I like the idea of a ‘wellness journey’

MuddyWalk5007 · 23/01/2021 00:21

I think I need one. I’m going a bit loopy.
Comfort eating has brought me discomfort. My clothes, when I get changed into them from my ‘loungewear’ feel rather tight.
All the doom and gloom all over the internet has made me feel gloomy.

I want to feel well again.
What do I need to do? I think I could do with more yoga and soup in my life. I can start off with that. That sounds like it belongs in a ‘wellness journey’
What else can I do?

This is such a great idea. Today is the first time in a week I've hit 10k steps and I feel better for it.
Definitely need more positivity in my life at the moment.

MuddyWalk5007 · 23/01/2021 16:55

I did some yoga and met a friend for a long walk. Hit around 7k steps.
I had a healthy breakfast of mushroom omelette in a wrap, a banana then tea and biscuits.
I have realised that I need to drink more water and eat less sugar.

I feel a lot better than I have in a while thanks to all your positivity and the sunshine today. Smile
I hope everyone is having a positive day too.

muddywalk5007 thanks for starting this. It's inspiring hearing everyone's postivity and ideas for well being.

We ended up going sledging and had soooo much fun. Even the teenager! It was a perfect blue sky day in the snow. And then home to a healthy tofu stir fry with heaps of veg. House is tidy and clean and we can relax this evening after a good day.

ofwarren · 23/01/2021 18:13

@dogmandu yes, that's fine. Stops bloating for lots of people.

Icenii · 23/01/2021 18:21

No aimless scrolling through MN. Keep it for a short set time otherwise you will loose hours doing nothing.

Dowser · 23/01/2021 18:29

@Frenchblue

Very interested in this, can I just ask what’s wrong with sunflower oil etc? I thought they were ok!
I think it’s the fact that they’ve all been refined to such a state there may be very little of nutritional value upin them and in actual fact may have left them quite detrimental to our systems Cold pressed oils like Coconut and virgin olive are much better for cooking Some of the nut oils are better for salad dressings.
Dowser · 23/01/2021 18:32

@dogmandu

is it OK to go gluten free if you don't know whether you're gluten intolerant or not?
Yes of course. Gluten is not needed by the system. Go totally gf for two weeks and then take an inch of bread and see if you have a reaction

If you’re planning on asking the dr for a test you need to be eating gluten.

I had a test after a couple of gf months and of course I tested negative

Stupid me!
Kicks self

But I wasn’t going back on it just for the test

doadeer · 23/01/2021 18:32

Early night, lots of water, good skincare routine, long baths, eat lots of veg

Nods wisely. Realises that she has been on MN on and off all day. Backs out the room silently.

@Ginandshinythings

I've read all of the law of attraction books by Rhonda bryne, had all the crystals and I do totally believe that positivity attracts positivity and negativity attracts negativity. But, I did start to see it as more cult like after a year or so. One thing that stuck out from the books for me, was someone's car was stolen and instead of being annoyed, the person felt happy they had the freedom to walk to work... I was bit like hmmmm I don't think that's a natural response. It was a good distraction for me when I had crippling health anxiety, but in the end I needed professional help so not all aspects were healthy for me. I still live by the mantra positivity attracts positivity, my pininterest is full of how I imagine my future to look (realistically) I just needed to rein it in a little. There's a documentary on Netflix... Easy watch but ever so cheesy.
Yes I have some books, and I still like the secret But I do agree about stolen car Definitely stretching it too far

Lovely idea for a thread, thanks @MuddyWalk5007

So today: Messed around with acrylics this afternoon, totally lost myself for a couple of hours -very relaxing, even cleaning the paint brushes afterwards felt meditative.
Just had a long bath and cleaned my face, brushed my teeth, put clean pyjamas on. Felt like a very child like routine.
Got out for some fresh air today
Going to read a chapter in bed later - not done that for ages despite a big ‘to read’ list

Have been doing dry AND vegan January and they have started to feel like a punishment, but today have eaten lovely food and am glad I haven’t caved in (last night was hard!)

MuddyWalk5007 · 23/01/2021 20:10

@EastofEdna that sounds lovely. What did you paint?

No aimless scrolling through mn - yep noted.

@MuddyWalk5007 I got a book on acrylic techniques for xmas so I copied the cover! Really simple, graphic shapes, block colours with some geometric leaves.

I've been overhauling my life for a while
My physical and mental health was shocking and I got stuck in a negativity cycle

I document my progress on my Instagram which is all about positivity, wellness etc and follow lots of great pages which help keep me inspired

SunnyHens · 23/01/2021 21:39

Thank you for suggesting the streaks app! And thanks to the op for starting this thread. It’s refreshing! Looking forward to reading more ideas and hearing about progress. It’s a tough time and we need to be kind to ourselves. Well-being is part of that.

SingToTheSky · 23/01/2021 21:41

I’m trying to get better at doing nice things for myself. Things like playing piano and watching funny stuff, reading, taking the vitamins I’m often low on etc.

BlissLi · 23/01/2021 21:44

On the 3rd of January I hit complete rock bottom mentally and physically. I could feel myself spiralling and getting into a rut and something just clicked. Now or never, I either sorted my life out or I let myself be chucked into an endless void of negativity and depression. I wrote a list of all the things i needed to do and started them all on the 4th. I will admit some days i only manage a couple of things off the list but I'm three weeks in and feeling much better! -

Early bedtime, early wake time
OMAD diet
2 litres of water a day
Vitamins
Yoga & stretches
Pilates
Meditation
Long walks
Skincare routine
Weekly pamper day
Cleaning & organising home
No news watching
Less smoking & drinking

After reading this thread I'm really liking the idea of a daily journal, I read somewhere about people who write down 5 things they are thankful for. Any more idea of what could go into this? Also, I'm off to google affirmations and manifestations Smile

AViewFromTheWindows · 23/01/2021 21:58

Great thread. Posting to come back for ideas.

BuddhaAtSea · 23/01/2021 22:23

When I’m on holiday, I bring with me a book I’ve been meaning to read for ages, but never got around to it. So every morning I would wake up, go for a swim, sit down on a terrace in the sun with some breakfast and lots of coffee and fresh juice and read a chapter. And then mull over what I just read while sunbathing.
Last time I read this book, I recommend it. I restarted it and it really does remind me of Greece now 😂

Frownette · 23/01/2021 22:38

@hamstersarse but I've got some cold pressed rapeseed oil downstairs, what's wrong with that?

I'm here with a cup of tea and chocolate so today can't be saved, but I'll focus on 'wellness' tomorrow :)

Breathmiller · 24/01/2021 10:42

I got rid of Facebook on my phone last year. (I use it still on my laptop for my business) and it was a great decision.

Means I have been on mumsnet more but I have found many threads on here that help me in my wellbeing. Like this one. Smile
