I’ve had my second vaccine and I feel horrendous

Absolutely bloody awful. Exactly like the flu. I had no problem after my first and I’m very pro vaccine so this is not a “don’t get the vaccine” post. Just be aware you might need a day off afterwards.

Had the vaccine at 8ish last night

  • woke up around 3 with a headache
  • woke up again at 6 with severe muscle aches all over
  • fever then chills, fever then chills on and off all day
  • vertigo and the room spinning when I turn over in bed
  • appetite is fine, I’ve still been hungry
  • very sore arm (same as the first time)

I’m hoping it’s going to be gone by tomorrow morning but I’m feeeling bloody sorry for myself

So 2 days after the jab as I mentioned in my previous post I can report that so far the only side effects I have experienced are 1. Raised body temperature i generally am a hot running person and haven't worn anything heavier than a rain mac for years but this is a step up from my usual hot and have stolen the dogs cooling mat to sleep on switched off the heating and had the windows and balcony door open in addition to a fan on high running on full whilst a flannel dipped in refrigerated water is on my head but I am not feverish just hot, sweaty and gross, light vertigo for first 48 hours which has now passed and now just feel exhausted and mildly achy I felt far worse after flu jab which had me confined to bed for a week and feeling cold which with my useless immune system and medications is generally a more concerning thing than being hot. As a CEV with a proven history of being hospitalised with asymptomatic symptoms I was a bit nervous but I am pleased that I did it and would encourage others to proceed as my husband has said both of the flu jab and this one you've had a few miserable days but think how much worse getting the actual thing would be and I firmly agree

My 81 year old mum had her jab on
Monday, no ill effects whatsoever. My 74 year old stepdad has his next week.They could not be happier. In 12,weeks, what is left of their lives (which is realistically at least two decades looking at the family tree) begins again.

The first vaccine made me feel like shut. Having the 2nd in April

I had my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday afternoon. Was fine Wednesday evening and Thursday morning but about 1pm my throat started to hurt. By the time I got home from work at 4pm I had a temperature (didn't have a thermometer to check but my skin was roasting and I was shivering because I felt cold) and my muscles and joints were aching.

I went to bed at about 5pm and woke at 9pm then was sleeping again by about half 11 and I slept right though til 7.30 this morning. I felt much better this morning, no temperature or aches but my throat still hurt. Sore throat eased off as the day went on and was fine by dinner time. It all came on really quickly but passed quickly too and thankfully I slept through most of it.

Interesting to read theories about those who have had covid having a worse reaction because I had suspected covid early last year before testing was easily available. My parents haven't had covid and both had no side effects from the Pfizer vaccine except tenderness at the injection site.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/01/2021 08:13

Hope you’re feeling better now, OP.
I had my first AZ yesterday morning, and last night I suddenly felt as if I had a bad case of flu coming - shivers and shakes, I didn’t trust myself to hold a cup of tea without spilling it. No sore arm, though.

Flu like symptoms are common, according to the leaflet, but in any case I feel miles better this morning.

Dh had his first AZ a week previously - no reaction at all.

Why are so many people who have been confirmed as already being infected with covid getting the vaccine? Acquired immunity through infection is as good as, if not better than the vaccine which is not yet proven to even prevent infection or transmission.

I wonder that too. If I'd definitely been confirmed as having covid, I'd certainly not be using up a valuable dose of vaccine.
shinynewapple2021 · 30/01/2021 10:53

Everything I've read @FromEden states that there is no confirmed evidence on the length of acquired immunity: in some people this lasted several months; in others just a couple of months and other people have definitely caught it (positive tests and symptoms) on more than one occasion.

This is not correct.

At present everybody, whether they’ve had one dose of the vaccine, two doses or no doses still has to stick to the current guidance.

If those who have been vaccinated don’t do this, they’re putting everyone else at greater risk. Having been vaccinated you may still catch coronavirus, but less severely. You can still pass it on with a mild case or even be asymptomatic. You can still move the virus around by touching things, people etc and not washing your hands and maintaining social distancing.

This message needs to be clearer.

Oh, they will observe every rule, they always do. But they get their lives back in terms of being personally protected. They no longer have to worry for days after a supermarket visit. If someone gets too close on a walk it’s not a concern any more. Both incredibly fit and healthy, they nonetheless live pretty modestly anyway these days through choice. After very full lives, they are enjoying their home, locality and gardens. now they can do so without constant fear of premature death because of a chance interaction.

The number of confirmed reinfections is miniscule compared to the millions of confirmed cases. Latest research suggests immunity likely lasts years for most link

Getting a vaccine within months of infection as seems to be fairly common is such a waste. Our immune systems havent changed with this illness, it still works the same way and protects us from reinfection for the most part

Dowser · 11/02/2021 13:34

@AdditionalCharacter
Has your arm gone back to normal yet

AdditionalCharacter · 11/02/2021 14:01

More or less. Still a little tender, but I can move it now and it's not red.

Dowser · 11/02/2021 17:41

That’s good to know but very worrying all the same
Thank you

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 21/02/2021 10:17

Hi everyone. Husband and I both had our jabs last week and after 8 hours we had high temperatures and after 12 hours we both had racing heartbeats to 112. Both settled down by 10am then next day. Did anyone else experience racing heartbeats? I’m scared to have the second after that. Temperature did not put me off at all.
What happens if you don’t go back for the second? We’re both healthy and young and healthy.

bumblingbovine49 · 21/02/2021 10:32

If it is a vaccine reaction,it should be gone on 24-48 hrs. In these instances I console myself with the fact that this if I had the illness itself, I'd probably be feeling the same but for much longer and with more worrying about whether it will get worse

saraclara · 21/02/2021 10:48

I don't know where you got that from. At the moment it seems that acquired immunity is not predictable or guaranteed.

My nurse daughter, along with almost all her team on her covid ward, had has covid (useless PPE). But they were all told that they have to have the usual vaccination course, because there is no guarantee of immunity from a bout of covid, and what there is might only last for a couple of months.

NicoleKidmanSuperFan · 21/02/2021 13:10

@bumblingbovine49 was that to me ? Yes it didn’t last more than 24 hours. Settled after 12hours.

Sweetpea1532 · 23/02/2021 03:24

My 90 year old mum had no reaction after the first jab... she was just a bit tired for a day after the second...since she's in the US she had the Moderna vaccines, 4 weeks apart.
Same with my husband..no reactions whatsoever...although, he had the Pfizer vaccine ..3 weeks apart.

Naughtypenguin · 28/02/2021 16:57

I had my 2nd jab on Thursday and unlike the first feel only mildly achy and tired no dizziness, temperature, nausea or headache only my personal experience but I found the second jab much easier

Ilovemypantry · 28/02/2021 17:02

@AdditionalCharacter

I had the first one (Phyzer) yesterday and my arm was slightly sore but gradually got worse. Today I am aching all over, pulse is racing and temp is in the 38s. I had COVID in October, and I'm CEV so trying to remain calm and not read too much into it.
Apparently the side effects can be more severe if you’ve already had Covid.

How come you’ve both had your vaccines already if you’re young and healthy? Are you frontline workers?
52andblue · 28/02/2021 17:15

@Meredithgrey1

I’m not sure how useful this post is tbh. I get that you feel unwell and wish you better but the last thing we need is people looking for excuses not to be vaccinated

Don’t be silly. Stopping people discussing possible side effects is far more likely to make nervous people feel even more reticent to get the jab because they’ll assume the worst about the side effects.

Absolutely!!

I am due mine on the 5th March. I'd rather plan for 2 days help with kids (ASD) and not need it than be taken unawares
I am well used to injections as I have B12 every 3months (stings like buggery, well worth it for the effect) for pernicious anemia.
Agree that a GP is the worst for giving jabs in general a phlebotomist is best but most nurses are fine. It's the content rather than the delivery usually. I'll be interested to note my reaction if any. I'm pretty sure I had Covid mildly last March but no tests available then.

Anyway, grateful to have the chance of a vaccination and yes its very helpful to hear of people's range of side effects (and none)
ANY side effects will be better than the risk of a bad dose of Covid.

Ilovemypantry · 28/02/2021 22:28

@JellyBabiesFan

Was this the fizzer vaccine or the Cambridge one?
Fizzer 😂😂😂
