speaker and TV too, everything I need is within walking distance so have never needed a car and take a taxi or public transport if I can't walk. My hair is already pin straight (so I do own a number of hair curlers, none of which have done what was promised on the box). We have a tablet each so no need for a laptop (though hopefully that will change fairly soon as I'm hoping to be studying soon)

enough bedrooms three people two bedrooms, I sleep in the living room
enough beds for everyone.
dishwasher (that'd be me then)
tumbledryer
traded the husband in as he was definitely faulty
second bathroom
printer that works
no alexa type stuff.
a dining table that we all eat at. (sensory issues so eat separately)

do have kettle toaster microwave and a tv that is still in it's box as we have not got round to plugging it in yet. have a garage and a car, and access to a shared dog toilet garden

BlackeyedSusan · 18/02/2021 11:23

I have two freezers... and a washing machine.
