Vaccine refusal

Do you know anyone who is refusing to have the vaccine, for whatever reason

Are you kidding? Everyone I know has been begging for the jab.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 29/01/2021 19:08

I know if I still had my cat, he would refuse it.
Getting him to swallow a pill was like trying to put toothpaste back into the tube.

gabsdot45 · 29/01/2021 19:10

Yes. A couple of anti vaccer acquaintances but more worrying a couple of nurses on the nursing home my aunt works in refused it.

Yes. One due to needle phobia and one who is trying to conceive and is concerned about potentially affecting fertility or a very new pregnancy

frumpety · 29/01/2021 19:14

No I don't know anyone personally that has refused the vaccine, most of the people I know, I either work with and so understand the benefit of having it both for themselves, their vulnerable patients and their extended families, or are in a group that won't be offered it for a while.

Had mine not so long back and looking forward to the second dose Smile

ilovebagpuss · 29/01/2021 19:17

7% of our staff in a large care group have declined to have it. I think most of these cases are down to rumour and rubbish they have read. I managed to talk one lady round regarding the whole it’s too fast it must be bodge job rhetoric.
It’s just like having a flu jab that has been tweaked to have the Covid-19 as the new flu variant it’s not some mutant bowl of weird untried nanobots. That’s how they could do it so fast the base layer is already a standard thing they just needed to wait until they had the recipe for the Covid part to stick in.
I have probably not explained that in a very science way Grin sorry.

FreshFreesias · 29/01/2021 19:17

I’m allergic to penicillin but otherwise healthy.
I’ve heard of people having quite a few side effects so won’t be having it. Given that I enjoy good health I just don’t want to risk it.
If I was younger I’d also be worried about the effects on fertility.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 29/01/2021 19:18

I'm not having it, neither are DH or DM.

Movedtothedge · 29/01/2021 19:24

I know an 89 year old who won’t have it as he says Covid is all a load of rubbish and a government conspiracy to control us.

frumpety · 29/01/2021 19:25

@BamboozledandBefuddled do you all have medical reasons why you can't have it at the moment or do you just not trust the science ?

73kittycat73 · 29/01/2021 19:26

I'm due to have it on Monday and admit I'm a bit scared about it. Confused

Ch3rish · 29/01/2021 19:27

One might think that natural selection in action might be the result for him, some people's stupidity knows no limits it seems
Defenbaker · 29/01/2021 19:29

I know a few people who are saying they don't want the jab, for various reasons. I have tried to persuade a couple of them to have it, as they are both in quite high risk groups (one is in his 70s and vulnerable, the other works in a hospital canteen), but it all fell on deaf ears so I don't mention it now. I just think, OK, their choice, fine, maybe I'll get mine quicker because of people like them. Vaccines feel like the only route to things getting anywhere near normal, and that is what I try to focus on, especially while the daily deaths are so high.

BamboozledandBefuddled · 29/01/2021 19:29

DM has medical reasons. Not 'trusting the science' isn't a factor for any of us. I'm not going in to reasons as I'm well aware that no reason is considered good enough by the majority of Mumsnetters.

Ostryga · 29/01/2021 19:29

I haven’t actually, and I work with people who refused all vaccines for their child, but happily had their covid vaccine. Now that doesn’t make any kind of logical sense to me. Leave your kid unprotected, but make sure they’re ok?

MrMeSeeks · 29/01/2021 19:29

And conspiracy theories

Mucky1 · 29/01/2021 19:30

My 88 yo old GFI 🤦‍♀️

barofsoap · 29/01/2021 19:32

3 out of 4 in this household aren't having it .... yet. Seems to have little actual individual benefit for the low risk.
Re all risk to all is that people may have the vacc, catch the disease and think "it can't be covid" and carry on spreading it around leading to increased cases.
However if it turns out to lead to reduced transmission then I will have it

MrMeSeeks · 29/01/2021 19:32

73kittycat73 you’ll be fine, bit of a sore arm after, but it will be fine!

73kittycat73 · 29/01/2021 19:34

@MrMeSeeks

Thank you. Smile
GaraMedouar · 29/01/2021 19:35

I haven’t been offered it yet as I’m down in group 9 but I feel wary due to allergies (penicillin and some food - anaphylaxis level).
I saw a clip of Dr Xand on tv a couple of days ago and he said people with allergies should avoid Pfizer but AZ is fine.
I probably will have it but still feel a bit scared.

Silvergreen · 29/01/2021 19:37

Some people who didn't want it a month ago now can't wait to have it. It's great that people can change their minds when their concerns are listened to and addressed properly.

davidsSchitt · 29/01/2021 19:41

Yes, apparently my usually sane friend has "researched the shit out of this" and what she's found is "worrying".

Then says she'll have it if it's required for pub entry in the future but has turned it down currently Sad

sylbunny · 29/01/2021 19:42

As someone who currently has covid - I cannot imagine what side effects people think could possibly be worse than how ill I have been these last few days. I am pregnant as well so it's been the hardest thing I have ever been through. I can't walk more than a few steps without panting. If you are considering refusing it, please read some actual scientific research on how the vaccine was developed as well and the research that has gone in to it.
