So what don't you have at home that others would find essential ?
I don't have a dishwasher or a tumble dryer. We also only have 1 tv in the family room.

Slow cooker, I don’t get the point of them.

rainbowcakes · 15/02/2021 21:34

I was genuinely starting to think i was the only person in the entire world who doesnt have a dishwasher or a tumble dryer!

Dont get me wrong, i am absolutely desperate for both (especially a dishwasher) but there is just no space in the kitchen. So unless we move house or get an extension (cant afford either) we will continue to wash dishes by hand Grin

rainbowcakes · 15/02/2021 21:36

Also no Alexa or downstairs toilet or en-suite!

passtheorange · 15/02/2021 21:38

Don't have the space for either a dishwasher or a tumble dryer. Would have both if we did.
Smart tv.
Food mixer.
Airing cupboard - we did have one but were persuaded to have a combi boiler some years ago and have regretted it ever since.

So glad to read through this thread! I joined mumsnet at its inception about 21 years ago I think, with a third child who was a resistant eater and needed advice. I rejoined when my first grandchild was born ten years ago to get up to date info about babies etc and learn how to be a good mother in law
I’ve been gobsmacked at some threads, I was feeling I was the only married person who managed to squeeze into a standard double bed, not change our towels every day, not have an en-suite, guest rooms, not have money instantly available to build an extension/ loft conversion etc.
I feel almost normal again now reading this thread!

Gilead · 15/02/2021 22:49

I e never had a deep fat fryer in any shape or form.

MinnieJackson · 15/02/2021 23:13

flappityflippers1 · 15/02/2021 23:19

Tumble dryer
Dishwasher
Downstairs loo
Only 1 tv in house
No dining room. Dining table in the conservatory that doubles as a playroom (this irritates the fucking shit out of me, I’d at least like it to fit in the damn kitchen, it’s not even a big table!)

Ginfordinner · 15/02/2021 23:19

How does it stay open, @gingordinner?

Our nearby laundrette has a wall of washers and a wall of dryers and it always busy. Even now, it's a drop and go service and everything looks to be constantly turning.

The one on the other side of town is a music venue by night :o

Lovelydiscusfish · 15/02/2021 23:56

A house! And the one we rent has only two bedrooms, a bathroom and a combined kitchen/living room thing downstairs. No garden. No tumble-dryer, no dishwasher (no room)! Have actually a very limited amount of stuff, and I kinda like it that way.

I had to ask my mom recently what was the minimum sensible amount of towels for a grown up person to have, so I could purchase said number from charity shops. I am in my 40s! (And a bit of a dirty hippy....)

Boyfriend informed me a couple of days ago that he has ordered us a printer. Kinda excited, but also feels a little bourgeoise to me...... Grin

CoffeeSonata · 16/02/2021 00:11

A TV. At all.
