I’ve had my second vaccine and I feel horrendous

Gazelley · 24/01/2021 18:40

Absolutely bloody awful. Exactly like the flu. I had no problem after my first and I’m very pro vaccine so this is not a “don’t get the vaccine” post. Just be aware you might need a day off afterwards.

Had the vaccine at 8ish last night

 • woke up around 3 with a headache
 • woke up again at 6 with severe muscle aches all over
 • fever then chills, fever then chills on and off all day
 • vertigo and the room spinning when I turn over in bed
 • appetite is fine, I’ve still been hungry
 • very sore arm (same as the first time)

I’m hoping it’s going to be gone by tomorrow morning but I’m feeeling bloody sorry for myself

My 82 year old FIL had his first Pfizer vaccine last week and it seems to have triggered a flare-up of his shingles, he's in so much pain sad“

Shingles is horrid, hope he recovers quickly.
Your wording “his shingles” suggests this is an ongoing problem for him. In which case his latest flare up is most likely coincidental?

Or maybe triggered by the vax ? Sounds feasible to me
CheviotEwe · 26/01/2021 09:19
@CheviotEwe

Perhaps also he should report through the Yellow Card Scheme

yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/
That would be beyond his tech capabilities and I don't think he'd do it even if he could. He's a lovely, but awkward bugger. I'll investigate on his behalf, though.

CheviotEwe · 26/01/2021 09:22
@CheviotEwe hope you don't mind me asking but have any doctors given you any info as to why this has happened ??

I only ask as my 74 year old dad had the shingles vaccine back in 2019 and then 3 months later he got shingles and is still suffering effects from it now.

He is so far refusing to have the covid vaccine for various reasons but the main one being to do with shingles.
As far as I'm aware, he's not contacted his GP; he's managing it with OTC cococodamol.

He first had shingles about 12 years ago, which lasted for a good couple of years and, while it never completely went away, it's never flared up again since this vaccine.

Pimlicojo · 26/01/2021 10:19

My neighbours, both in their 80s, have had both Pfizer vaccines and have had no side effects other than a sore arm. There are many positive experiences.

Fair enough. Hope he feels much better soon.

Noticed upthread a PP suggesting paracetamol 4 hrly - please don’t take paracetamol more than 4 times in 24hrs.

Flippyferloppy · 26/01/2021 10:46

Lots of nurses I know in the US have had it (Pfizer). They are all basically all saying the same: nothing after the first vaccine, feverish/achey after the second, but nothing paracetamol can't handle. Lasts 24 hours(ish). Paramedic and nurse friends here have had their first shots in the last few days. No reports of anything from either of them.

Toobuktim · 26/01/2021 14:07

Had my first dose of Pfizer first thing this morning, didn’t feel the injection, still feel fine. I was warned of a sore arm for a few days, maybe some warmth around the injection site or a little lump. Will see how I’m feeling tomorrow, but I think I’ll be just fine.

Naughtypenguin · 26/01/2021 20:21

I'm due my first jab tomorrow as I'm CEV I'm grateful to the op for posting it has calmed me considerably i take 2 different immunosuppressive treatments, have a history of asymptomatic responses and have had reactions to immunisations before it took me a week to shake off the flu jab aftereffects in November but generally I am fine with most of the flu jab over the last 10+ years now I know possible case scenarios i won't worry until the first 48hrs have passed after a year indoors yes I was shielding in February due to an upcoming medical procedure which ended up being cancelled due to covid - I can't flipping wait to eventually be able to go outside

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

Pfizer aren’t releasing information on why people have had severe allergic reactions. Many people have died after having the Pfizer vaccine.

Can you expand on the many people who've died, are you saying that vaccine killed them? Do you have a proven link for that you can share?

You’re living under a rock if you haven’t heard of the following topics. You’re too lazy to research, so I’ve done it for you.

Pfizer has had MANY scandals, including mass testing an experimental drug on Nigerian children, killing them. They are also known for paying off doctors to promote their drugs.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-14493277

A healthy doctor with no health conditions developed a blood disorder that led to a brain hemorrhage which killed him. The symptoms appeared very soon after having the Pfizer vaccine. It is being investigated as his death was recent.

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2021/01/12/health/covid-vaccine-death.amp.html

33 people in Norway died shortly after having the Pfizer vaccine. Yes they were old, but so are most people who die with covid 19. The vast amount of people who died within 28 days of testing positive are elderly and/or have underlying health issues. If you subtract those who are elderly, obese, have heart issues etc then most healthy young people won’t die.

People have had severe allergic reactions:

In response to Pinknail's post above I'd like to say again that I know about 30 people who've had their vaccine. Some have had the second dose. With the exception of one person who had a mild headache, the others experienced nothing more than a sore arm.

Millions have now been vaccinated successfully. There is some irresponsible scaremongering on this thread.

Runninggirl123 · 27/01/2021 09:55

Same! Had my 2nd on monday and my temp was 38.5 yesterday, wasnt totally fine with the first and feel fine now.

Why is it scaremongering to report people who have suffered serious side effects or have died.

Is that what the yellow card scheme is all about
Or do they only want to know about people who have had no ill effects.

So because you don’t know anyone who had side effects, that means no one will? We have to disregard those who report side effects and even death? Many vaccines and medicines have severe side effects. It is about being informed. That’s why we have the yellow card scheme.

It’s not “scaremongering” to report side effects. If you want to call anyone out for scaremongering then look to the politicians and the media.

I'm on day 5 from my first Pfizer vaccine, and my arm is in agony. I have some swelling the size of a grapefruit, it's rock hard, hot to the touch and bright red. I can't lift my arm without feeling shooting pain and can't wear anything over it. It's been agony. Trying to sleep is hard as well as it's the side I'd normally lie on.

I called the GP this morning and they've said a few people have had the same. I've taken an antihistamine (no effect) and paracetamol, but nothing is touching the pain.

Anyone else having this issue?

AdditionalCharacter · 27/01/2021 18:19

Just adding, I'm CEV as on immunosuppressants, but GP didn't seem to be that bothered by that.

Never had any effects from flu jab previously

LindaEllen · 27/01/2021 18:21

My grandad is really unwell after his too. But he often gets flu like symptoms after his flu jab, so I think it's just how his body responds to vaccines.

I'm sure he'll be fine :).

buffyp · 27/01/2021 18:26

Pink nails there is a big difference between reporting side effects and unsubstantiated nonsense which you did. None of those sources prove that the Pfizer vaccine is deadly in a certain age group. You absolutely are scare mongering.

Updatemate · 27/01/2021 18:44

Not from this one, but had that from tetnus once (but had several and they didn't all do it!) And from yellow fever vaccine. It's fairly normal but really annoying! Especially when it's the side you sleep on or write with. Paracetamol, antihistamine and ibuprofen work for me.

shadypines · 27/01/2021 18:54

I appreciate you might have wanted a chat about this OP but seriously, is this a helpful thread title? Lots of people would have just read the title and ran or made assumptions.

People should really consider and reread what they write before they hit the send button.

There are enough stories out there of stupidity and misinformation without MN adding to it.

ChateauMargaux · 27/01/2021 21:42

The death rate in care homes has increased in the past two weeks from 661 to 1705. The ONS does not share whether these residents had received a vaccine. 75% of care home residents have been vaccinated since the programme began in December.

Had that the first time I had a flu jab. Most uncomfortable! Eased after a few days.
