What's goes with steak?

We always have mushrooms and chips.
But I'd like to do something fancy because life sucks.

What's a couple of good sides?

I like my steak on a ciabatta,roasted vine tomatoes and onion with mushrooms.Plus the peppercorn sauce.

Blue cheese sauce, chunky chips, broccoli, carrots, battered onion rings

We have asparagus and tender stem broccoli and/or salad, and wedges or new potatoes. Peppercorn sauce, onion rings. Never had mushrooms, will try that next time.

Big fat triple-cooked chips and homemade coleslaw

Roast a big fat sweet potato and put a dollop of soft goats cheese on top to melt.
Add creamed spinach.

We had ours last night with orange chips ( sweet potato) I know orange chips mean something different in some areas

Lidl's triple cooked beef dripping chips. Food of the gods.

I love mine with a huge rocket salad over the top and loads of really thick parmesan shavings. Then a sprinkle of truffle oil over the top.

Baked potato with sour cream and chives, tenderloin steak and Cesar salad!

Boiled new potatoes smothered in butter, a side salad and peppercorn sauce for me. Fried onions too.

Truffle fries
Prawns
Peppercorn sauce !

Go US retro, serve with baked potato loaded with butter and sour cream and tossed salad (extra points for iceberg wedge with blue cheese dressing.)

Another vote for rocket and Parmesan salad, I add balsamic reduction and a good olive oil.

Served with truffle & Parmesan fries. Here is last nights platter!

I like classic bistro steak fries with Béarnaise. No other accompaniments necessary (other than a glass of red). You need good sirloin for this, or cote de boeuf.

Or I do occasionally go @Empressofthemundane and have a baked potato, soured cream and iceberg wedge with blue-cheese dressing and crispy bacon bits (also add finely chopped skinned and seeded tomatoes and quick pickled chopped red onions to my wedge salad). Best with a rump or t-bone.

If you've got really excellent piece of fillet, filet au poivre, with a sauce made of brandy and veal stock is amazing. Just have with really buttery mash (more butter than mash).

Cannot believe nobody has mentioned red wine. Surely that is most important?

Chips cooked in dripping (from m and s), spinach in loads of butter, roasted tomatoes with olive oil and garlic and basil if you have it, and bearnaise or peppercorn sauce (m and s).

Or rocket and Parmesan and balsamic glaze.
