What weird thoughts do you have?

Walking around my bedroom just now, I suddenly became aware of the downstairs part of my house underneath the floor. I know it's there all the time obviously but the thought just popped into my mind that there's another level underneath.

Tell me your weird thoughts please!

I think about famous people from the past and the plague and just history and just think everyone is still here.. nothing has left the earth, the cave men, the dinosaurs, the Middle Ages, the Romans.. all still here.

What triggered that whole chain was stupid deaths on horrible histories.. I just sat thinking all still on this earth.

And I look at stars and wonder about who will be looking at them in the future.

Kintsugi16 · 07/02/2021 23:43

I think about how weird it is that most money doesn’t actually exist. It impacts on absolutely everything but it’s all just figures and numbers. I wonder how much actual cash there is in the world

boredwiththeoldname · 07/02/2021 23:44

I find it amazing to think that every one of us is descended from someone who survived the Black Death.

Occasionally I wonder what my life would have been like if I'd been born a boy.

When I cut a red cabbage in half yesterday and looked at the pattern of the leaves inside, I realised that I am the only person in the history of the universe who will ever see that exact same pattern.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 07/02/2021 23:51

I sometimes like to think that we're not in charge of cars; it's actually giant creatures living inside the earth who drag our cars along the surface of the planet by playing with magnets on their 'side'.

GoldilocksAndTheThreePears · 08/02/2021 00:15

I definitely have colour thoughts too, surprised so many of you seem to think similarly! Like right now I'm wearing a pink top, I see it as pink but does anyone else see the exact same colour? We all call it pink because when we see this shade, we know it's pink, but do we see the same?

Writing. It's just lines and loops and curves and dots. It's nothing! But it conveys my thoughts, even my weird thoughts, and people look at it from wherever they are. I will never meet or know the real name of any person reading this sentence but you can see the words I'm just banging out and it's whoosh, right in your brain. This is bonkers.

Random chance is my weirdest thought though. The fact that my entire existence is due to a woman cheating on a man, so the man left the woman and ended up at a party and met my mum, and now I exist. No cheating, no decision to go to party, no me. But also the party was held by my mum's parents and they nearly didn't hold it, so again no me. If I didn't come along my parents would have split, they aren't so good together, so my 3 entire siblings would not exist. Their children would not. But what if dad hadn't gone to the party, and met someone else and had a whole different family and one of them grew up to cure cancer. Or grew up to start a war!

Sometimes my thoughts get proper weird.

AnaisNun · 08/02/2021 00:29

I sometimes think about the men I’ve loved/fancied/crushed on/wondered if they were “the one that got away”- over 20 years of a very, ahem, busy love life. Some of whom never had a clue how I felt- and wonder if anyone thinks/still thinks about me in that way? And then I wonder who....

I think there should be a romance amnesty one day, where we all just tell everyone we’ve ever had the hots for, that we did or do.

I would be wonderful or terrible. I’m not at all sure which.

VampireTheBuffetSlayer · 08/02/2021 01:01

The colour thing came up with me yesterday. DP is colourblind. We were watching a film yesterday and there was a blue car and someone in the film said it was green. Am I colourblind and just never realised?

I live in a ground floor flat. My neighbours are usually really quiet but for some reason they've been noisy this week. I feel really weird that above my head are a couple living their life, I can hear them making dinner and going to the loo but I don't even know their names!

I used to play The Sims badly and wonder if the characters were sentient and we're all just players in some big game.

Finally, and also, I wonder when people say they've been captured by aliens and experimented on if that's how wild animals feel when they've been tagged by conservationists. Do they go and tell their mates they've been drugged and experimented on and their mates say "Go home Dave you're pissed"

lighteincastlewindow · 08/02/2021 01:01

I'm in the matrix

shouldreallynamechangemore · 08/02/2021 01:41

How the people in the Roman Empire had no idea that one day no one would worship their gods. But also how odd it is that the Roman Empire has sort of survived through the Catholic Church.

shouldreallynamechangemore · 08/02/2021 01:45

That most technological advances arose through some kind of oppression or power imbalance

shouldreallynamechangemore · 08/02/2021 01:46

That women would be more equal and society more generally if farming hadn't been invented. Sorry, 3 in a row!

PawPawNoodle · 08/02/2021 01:47

I think my most consistent weird thought is wondering what strangers do with their pubes.

HouseyHouse21 · 08/02/2021 01:59

Every time I drive my car, I think about how I'm putting my life in the hands of a random group of strangers, just trusting that they won't get distracted or feel like ploughing into me head-on. Especially at roundabouts and traffic lights. Mad if you think about it.

I also used to wonder how I know that everyone else can't see my thoughts. Just because I can't see other people's thought bubbles, does that mean they can't see mine??

MissHoney85 · 08/02/2021 02:25

This is an interesting one. I was reading about the Agricultural Revolution and our transition from an idyllic Hunter Gatherer existence, and thought there's quite a bit of parallel with the Garden of Eden story in the Bible. Turns out I'm not the first to have thought that. One interpretation is that women would have been the first to discover the knowledge of how to grow food (showing Adam how to eat the fruit of the tree), and as a result of the transition they became more tied to the home and family while men took on the physical work of farming (God cursing Eve to painful childbirth and Adam to toiling in the fields).
BluePeterVag · 08/02/2021 02:25

I often think about Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot, which is about the Earth seen from space. How small it looks, hanging there in a sunbeam. Watch the video if you haven’t seen it, it is mindblowing

That all the eggs my ovaries with every release are right there, at birth. So when my mum was heavily pregnant with me, within her she carried me and the two eggs that would one day create her 3 grandsons. DHs body makes his sperm anew but my Mom's bloody made my eggs.

I have all boys so I can't pass that on, and the mitochondrial DNA passed on by my ancestors for thousands of years through the female line end here, passed to my son's but now dead-ended

73kittycat73 · 08/02/2021 10:00

That 'The Hum,' and some illnesses that cause dizziness are due to the fact that Earth is spinning at 1000mph and hurtling round space at 67000mph. Do we feel it at birth too, or do we acclimatize?

giantwaterbottle · 08/02/2021 15:03

Oooh @Moofart me too! I also have only boys and have thought this!

fucknuckle · 08/02/2021 16:03

that static on the telly (in the olden days of static, obvs) is leftover energy from the Big Bang. i mean, that’s mental.

cats don’t miaow at each other to communicate. they miaow at humans though. just exactly how exasperated is my cat that i don’t understand him immediately? are some of his miaows just ‘for fucks SAKE, human! how hard is it to get that i want a head rub but don’t touch my shoulders!’

cats are weird. the relationship between humans and animals blows my mind. we’re all sentient creatures but we haven’t evolved a decent way of communicating.

i think too much.

CrazyCatLazy · 09/02/2021 19:18

I love these! I have weird thoughts all the time! I also wonder the colours thing, I used to talk to my dad about it as a child.

One big one is I always find it strange about how close I was to meeting people I know now etc,
EG. I used to go to college in a city about 40mins from where I live, I now have been with my DP over a year who lives in this city. We sat together and shop in places I used to go to alone or with friends, go to Christmas markets I’ve been to before him etc.
I was so close to meeting him all this time? I’ve even been pretty much past his house a few times.

He also used to work in the town I live in and commuted every day!

If spiders had feet, would all of their shoes be the same size? Of would they have to buy different sizes.. so the longer legs at the back might be a size 9 and the smaller legs at the fronts feet would only be a 5 ?

My brain goes to strange places when it can't sleep, and this very question managed to start an argument in our hous3

peaceanddove · 09/02/2021 20:46

A few. That your chance of winning the Lottery by using 6 sequential numbers is just as likely as winning it by using 6 random numbers. I know this is true, but I can't get my head around it. It seems so wrong.

That the average human IQ really hasn't changed in thousands of years. If you could travel back in time and kidnap a toddler from Ancient Egypt, and brought them to 2021 - if you gave them an iPhone they'd quickly figure out how to watch Disney on it. And that a well educated teenager in Tudor times would have been just as good at maths as a teen in 2021 (though the methods they used would be different).

User2847473 · 09/02/2021 20:59

Mine is... I have a mum, who had a mum, who had a mum, who had a mum, who had a mum, etc, etc- this whole long line of women having baby girls which stretches back for thousands of years, back to when we were cave women. However, I have had three baby boys so I have stopped this chain of girls having girls in my family. I think I have understood that right!

Similar to this, the only reason/way I exist is my mum gave birth to me, but her mum had to give birth to her, her mums mother etc. So its a continuous chain of humans generation after generation. Not to get evangelical but I just can't get my head round this and so many questions!

@Bluewavescrashing

In a way it would make more sense to poo out of your heel. Less messy.
Nah, you'd tread it all into the floor.
