What weird thoughts do you have?

Walking around my bedroom just now, I suddenly became aware of the downstairs part of my house underneath the floor. I know it's there all the time obviously but the thought just popped into my mind that there's another level underneath.

Tell me your weird thoughts please!

@needadvice54321

I've always had weird thoughts about words. Who chose them, the sounds etc. I love the sounds of some words (fabric is my favourite) Grin
I can tell you as someone who's homeschooling a year 1 so doing phonics, I often think murderous shit about words

drEAm
shEEp
mE
thEsE

Why do we need so many frigging spellings for E? In my new world order, when I care not a dog for the origins of words it would be

shEp
drEm
mE
thEs

Capital letters are for sounds not grammar

Jax is so beautiful I think I'd wanna see his face😂
Same logic for THOR

Karen138 · 11/02/2021 23:22

I always hear people talking to me when I'm alone in my house - thought it was my neighbours then remembered I haven't had neighbours since I was 29! Grin

As in Hi Karen, how are you today? Inside or outside of your head?

The witch circle
My favourite quote ever.. never heard that before

In crowded places I always imagine that if a disaster were to happen, say a bomb or a building collapse/fire then this is the group of people who'd be in it together. Like if someone was just snotty to me I think I could be saving their life in a few minutes' time, or I'll look out for the frailer people or the children/babies and think 'I'd come to you first'
Totally over the top

Faithtrusts · 12/02/2021 08:00

@fucknuckle a centaur must wear them on the back legs as it's a horse bottom half and that's where it's genitals are? I mean if the only point of pants is modesty.
The problem is if he is actually wearing pants to carry his mobile photo and wallet and not bothered about exposure ... he couldn't reach them so then would have to be at the front... but maybe they'd choose chaps in that case else they fasten too low... interesting 🤨

Saucery · 12/02/2021 08:16

This is why I love MN. Sat in my car, early for work, and now considering Centaur Pants.

I agree. Fabric is a lovely crisp, clean word, unlike cloth which sounds floppy and somewhat damp Grin
needadvice54321 · 12/02/2021 09:21

Yes @0blio ! GrinGrin

5moremin · 12/02/2021 09:23

Why do we talk abt going up to space. What about space downwards from earth
Allllways the afterlife
And the usual 3am covid mental thoughts who first thought of how to bake bread and buns. Who actually realised that sugar butter flour etc. Same with knitting who first thought to go round the wee bunny hole??

You did ask crazy thoughts

SleepingStandingUp · 12/02/2021 15:40

@5moremin but your rocket always shoots up, it can't shoot down into the earth

Re centaurs

Two ideas. Two piece for the young and slim centaur or all natural for the sexy cenataur

Who decides what words we use for things.
Why is this thing that my laptop is resting on called, for instance, a table, and why did we agree that it was "a table" and not "a woogahumpf".

PompomDahlia · 12/02/2021 16:27

I find it weird to think of how many countries there are that we rarely hear about in the UK. So there are currently people in, say, Kyrgyzstan, just going about their day.

I can't comprehend the two world wars - how the leaders coordinated everything that was going on with millions of people involved all over the world. Especially without live emails, how did they know what was happening and what they should do and where to go?

Learning languages I could never get my head around the idea of genders and how people learn which gender an object is and why.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 12/02/2021 18:43

Photos. How time can be captured and years later you can look at how you once we're back then. Yet we can't stop the passage of time. Sorry, that probably doesnt make much sense!

Echobelly · 12/02/2021 18:45

I had a phase where, in idle moments where I wasn't thinking of anything in particular, the image of my lower legs being wrapped on clingfilm kept popping into my mind. Confused

The Latins did it 🤣🤣

Table comes from Old English tabule ‘flat slab, inscribed tablet’, from Latin tabula ‘plank, tablet, list’, reinforced in Middle English by Old French table

I often think that maybe we all see colours differently. So I could ask my DS to look at the blue sky and it would be blue to me and green to him but we both are taught it as blue. So we all see the whole world in completely different colours but don't know it. Does that even make sense. GrinGrin
I said exactly that to my husband!
IEat · 12/02/2021 19:10

We all have a voice in our heads that we use to read

HUCKMUCK · 12/02/2021 19:23

I sometimes think about a person, either someone I know or someone famous and suddenly find it weird that they actually exist abs are somewhere doing something.

Like right now, as you read this, what do you imagine Daniel Day Lewis is doing?!

Cattermole · 12/02/2021 21:15

Which is as may be, @SleepingStandingUp, but why did THEY decide that was what the word was? And why did we decide to use the Latin (for the judging) and not, say, the Greek - which is trapezi, I believe?
And more importantly, how did they get everyone to agree on it??

It os particularly true in English as it's such a mixture of everything. This is why phonics sucks ass
MysweetAudrina · 12/02/2021 22:07

While walking through the crowds in Lima, it blew my mind that all these people were going about living their lives on the other side of the world and I had never been aware of them.

That one day I will not be here. I can't imagine life without me.

That we are so important in our own lives but fairly meaningless in the big picture.

Why there are so many species of animals on the earth but no life on other planets that we know of.

How a human, no matter how gifted can not make something as gorgeous as a cat or a dog.

That we understand so little about ourselves. Sometimes its like been gifted a piece of high tech but not given an instruction manual

That humans are so fragile yet resilient

Why physical beauty is such a thing. Surely most body parts are functional so why do such insignificant things like the length of a tiny hair coming of your eye, or the space between your teeth, or the length of a leg bone matter in any way.

letsgomaths · 12/02/2021 22:23

As a child, being blindfolded fascinated me: how everyone else in the room could see, and I couldn't. I would ponder why I couldn't see the pattern on the scarf over my eyes, and how after being spun round, I could be standing there and not knowing which way I was facing. Sometimes I blindfold myself just to think about this all over again.
