Did you get anything for Valentines Day?

My DH ‘doesn’t believe’ in Valentine’s Day so we never exchange cards or presents. I should really stop trying to drop hints after 8 years Grin how about everyone else?

I don’t believe in it and my DH and I have never celebrated it in 12 years. That kind of prescribed romance makes me cringe. My DH treats me lovingly every day of the year, that’s what I expect not overpriced flowers and a soppy card on a specific day because he’s been told to.

aSofaNearYou · 14/02/2021 10:12

Well your thread just reminded me that it is Valentine's Day, so no 😂 Been together 5 years. I think people are very varied in how seriously they take VD.

Sirzy · 14/02/2021 10:13

Nope we don’t bother. I got some roses the first year but nothing since.

Well not now (widow). But I think my husband may have given me cards, but we both thought it was a ridiculous money making holiday, and seeing my 17 year old spend £15 on roses, £50 on jewelry amd even more on chocolate I have not changed my mind!

Mrbob · 14/02/2021 10:15

A shag and lunch. Perfect

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/02/2021 10:16

Sex toys. As usual. Perfect.

TroysMammy · 14/02/2021 10:16

No because we don't want to join in with the hype but we are having pheasant for dinner.

Peanutbutterblood · 14/02/2021 10:17

A homemade card from dh and my dds. That's all I want. I love romance but dh isnt into valentines day at all so I dont try and change him

Cauterize · 14/02/2021 10:17

We've exchanged cheesy homemade cards - which makes us laugh. That's fine for me!

Lynora · 14/02/2021 10:18

No, nothing.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/02/2021 10:18

Do you get a special prize for “not joining the hype”? Grin

ShirleyPhallus · 14/02/2021 10:18

We don’t really celebrate it, we do lots of romantic stuff other times of the year so that’s ok with us

That said, I’m not gonna be a sniffy dick to those people who choose the celebrate it. People being in love is a nice thing and however they celebrate it is good for them.

Caramel81 · 14/02/2021 10:18

I got roses, a box of chocs and a nice card. DP doesn’t care about Valentine’s Day but he knows I like it. We’ll have a Chinese later and watch a film with a few drinks. We treat each other with love every day but it’s just an excuse to celebrate

fairydustandpixies · 14/02/2021 10:19

I feel terrible because I've received roses, a card and a hamper of local goodies from someone I thought was just a friend. Oops!

Bluemooninmyeyes1 · 14/02/2021 10:19

I agree. When I worked in the office (before all of this wfh malarkey) it did seem to be a type of competition, especially amongst the younger couples, over whose partner had been the most extravagant or spent the most money. But I do think a simple act like giving a card and chocolates or cooking a nice meal is a nice thing to do.

OP posts:
LApprentiSorcier · 14/02/2021 10:20

A card. I was pleased because my husband chose a picture he knew I'd like, not actually a Valentines branded card, and wrote his own message.

We are having guinea fowl for dinner.

alliejay81 · 14/02/2021 10:20

People on social media posting photos of their flowers and presents has just reminded me how extraordinarily tacky Valentine's Day has become. I'd rather be married to a "non-believer" than a Valentine's Day wanker! I might go down to supermarket later to see if they've reduced the flowers though Wink.

Cam2020 · 14/02/2021 10:20

Some expensive chocolates and a card. I've made pancakes for breakfast and going to do get a nice dinner.

I've never been bothered about valentines day really, but it's nice for someone to show a little extra love, although it's pointless if they don't do that the other 364 days of the year!

1starwars2 · 14/02/2021 10:20

DH gave me a small bar of Frys mint cream (mmmm). I gave him a packet of love hearts. That's a pretty normal valentines day for us.

Ninkanink · 14/02/2021 10:20

We don’t do Valentine’s gifts. We exchange cards and make an effort with a special meal at home.

afaloren · 14/02/2021 10:21

We exchanged cards and have bought the M&S dine in thing. We’ll have some fizz later.

We said no gifts but DH has just surprised me with an apron which sounds like a terrible present but I love it! It has a drawing of a dog on it who looks just like our DPup. I’m delighted.

CherryRoulade · 14/02/2021 10:21

Bouquet, some Jo Malone and a card. Chocolates later, I suspect.

Bluewavescrashing · 14/02/2021 10:22

Don't usually bother at all but I did get DH a nice personalised card. He's still asleep but I'm not holding my breath! He got me done really expensive and lovely jewellery for Christmas.

Woodlandbelle · 14/02/2021 10:22

I got roses and lovely cards from dh and dc. Also just having toast cut into a heart shape. Very sweet. I am cooking fillet steak and chips for dinner today. It is nice to do something special for valentines. I bought dh chocolates and a new book he had his eye on.

Onamissionn · 14/02/2021 10:25

I know people sneer at those who participate but me and DH have always done a nice card with a message inside each year and despite me not being the love-y, sentimental type, I love the messages.
