What don't you own ?

So what don't you have at home that others would find essential ?
I don't have a dishwasher or a tumble dryer. We also only have 1 tv in the family room.

And no Netflix of my own (tho if I really wanted to watch it I am still somehow logged in on my work lap-top to my bastard ex’s Netflix - clinging on to that by the skin of my fingernails......)

Don’t own any integrity (see above)

We have Amazon Prime because my mom gave me her log-in (doesn’t use it on her TV) on the smart TV she immensely generously bought us.

What I DO have is a fucking awesome mother.......

Carouselfish · 16/02/2021 01:00

No tumble drier.
No central heating!

ilovepixie · 16/02/2021 01:29

Dishwasher
Tumble dryer
Garden
Hair straighteners
Hair dryer

DustyMaiden · 16/02/2021 01:34

I have everything apart from a job.

BasiliskStare · 16/02/2021 01:43

No garden ( in the sense of a lawn - never had one, just tiny tiny paved bit outside the kitchen ) , no utility room. We manage.Grin

Never lived in a detached house of my own and never worried , though from reading some threads on Mumsnet a terraced house is worse than - well a very worse thing. Grin

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 16/02/2021 01:45

This thread is making me realise how much shit I have that I don't use that I could sell!

BasiliskStare · 16/02/2021 01:49

@Lovelydiscusfish - there was a recent thread about printers - bet you won't feel so bourgeois once you have one Grin - it is a funny thread if you can find it but in the meantime

YukoandHiro · 16/02/2021 01:50

Garden... but that's why we'll be moving in the next couple of years

igotdemons · 16/02/2021 02:12

A dishwasher (there is room for one but need a new kitchen so will add when we decide to replace).

VR set/games console (had console in the past but now prefer PC and mobile gaming).

Laptop (prefer desktop PC or tablet).

Conservatory (back garden too small for one).

A bath (both bathrooms have showers, which doesn’t bother me as I hate having a bath and much prefer showering).

I do however have 3 spare bedrooms! Grin

Weirdfan · 16/02/2021 02:35

No shower, just a bath and haven't owned a microwave in about 15 years. The shower is an issue but I don't miss the microwave at all.

grassisjeweled · 16/02/2021 02:36

Cat/dog

Ginfordinner · 16/02/2021 06:40

A pet
Slow cooker - I just use my oven
Rice cooker - I just use a saucepan
Wheelbarrow
Small children
Sky TV
Snapchat
Parents

We must seem very materialistic to some posters, but I would be very bored without a TV during this pandemic.

A laptop screen just doesn't cut it for me. And I use our microwave a lot for reheating and defrosting stuff (I cook from scratch).

joystir59 · 16/02/2021 06:43

No dishwasher

AnExcellentWalker · 16/02/2021 07:07

Our own house, or a car
Garage (obviously)
Dishwasher, tumble dryer
Robovac - would love one though
Hairdryer, straighteners or curling irons etc
More than one TV
Spare bedroom, office or similar
Printer
Dog or any other pets - definitely plan to change this soon though

We do have a microwave, electric kettle & toaster now, after many years of not having them, as we didn't have a working oven or grill for several months last year.

spiralshell · 16/02/2021 07:17

Dishwasher
Tumble dryer
Second toilet
Alexa
Car
Spare room
More than one tv
WhatsApp, snapchat or instagram
Hair dryer
Hair straighteners

BiddyPop · 16/02/2021 07:40

We are privileged enough to have all those now. But we didn't have a downstairs bathroom for the first 7 years here, and also had to give up the 2nd hand dishwasher we'd been given when we moved here as it wouldn't fit and couldn't afford it slim fitting one that would fit for 4 years. We've had to manage without a tumble dryer too initially when we moved here as there was only enough space for 1 appliance and we'd couldn't afford to buy a combined washer/dryer for about 3 years. (We'd been given 2nd hand washing ,maching, dryer and dishwasher, and 3:piece suite, when we got our first house as it coincided with an older relative downsizing so we were extremely grateful - and we moved again about 3 years later to a slightly smaller but much more convenient house in many ways. But it needed a lot doing to it and was much more expensive as it was in a far better location. So luxuries waited until essential repairs and replace, ents were done - like rotten single glazed window replaced.

We've been in this house 18 years now and it's lovely. Although DH still occasionally talks about missing the en suite we had in the first place for privacy.

BiddyPop · 16/02/2021 07:42

Although we don't have a conservatory, hot tub or TVs in bedrooms.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 16/02/2021 07:42

A dishwasher.
A tablet.
An upstairs bathroom.

Lemonsyellow · 16/02/2021 07:45

No second loo.
No tumble drier.
No car.
No driveway.
No garage.
No hairdryer.
No laptop.
No Netflix/Sky etc

I do have:
A house
A garden
A dishwasher

Deathraystare · 16/02/2021 07:45

An alexa, personal washer and dryer (we have them communily), car, house, pets

@BarbaraofSevilleThe way people talk on here about needing multiple toilets and toilets on every floor is bizarre. Not so if you have a very active bladder like I do! If I was lucky enough to be buying a house, yes it would have a ground floor cloakroom as well as upstairs bathroom with poss separate loo. I am lucky at the moment in our 4 room flat to be the only left who has not moved out yet so being able to 'go' when I want is great!!!

Whatthebloodyell · 16/02/2021 07:52

Ah just read the first page of this thread and how refreshing! I always find it maddening on mumsnet how people say that you should never buy a house without a drive/garage/utility/downstairs loo/garden etc without any acknowledgement that that is a privileged position to take. It’s quite a relief to see a bit more normality on here.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/02/2021 08:13

A drive
Utility room
Alexa or any similar
Massive TV
TV in our bedroom
Sky or similar
Pets (used to though and miss them)
Food processor (ancient trusty Kenwood Chef instead)
Coffee machine, just a cafetière
Kitchen under 30 years old
Bathroom ditto

HairyToity · 16/02/2021 08:19

Hair straighteners
Food processor
Kitchen aid type thing
Pets
Second car (DH and I share)
Sky
Ensuite bathroom

HairyToity · 16/02/2021 08:22

Just seen some more I don't have:

Conservatory
Outdoor pizza oven
Any sort of deep fat fryer
Slow cooker
Outdoor play equipment for children (we go for walks or to the park)

When it comes to every cooking gadget under the sun I just don't have the room.

coastcitybus · 16/02/2021 08:34

No microwave, toaster or second loo. Don't have Alexa either. I could probably quite easily solve the microwave/toaster issue, but we have gone without for about six years now.
