I’ve had my second vaccine and I feel horrendous

Absolutely bloody awful. Exactly like the flu. I had no problem after my first and I’m very pro vaccine so this is not a “don’t get the vaccine” post. Just be aware you might need a day off afterwards.

Had the vaccine at 8ish last night

  • woke up around 3 with a headache
  • woke up again at 6 with severe muscle aches all over
  • fever then chills, fever then chills on and off all day
  • vertigo and the room spinning when I turn over in bed
  • appetite is fine, I’ve still been hungry
  • very sore arm (same as the first time)

I’m hoping it’s going to be gone by tomorrow morning but I’m feeeling bloody sorry for myself

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

Pfizer aren’t releasing information on why people have had severe allergic reactions. Many people have died after having the Pfizer vaccine.

Can you expand on the many people who've died, are you saying that vaccine killed them? Do you have a proven link for that you can share?

Just ignore it, it’s posts like this that will get a useful thread pulled.
Tanfastic · 24/01/2021 22:37

@Stormer

Tan my comment about not reading anything sinister into it was in response to a PP saying that it’s strange that no other vaccines have such strong side effects. I don’t think they were necessarily implying something sinister either, but for the sake of lack of ambiguity...!

👍🏻

GlowingOrb · 24/01/2021 22:38

I’ve got many friends who are doctors so have been vaccinated. They have all mentioned the second shot floors you for 24 hours. I think it would really help with public acceptance to just be honest about it. People should plan for a sick day, pick something to binge watch, get your preferred sick food ready, and just go with it.

I've had the Pfizer vaccine. 1st dose few hours later had a headache and a dry mouth. Few hours after the second dose I had a dry mouth, fever, aches all over, headache, felt frozen to the bone. This lated for 24-48 hrs. It took me a few days to feel my normal self. Saying that I react pretty badly to the annual flu jab as it can cause a flare up of certain underlying conditions.
I would rather have the covid vaccine and suffer for a few days than have covid and end up being hospitalised.

Bubbletube · 24/01/2021 22:40

I’ve had the first Pfizer vaccine - mild soreness in arm, had a bit of headache and tiredness next day and then fine. The vaccine does NOT give you COVID.

Riv12345 · 24/01/2021 22:40

@MrsGulDukat
This exactly happened to me
I actually tested positive as well.
The sinus head pain was awful

ProudAuntie76 · 24/01/2021 22:41

Where I work everyone who has had Covid felt utterly crap after the initial Pfizer dose - for me it was like a mild bout of Covid - I believe this vaccine contains the virus?

No - it absolutely does NOT contain the virus.

It’s an MRNA Vaccine. It instructs your body to make the same protein that encases the coronavirus (spike protein). When your cells make a tiny piece of the protein the immune system learns how to attack it and break it down and make antibodies against it. The “instructions” are then stored in our bodies so that we can recognise the protein again should it ever enter our bodies and it will trigger the same immune response. It’s training our bodies how to recognise and fight Covid without exposing it to any active virus.

The AZ vaccine relies on existing technology. It uses an inactive adenovirus from Chimpanzees as a Trojan horse. The DNA (as opposed to the RNA) for Covid-19 is hidden inside the adenovirus. Once inside, the body makes spike proteins and again the immune system is triggered to make antibodies.

But neither vaccine contains the live virus. The U.K. is not planning on buying any that do.

Tanfastic · 24/01/2021 22:44

@Zogstart

I don’t think this would put anyone off having the vaccine. Surely anyone can realise if the vaccine makes people feel this bad, imagine how bad they would feel with full blown covid.

This!
I think it's good to be given the heads up that you may feel a bit fluey for a day or two though. I was maybe a bit naive and didn't realise it would make me feel so shit as no other vaccine has. If I'd known I would have tried to work it round a weekend.

I'm not looking forward to the second dose but wouldn't dream of not having it.

Duckswaddle · 24/01/2021 22:44

I’ve only had my first dose so far but had a really sore arm and all over body aches; lasted a day and then back to normal. I’ve heard the second dose makes people feel worse!

DenisetheMenace · 24/01/2021 22:48

You can’t get Covid from the vaccine. Any reaction can easily be treated in most cases please don’t let this post put you off being vaccinated (which I suspect is the purpose)

Mamanyt · 24/01/2021 22:51

Everyone I know who has had the second vaccine says that it is the worst, but short-lived. And those I know who have recovered from COVID-19 say, "OH, believe me, you're far better off!"

IthinkIm · 24/01/2021 22:51

I know you don't get a choice but is the Pfizer or the AZ one considered best?

Peeteea · 24/01/2021 22:56

@IDSNeighbour I totally understand, they’re never fun things to have and there’s always a chance of feeling crappy sadly but most of the time you don’t remember that if you’ve only really had childhood ones. I’m only 31 myself but I have an underlying health condition so I’m group 6 for vaccines and honestly I can’t wait.

I really do recommend the approach of stocking up and anticipating a couple of days on the sofa or in bed catching up on rest (though understand not everyone can- got a toddler myself so excited to try and rest with her tearing up and down the house 😂). Glad to hear you’ve never had flu because it’s bloody awful and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone at its worst- I’m a flu magnet and it absolutely floors me for a good couple of weeks so not excited to ever find out how bad covid is.

Hope you are taking care of your mental health as best you can, it’s been a tough year x

HunkyPunk · 24/01/2021 22:56

I’m not sure how useful this post is tbh. I get that you feel unwell and wish you better but the last thing we need is people looking for excuses not to be vaccinated

Surely better than censoring people's actual experiences because they don't fit a preferred narrative?

Bluebird74 · 24/01/2021 22:58

There are some really good, strong messages here about the benefit of the vaccines being greater than any side effects that may happen.

As someone said earlier, if you have experienced anything post vaccination, please report it via the yellow card scheme run by the MHRA: yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk/

Even if these events have already been seen in trials, and are recognised effects, the more information the regulators (and company) have on them the better. This will enable better information to be provided in the future.

indemMUND · 24/01/2021 23:02

I wonder if those having negative reactions to the vaccine having not previously had covid are reacting to the immune response because they have actually had it but been either asymptomatic or had it so mild/cold symptoms that they didn't get a test for?

oakleaffy · 24/01/2021 23:03

This.

My 81 yr old mum has had both {Not sure of the brand} but she is 100% fine.

Flu jabs {Seasonal} always make my arm ache and get itchy, but it is bearable compared to having flu.

Hepatitis B vaccine {two} and boosters made me feel nauseated, but again, infinitely better than catching Hepatitis.

I'm looking forward to Covid vaccine.

My brother {SW London} has Covid {Tested positive} at moment and is feeling horrendous.
He is far from wimpy when ill, and says a cough has really begun to develop.{6th day}

A vaccine to stop that?..Bring it on.

Debbles75 · 24/01/2021 23:04

@TheChippendenSpook a temp & body aches shouldn't be reported on the yellow card as they are side effects rather than a reaction

IDKNABYBIF22 · 24/01/2021 23:05

Sore arm, headache, fever and chills are all listed as being very common side effects of the pzifer vaccine. I've only had my first dose so far, but just had a sore arm for about 48 hours and felt a bit shivery for a few hours in the evening. Wasn't concerned as it was all listed on the leaflet I got emailed with my appointment, and I had booked it for when I has the next day off just in case I felt rubbish.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/regulatory-approval-of-pfizer-biontech-vaccine-for-covid-19/information-for-uk-recipients-on-pfizerbiontech-covid-19-vaccine#side-effects

Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people :
pain at injection site
tiredness
headache
muscle pain
chills
joint pain
fever

Mincepie5 · 24/01/2021 23:29

Feeling unwell after the Pfizer is only supposed to affect 1/100 then. Maybe it wasn’t tested on people who’ve had covid.

Serin · 24/01/2021 23:40

My MUm is 87 and sufferred no Ill effects whatsoever after the Pfizer vaccine.

I caught Covid in Oct in a healthcare setting. I was ill at the time and reacted strongly to the Pfizer vaccine, with temp of 39.5, sickness, headache and arm pain. I took 2days off work (as annual leave).
I am actually very apprehensive about having the second dose as it will be (at least) the third time my body will have encountered "covid" in one form or another.

wetasstenalady · 24/01/2021 23:44

I had the first pfizer a couple of weeks ago had high temp shivering pain and nausea. I tested positive for covid early December so my body obviously already recognises it and went to town creating a little antibody army to chase it out of town
I wouldn't call it a reaction myself just ab immune response. I've heard the second one creates worse side effects however having had covid then the vaccine I'm hoping my body doesn't get too over excited about it

Oaktree55 · 24/01/2021 23:45

This is really common with mRNA second dose if you read reports from trial participants. So much so there have been calls for more messaging that taking day off post booster might be required. Moderna apparently has the worst side effects but all good I guess it shows it’s working.

QueenPawPaws · 24/01/2021 23:49

Definitely with the shows it's working
The medication I inject weekly gives me headache, bone pain, fever, nausea, shivering for 24-48hrs. But it pushes my white cells from 0.3 to 24 in 10hrs they found in blood tests! So it reassures me when I get the side effects (even though I hate them)
