She won.

But she speaks so highly of you!

justasking111 · 11/02/2021 23:08

I hope this acts as a test case and means private personal correspondence remains just that in the future.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/02/2021 23:21

The next stage will be hearing the rest of the claim in court

Regardless of what "bits" have already been decided, this will never happen and for the same reason it's gone to a summary judgement this time

The RF may have stood by while they perceived that most of the damage was flying Meghan's way, but as some of us said from the start, the chances of her being allowed into a witness box were less than nil

See also Paul Burrell ...

Hmm oh yes because they literally never cover Prince Andrew

The British extended royal family makes Netflix The Crown look like Driving Miss Daisy. I am sure this family will continue to provide much material for future Hollywood entertainment (especially as a former model/actress is within their ranks) let alone all the endless forthcoming books each giving their two pence worth for cash! Anyone and everyone connected to them have a story to sell! If only any of us are actually interested! “Oh what the butler saw!”..... If it’s not Meg or Andrew it’s another celeb royal! Who’s next? UAE royal family seem to be trending too. Previous to that it was the Spanish King running off with loot! One rule for some and normal rules and justice for regular subjects!

bonfireheart · 11/02/2021 23:35

Great news.

bonfireheart · 11/02/2021 23:38

"She is supposed to behave according to British royal family norm"

Oh you mean...be a paedophile? Or have an affair?

Mistlewoeandwhine · 11/02/2021 23:39

Team Meghan here

MyOhMySimon · 11/02/2021 23:48

Who actually gives a fk ?
You do.

I don't like her and I never will. She won this case and let's move on.
No.

@MyOhMySimon honestly never understand why people click on, read and respond to a thread about something they apparently don't care about. I have no interest in makeup or sports so ignore those threads, never mind take the time 5o respond.

It'll be interesting to see how this affects the press longer term. Despite all the #bekind after Caroline Flack's suicide there hasn't been much change.

MyOhMySimon · 11/02/2021 23:59

I agree.

Anyone who thinks that someone’s private business should be plastered all over the tabloids should take a long hard look at themselves

Finding Freedom

I guess now she’s won her privacy lawsuit she can go back to having people write tell-all books on her behalf...

Lookingforwardto2021 · 12/02/2021 07:09

Really pleased for her too!

Glad that MM and PH are moving on and building their new life. It takes courage to walk a way from what seems to have been a toxic environment. Good for them 😊

FrippEnos · 12/02/2021 07:10

It would be good if this brought and end to all those 'sources' and 'friends' that 'leak' information to the press.

peak2021 · 12/02/2021 07:11

I feel we should wait for the appeal before rushing to celebrate the Sunday version of the Paper that Supported the Blackshirts losing this case.

MoChridhe · 12/02/2021 07:25

I am glad she won. Also Harry won a libel case against the daily mail a few weeks ago and they had to pay damages which were donated to an invictus charity.

isitspringyet · 12/02/2021 08:09

Wasn’t the letter written with a plan to publish it? Written for the wider audience? I’m not legal minded but didn’t her friends leak it to people magazine and that’s what motivated her father to publish?

Roussette · 12/02/2021 08:31

I imagine money motivates her father, not much else.

Port1aCastis · 12/02/2021 08:42

@Roussette

I imagine money motivates her father, not much else.
Well yes, I wonder how much he trousered from the MoS for divulging the letter
Pipepans · 12/02/2021 08:51

No ones privacy should be invaded in this way, celebrity or not. However considering her father's character very naive to think there was no possibility it wouldn't become public.

Very real possibility it was all stage managed, but none of us will ever really know. I'm sure the press have all sorts of gossip about the royals and others that even they would baulk at publishing, or keep it for a slow news day/ relevant topical moment.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 12/02/2021 10:34

Harry won a libel case against the daily mail a few weeks ago and they had to pay damages which were donated to an invictus charity

Wasn't it reported that, instead of ANL paying the money directly to charity, Harry wanted to do it himself?

We don't know either way and probably never will, but all the same I'd be interested to see any proof that "charity" ever saw a penny of it

Squarepigeon · 12/02/2021 10:52

So you think the person who created the charitable organisation can’t be trusted to pay the money into it?

’Unsurprisingly, The Mail again misled their readers in December by claiming to make a charitable donation as part of an initial apology. They did no such thing.’ Spokesman for H, reported in several papers, announcing H would pay the money to Invictus charities himself.

52andblue · 12/02/2021 10:55

@Unfucked

Imagine if they paid such close attention to Prince Andrew’s personal correspondence ...

This.

YES. I imagine someone important has intervened so the Megan letters case doesn't set a precedent for Andrew's private correspondence being published? Lousy of her Father to sell the letter to the papers though, if he did.
CuriousaboutSamphire · 12/02/2021 11:01

Fuck! some of the comments under that article!

And some here...

Unfucked · 12/02/2021 11:05

While we’re scrutinising charitable donations made by Royals, an investigative journalist really needs to take a look at the Prince’s Trust, and the freebies that Charles and Camilla never lose an opportunity to accept.
