Vaccine refusal

Do you know anyone who is refusing to have the vaccine, for whatever reason

@sausagepastapot

If you take ANY drug, or ANY vaccine, you are part of phase 4 trials.

If you will take a paracetamol but refuse the vaccine, you are a fool.

At least we know paracetamol works.
Wyntersdiary · 29/01/2021 20:26

I'm not an anti vaxxer but I'm not getting it.

My kids all have there vaccines but also won't be having any covid vaccine.

My uncles a Dr and has said he won't be getting it yet.

Anon778833 · 29/01/2021 20:27

@Wyntersdiary - my cousin is also a doctor and he said the same. Why is your uncle not getting it? I find the whole thing so confusing.

I'm still on the fence. I've done my research and am corned about the new vaccine type used by Pfeizer.

If I was given the choice I'd have the Oxford one but sadly don't think we're being given a choice.

popgoestyeweasel · 29/01/2021 20:31

Concerned not corned

Otherplans · 29/01/2021 20:31

I had mine (Pfizer) on Wednesday. Don't like needles and am already seriously ill, but it was absolutely fine. I have a sore arm but no other effects. I was just so grateful.

lljkk · 29/01/2021 20:31

Me. I intend to refuse for as long as possible.
I'm supposed to have bodily autonomy.
I'm not supposed to have to "give a good enough reason"

I have No worries about any covid jab safety.
I eagerly got flu jab a few years ago voluntarily (admittedly free & convenient).
Am very glad when I hear about very vulnerable people getting covid jab.

I want autonomy over my body. I'm not going to talk to anyone about my decision about my body in real life because I don't want any people insisting I shouldn't have autonomy over my body.
I've put up with enough of that shit for last 12 months.

popgoestyeweasel · 29/01/2021 20:32

And I'm not anti vaxxer

takemetomars · 29/01/2021 20:34

@badlydrawnbear

I am a nurse, and have colleagues who won't have it (not all of them are nurses but they work in a hospital) for various reasons: anti-vax, worried about side effects, worried about effect on fertility/ pregnancy/ breastfeeding, concerned by how new it is and might consider it at a later date.
This is unforgivable, as a healthcare professional, you should not be allowed to be patient facing without being fully vaccinated for all preventable disease
notacooldad · 29/01/2021 20:39

Just iver half of my team at work are refusing to have it The rest of us got done last week.

Wyntersdiary · 29/01/2021 20:53

@SugarbabyMilly not entirely sure but he has seen some really bad rea tions and said that they haven't had enough info on it yet, apparently they are being rejected certain info and he was told all they can say is that there is actually no evidence that it protacts anyone against anything it just reduces symptoms potentially like the cough or temp but he doesn't believe that's a good enough outcome for the risks he says are involved with getting it.

He's not an anti vaxxer but he does say all vaccines carry great risk but atleast the others have had extensive testing and have been used for years whereas this is just so new

2020newbie · 29/01/2021 20:55

Yes me, I suffer severe allergies and previously had several instances of anaphylaxis. GP won’t even allow me to get the yearly flu vaccine even though I’m asthmatic because frankly the vaccine poses more threat than the illness itself

hm246 · 29/01/2021 21:01

My Dad, he was very unwell after the flu vaccine a few years back so has not had one since or won’t have the COVID vaccine.

OhWhyNot · 29/01/2021 21:08

Yes I do

I work in mental health so many people I work with have a distrust of authority and struggle with paranoid thoughts. Lots of interest in conspiracy theories

Staff a few are the same Confused and a few just feel it’s not been tested out enough yet which I understand (I don’t agree I had my vaccine)

frumpety · 29/01/2021 21:12

@lljkk don't have it then, nobody really cares whether you do or you don't, other than you and posssibly some family members if they are concerned you are in a higher risk group. Nobody can force you to have it, so you can keep that bodily autonomy intact. You will be sent an invite which you can decline, they might check you recieved it, you can assure them you did and then tell them you won't be having it and they will get on with contacting the other thousands of people who might quite like it. Smile

OhWhyNot · 29/01/2021 21:16

4redSocks many of us would have been popping paracetamol without much thought for years before it was fully understood how it works

OhWhyNot · 29/01/2021 21:24

I don’t agree with anyone being forced to be vaccinated and thankfully they won’t be I don’t wish to live in a society like that

But many people who are choosing not to be vaccinated will soon change their mind once they are limited to where they can travel

Dowser · 29/01/2021 21:27

Me too Except I’m not a nurse.
haliborange0verdose · 29/01/2021 21:41

Some of my extended family / in-laws (who love the conspiracy theories) swear they're not getting the vaccine. They quote hysterical stories about nurses dropping dead minutes after receiving the jab, every time I've managed to debunk the story with a two minute Google but it's like a game of Whack a Mole, another one pops right up. Some people just don't want to be educated.

MO1268 · 29/01/2021 21:43

@takemetomars
As a HCP myself, fully agree with you.

I don't know anyone who's refused, all family/ friends/colleagues are desperate for vaccine.
I've had both my Pfizer jabs (also severe penicillin allergic) and all was absolutely fine.

AnnaMagnani · 29/01/2021 21:48

If you have anaphylaxis you can't have Pfizer but can have Oxford. Any other level of allergy they don't care about.

My v elderly DM has anaphylaxis to penicillin and bee stings, and had her Oxford vaccine this morning - no problems, feels well and delighted she had could have it.

AnnaMagnani · 29/01/2021 21:54

If you want to 'choose Oxford' just because you prefer it's quite easy - you just book to have it done at a pharmacy when you get your letter.

They don't have the storage facilities for Pfizer so are only doing Oxford.

If you have a clinical reason you can say so when you get your phone call as my DM found out and they will ring you specially from your local hub when they have Oxford in.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 29/01/2021 21:58

@4redSocks - we don't actually understand fully how paracetamol works.

This vaccine has been tested as much as any other, just faster due to funding, number of teams working on it, adapting vaccines we already had.

We can't prove it has no effect on fertility, but as no other vaccine does, it would be fairly reasonable to assume this one doesn't either.

Please, please take the vaccine when you are offered it, unless advised otherwise by your GP/consultant.

Bandino · 29/01/2021 21:58

I've been Ill from the flu vaccine for weeks now. But I will still have it. I might opt for the Oxford tho, thanks for that information Annamag, that's very useful.

millymollymoomoo · 29/01/2021 22:03

Me
I’m not anti vaccine at all
I don’t believe in the conspiracy theories
I’d urge people in at risk categories take it
I’m luncky enough to be young, healthy and gave no underlying conditions do I don’t feel the need
And as there is no evidence it stops s to e catching it or passing it on, me not having it won’t impact you if you’ve had yours
