Vaccine refusal

Do you know anyone who is refusing to have the vaccine, for whatever reason

@AnnaMagnani - thanks for reporting back about your mum, that’s good news - sorry she felt a bit bad with it but glad it soon passed.

@MarieVanGoethem - thanks - I don’t react normally to vaccines per se so I should be fine. Although I don’t ever get the annual flu jab (I’ve had all the other normal ones - I don’t get the flu one because my immune system always over reacts so I normally am very healthy and kill off any winter bugs). I will though have a couple of epipens on hand when I get the Covid jab, just to be on the safe side. From reading these threads it feels like people feel worse after the AZ one than the Pfizer. But I may end up with one of the other ones anyway by the time they get down to group 9.

@Yohoheaveho

I'm glad lots of people are rushing to get it so that I can hang back and wait and see what happens to them
Exactly!
Justmuddlingalong · 31/01/2021 15:07

Is there an issue with the vaccines and those allergic to penicillin?

it's been rushed through in pandemic conditions meaning that normal testing protocols have been bypassed. absolute nonsense.

Timbucktime · 31/01/2021 15:14

@OhWhyNot

I don’t agree with anyone being forced to be vaccinated and thankfully they won’t be I don’t wish to live in a society like that

But many people who are choosing not to be vaccinated will soon change their mind once they are limited to where they can travel

So you are saying that thankfully people won’t be forced to be vaccinated as you don’t wish to live in a society like that yet then effectively say that they will be forced to be vaccinated if they want to travel.

So forced by other means then.

addicted2spaniels · 31/01/2021 15:33

vk.ovg.ox.ac.uk/vk/vaccine-development

The Meningitis B vaccine took 15 years.

And following the SARS outbreaks of 2002 and 2004 (17 years ago), no effective vaccine has been developed.

So yes I am sceptical of the speed that this vaccine has been brought out in. If that makes me thick, so be it Hmm

MarieVanGoethem · 31/01/2021 16:33

@Justmuddlingalong
No, no issue - for a while in December the recommendation was that anyone who’d a history of anaphylactic reactions (to anything) not have the Pfizer vaccine after 2 HCPs had an anaphylactoid reaction to it. On the 30th of December this guidance was reviewed & it’s now only contraindicated if you’ve an allergy to any of the ingredients. Unfortunately it seems this message isn’t being anywhere near as well publicised as the initial change. There’s a link in one of my earlier posts to a BMJ article; & if you’ve a history of adverse drug/vaccine reactions it’s well worth discussing it with your GP or practice nurse.

@GaraMedouar
Glad you’re feeling reassured Smile You can request the Yellow Card information about the vaccines from the MHRA (unlike medications you can’t just search it on the website) if it’d help you to see that other people have been fine &/or what you can expect from it side-effects wise, but tbh I’d not bother... Anaphylaxis is a horrendous thing; & the fear of maybe causing yourself to go through it would’ve been a dreadful thing to have having over your head for months. I hope your turn comes around soon.

Justmuddlingalong · 31/01/2021 18:28

Thank you, Marie, it's DP who's allergic to penicillin, so I just want to check after it was mentioned.

Yohoheaveho · 31/01/2021 18:30

totally understandable, but remember...'necessity is the mother of invention'
cometh the hour cometh the vaccine!

willowstar · 31/01/2021 18:55

I work as a vaccinator...many people are surprised how little they feel it. I would say at least three quarters of people say 'is that it? I didn't feel a thing' (or similar) immediately afterwards.

I had mine...sore arm next day, bit tired but otherwise well. Far, far better than having covid.

I personally don't know anyone who hasn't rushed to get it.

OhWhyNot · 31/01/2021 19:10

Timbucktime travelling is a choice

We are not forced to travel to Spain or Mauritius on holiday

Many will soon change their stance on having the vaccine if their choice of holiday destination will not allow them to travel there which is very likely to happen

soundofsilence1 · 31/01/2021 19:10

My parents. They want to wait for Moderna or Novavax despite my telling them they will not get a choice. They are worried about the effiacy of AZ and the dosing regime of Pfizer.

fucknuckle · 31/01/2021 21:52

i’m having my first one on Tuesday. am only 47 but CEV. i’m a little bit concerned about side effects but i have the flu jab every year with no fallout and have had the pneumonia one as well, no side effects at all.

i live alone so this is my only concern if it makes me feel shitty. i have psoriatic arthritis and already live with chronic pain so the prospect of more isn’t great. but for me, Covid would be much worse so i’ll happily go along on Tuesday.

re: sore arm. how sore is sore? should i have it in my non-dominant arm?

Dustyboots · 31/01/2021 22:35

I don't want to have it - mainly because we'll keep having to have the latest version - with every new variant - and that all feels too much.

superduster · 31/01/2021 22:36

Just realised I will struggle to have it in one of the big vaccine centres because of anxiety around needles. I usually lie down for injections and don't look at needles! However I guess as I'm not going to have it for 6 months + its not an imminent problem.

LittleBearPad · 31/01/2021 22:42

You mean like flu vaccines.
ammary · 31/01/2021 22:58

@fucknuckle non dominant arm yes.

If Pfizer that is.
If AZ prepare for some dizziness and a temp overnight.

Based on my personal experience and my colleagues who have had between us had a lot of both.

My arm hurt for 3 days then fine.

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 18:12

@yearinyearout

No, it has emergency authorisation so this is actually a fact.

Condoms were never mandatory during the early days of AIDS (which I remember) and the very idea that people would have to be HIV tested to go abroad then only get a pass if they're "clean" would be (quite rightly) laughed out of the room. Covid is far less deadly than HIV was then yet everyone's losing their minds over it. Check actual ONS death stats and also check Sweden/Belarus versus New York & UK.

bruffin · 11/03/2021 18:20

@safariboot

No, but I'm dreading it. I hate injections and have a history of fainting after them. The photos of giant halls, or of people getting drive-through jabs, the whole thing coming across as very industrialised to vaccinate people as quickly as possible - it terrifies me.

I would absolutely have to refuse a drive-thru vaccine. Like I said, I faint after jabs, so that would be downright dangerous. So if I was put in a position of drive-thru jab or no jab, it would be no jab.

My dd is a vaccinator and someone in the next pod fainted onto her. He hadnt told them he had fainted before. She said had they known they would have done his on a bed
KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 18:29

I hope everyone takes notes what they need because you're back for more in September (furlough runs to then, good chance of "all free for Christmas if you get round 2!").

And then March '22. And September '22. And repeat. I wonder if "Just got my jab!

Dd works at a vaccine centre , they do have beds
EmpressSuiko · 11/03/2021 18:54

Yup, quite a few family members. I’ve tried to educate and reassure them but it’s their choice at the end of the day, they’d rather believe all the “facts” from Facebook and YouTube than find information for a reputable source.

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 19:08

Probably catch the doubters in September for round 2, they'll have had 6 months to see no side effects and will be sick of not being allowed to go places.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 11/03/2021 19:22

DH isn't sure. I think it has to be everyone's individual choice.
