Following a discussion on this topic with some students, I was reading this article and am interested to hear your honest thoughts on this question.....

More
We can also see that, all else being equal, white applicants are most likely to be under-predicted than all other ethnic groups, and boys are less likely to be under-predicted than girls.

In terms of ethnicity, high achieving white students are more likely to be under-predicted than other ethnic groups. Boys are, however, still less likely to be under-predicted than girls.

I agree with @PlanDeRaccordement 's post (3 posts up). Haven't studied this in full yet but from what I've learned so far, I agree with what's written.

Touché. You're clever, you.

Except, I don't stop people from talking about anything, so I'll say what I want. But I get you Wink

It surely isn't racism in my book - it's tit-for-tat and I totally understand it. Fight on! Like I said, I get you.

But I'm not who you're looking for. Feel free to ignore/cancel me. It would mean something to me if you were the only one I was chatting with or if the thread/OP said so.

Afromeg · 08/02/2021 16:56

My reply was to your previous post, not the latest one. Didn't see it till I posted.

I do get you. There are terrible people everywhere, in every group. Like you, I'm an equal opportunist lover/hater. No discrimination there and colour/race/ethnicity doesn't come into it. Just a matter of 'good people' and 'arseholes' in my book.

Afromeg · 08/02/2021 17:01

In terms of statues removed, I've not been pro-removing but not anti-removing either. I'll have to say that I don't see why they need to stand anyway. I don't think they're affecting anyone's life if they're removed (properly) and put in the museum or something. But they may affect some people's lives if they're left to stand so I get the statue thing.

Summersummer22 · 08/02/2021 17:08

@Coldasfish

Same way I can't comment about other races experiencing it.

And am I racist? I'd like to think not, I hate everybody equally and I don't discriminate ' TRUST ME. If people think I am treating them in a set way because of the colour of their skin, that's their journey and unresolved issues. Not mine. I was called a racist by an Asian man who came to buy my old mobile phone and because I stood firmly on the price and wasn't interested in haggling at my door while he came up with every excuse why he couldn't pay me the price he knew I wanted before he came for it! I certainly wouldn't have sold it to him at all if I was racist.

Do I see race? Yes, we all do and I appreciate beauty in all races but it really does irk me when black women online take this false moral "you don't know what it's like to comment" stance. Same way YOU don't know what racism against whites is like m'dear because you aren't white. Same way I don't know what it's like to be black and suffer racism, so a black person's comments here should are cancelled in my book. Call it what you like!

I don’t know how to break it down to you clearly. Black women can take a stance if they want you don’t have to like it. You have not walked in their shoes and weather you want to admit it or not and it’s THROUGH NO FAULT OF YOUR own it’s just the way the cookie has crumbled you have are PRIVILEGED!!! and you are seen as more acceptable/favourable in several ways. Obviously not everybody holds these views of the opposite colour. Your history doesn’t put you at a disadvantage has anybody asked you why you have Afro hair? Where are you from repeatedly even though your accent is as British as they come.

Racism regarding white people doesn't even come close. THERES NO WHITE ETHNIC MINORITY on a form.

golddustwomen · 08/02/2021 17:15

Aged 18 I did temp admin for a company. Every single bus ride home from work I was called a honky. Was also spat at and asked 'what the fuck do you think you're doing round here you dirty honky' whilst waiting at the bus stop outside work, I left that job after 1 month due to this. My brother was on a bus coming home from town aged 15, the bus broke down in the same area of Birmingham where I had this trouble and whilst waiting for another bus to come him and his friends were called white cunts and mugged. Neither of us have been racist in our lives.
Agree with a pp who said any race can experience racism.

White people certainly do experience racism. You might not agree with that because it doesn't fit your narrative. But I don't really care whether you agree or not. It's still a fact. 🤷‍♀️

LauraWinchester · 08/02/2021 17:47

Yes, I spent part of my childhood in the Middle East and was subject to pretty horrific racism from the locals. Adults and children alike. I was shouted out, spat at, called a whore, told I was a heathen and would burn in hell. Pretty horrifically, some of the local children stole and tortured my cat to death.

I admit this was nothing compared to what the Indian and Filipino workers had to go through however.

Not to mention I had to live in a military compound to protect me and the other Westerners from being murdered or abducted by terrorists!

Listen I didn’t say white people don’t face racism. Black people too can be racists to white people so we are clear.

However I stand by my post. I said it’s not on the same level!! There’s NO BLACK privillege let that sink in. Don’t @ me if you don’t want to listen!

Wotapolava · 08/02/2021 18:03

@Stuckinthemud2

Yes I think so. I come from a BAME background and have heard derogatory remarks about white people.
Has there ever been a successful prosecution?

My only concern is who decides? That's always been my concern and I suspect it's the main concern of many onlookers who are uncomfortable with the self appointed social justice marshals directing these operations and unilaterally deciding which statues and monuments should be toppled or defaced. And then when you do express these concerns, if you're not articulate enough you're automatically dismissed as racist and hectored into explaining why you're uncomfortable with crowds of people rampaging around, committing criminal damage etc. There are definitely some statues that need to go but I think the discomfort with these actions is often more to do with wondering just how far this behaviour will be allowed to go and why the mob gets to decide.

I don't agree with you. And if I want to respond to your posts, on this public forum, then I will.

It's an opinion. That's it.

People like you are part of the problem 😴
HmmSureJan · 08/02/2021 18:18

Your argument is weak. Arguing there is Black privilege 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 idiot of the year goes to you!

I haven't offered an argument. I just don't agree with you. I don't believe in concepts of "privilege". I don't believe in CRT. I don't believe in calling people who disagree with me names either but whatever 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hettya · 08/02/2021 18:20

Just like critical race theory. It's a doctrine, not testable, not based in any scientific grounding. A manual that some people use to guide their lives, which is simply based on...opinion.

Please. You didn’t want to hear an opinion that you didn’t like. Because it doesn’t for YOUR narrative. How ignorant.

For the record my nan is WHITE and my Grandma is black I have NO narrative however I do know there is NO black privilege!! But you don’t want to hear that do you? Does it make you uncomfortable? I never asked you to agree you @ me first. If you can do what you like.... don’t be getting upset because your point looks rather bleak! “Saying you don’t care is rude” so please don’t act so full of morals when it’s suits.......
