We always have mushrooms and chips.
But I'd like to do something fancy because life sucks.

What's a couple of good sides?

Yummy!

I love having steak in the summer when it just hinges around a great salad. I just don't fancy salad when it's freezing cold!

op that asparagus thing looked yummy! What was it?

Ignore the rude comment about your food. I mean was it master chef in its presentation, maybe not but neither is anyone’s?!

We had takeaway last night. It’s the LAW on a Saturday night. Grin

@lalafafa it was the big daddy rump steak from Aldi. Very good!
@DeRigueurMortis, whilst I agree with most of what you say, two inches for a standard steak a measure is madness. 1.5 inches for a sirloin is very generous, and about right.

Two inches is only ok for a really fat and luxy fillet.
I agree with you actually!

I should have clarified I was referring to fillet as that's what we like best :-)

@Davros and OP

Thank you. Together this thread has sort of solved a minor food mystery that is often wondered about but always forget to look up.

My Swiss friend is no longer with us; it was the Great auntie of a friend from my uni days. They lived on a farm, and I used to go stay sometimes. She was an amazing cook, and had a distinct Swiss/Tyrolean influence thanks to her heritage.

The Milanese risotto and fillet steak was one of my favourites, and she’d always remember to make it for me when I stayed. Washed down with gallons of red wine. She taught me how to make it, but I never knew that’s what it was, or the OssoBucco connection. (Which is why it works so well with steak I suppose)

I looked up the recipes and origin of the risotto thanks to this thread. And I do have some special offer steak that needs using up.... so I think that’s tea tonight sorted.

I hope it turns out well. I can't wait to have Ossobucco with saffron risotto at
