I like the idea of a ‘wellness journey’

MuddyWalk5007 · 23/01/2021 00:21

I think I need one. I’m going a bit loopy.
Comfort eating has brought me discomfort. My clothes, when I get changed into them from my ‘loungewear’ feel rather tight.
All the doom and gloom all over the internet has made me feel gloomy.

I want to feel well again.
What do I need to do? I think I could do with more yoga and soup in my life. I can start off with that. That sounds like it belongs in a ‘wellness journey’
What else can I do?

I was a bit grumpy because I didn't get my walk in. Calls overran at lunch time; tomorrow I will get it in before I start work.

I've nicked an idea from upthread, am going to listen to some soothing music to help me fall asleep later and I will read another chapter of my book.

When I finish vegan January I will move to fasting - 16:8 which works good for me with T(wo)MAD!

dayslikethese1 · 25/01/2021 23:11

I'm really into candles, skincare and my houseplants atm Grin Also I've been trying out all my things that don't get much use; its like shopping from what you already own. Things at the back of the wardrobe, barely used eyeshadow colours, things like that. I put different things together. That way I get to experiment without spending anything Wink

MuddyWalk5007 · 26/01/2021 08:48

I’m trying very hard to eat better because it makes me feel better i the short term as well as all the long term benefits but its not easy.

Today I’m going to use a face mask (cosmetic one. Strange how I feel I need to clarify!) and a foot mask.

I’m really enjoying reading.

I started this on Sunday, I somehow just decided that enough was enough. I was diagnosed pre diabetic some years ago, and have slipped back into carbs, so I've hauled myself back onto the Keto diet again, and tried to find more time for myself. Loving this thread.

EastofEdna · 26/01/2021 10:14

Looking after myself today means:

  1. Hour's exercise this morning - I actually got up early instead of getting up really groggy at eight. I am so so happy to have moved!
  2. Enjoy the first of my last six days of being vegan
  3. Carry on trying to get a likeness of the dog so I can give the drawing to his owner - not going too well! Feel like I have ambitions beyond my capabilities, but practice practice practice....

Have a good day.

MuddyWalk5007 · 27/01/2021 10:07

Today is a bit of a struggle. I feel quite tired and lethargic but I know I need to snap out of it.
I did my yoga by I wasn’t into it and couldn’t wait for it to finish. I have work to do and need to do a food shop. I’ll try to avoid the treats and get lots of healthy fruit and veg Smile

I am finding a tick sheet in different ways really motivating.

So i put my emoji on my calender when I do my walk/run/dance/yoga/not drinking.

But also the housework app. I have always notoriously been rubbish at keeping on top of the cleaning but I get a real sense of pleasure at ticking off the tasks. And then I get a sense of pleasure at having a clean house.

I think that's the thing for me anyway. Is to give yourself tiny little cheerleader rewards and it helps us do things that we would maybe have a resistance to. But will make us feel better in the long run.

muddywalk you still did yoga today. That's a win. I always think sticking with something when you are finding it harder that day deserves a bigger pat on the back than the days its easier. So well done! 👏

merryhouse · 27/01/2021 11:15

Dowser:
I limit my use of chemicals

apart from colloidal silver, obviously...

Melange99 · 27/01/2021 11:28

I have started to keep a health diary (just a note on my iPad), and list what have I done for my health today. There's not much on it but it helps to put down the positive healthy actions even if they are minuscule.

Mine at the moment tends to consist of - listened to Stress CD twice (it's a subliminal one with talking you can't hear beneath waves), took my vitamins, did a 2 mile walk, did my physio exercises, etc

It helps me.

covetingthepreciousthings · 27/01/2021 11:49

Which app is this?

EastofEdna · 27/01/2021 13:16
  • I listened to a soundscape last night to help me sleep now I have replaced my lost headphones (don't know how I lost them when I barely go anywhere). This made me very happy, I dropped off really quickly.
  • I just walked up to the accountants rather than drive. Took a detour on the way back. I was happy to see some snowdrops and lots of moss which I love AND I saw someone picking up litter. Going to google moss.
  • it feels like daylight is stretching itself a bit further across the day so there is less of that suffocating darkness.
Breathmiller · 29/01/2021 08:09

@covetingthepreciousthings the TOMM app. I'm not sure how it is conpared to other apps as I've never done anything like that but I am finding it useful. Even dh is on board on my working days.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 08:14

I feel a bit lousy about myself as my work study slipped this week (couldn't concentrate) so I'm going to make a list of what I have got done to feel a bit better, and write a plan for study at the weekend and next week.

Also take a long walk and a nice shower, good food. That's all I can manage today Smile

Labobo · 29/01/2021 08:22

OP I did one for a year a few years ago and it was one of the best things I've ever done.

Add 2l water a day (can be tisanes or water infused with fresh mint and lime etc,
Add vitamins and any other supplements you might need (iron, tyrosine etc)
Spend 30 mins outside whatever the weather - can be walking or just finding a sunny spot
meditate for 5-15 mins a day
affirmations for 5-15 mins a day
yoga for 10 mins a day
HIIT for 5-8 mins a day
journalling
Eat good food. You know what this is for you. For some people it's mainly keto, for others it's vegan or wholegrain. We all know which foods make our bodies feel good. Eat more of them.

It's fun to add a bit of daily self-care too - painting your nails or shaping brows etc.

And to add some daily fun - putting on dance music or watching an episode from a favourite comedy box set. Or do something new - anything - walk down a street you don't know, cook a new soup recipe, try a new yoga stretch etc.

MuddyWalk5007 · 29/01/2021 08:45

I’ve kept up with the daily yoga and reading but have struggled with other things.
For today, I’m prioritising water. I seem to forget to drink water. I’m sure it will help with the snacking. So water and fruit for snacks.

I’m about to chop up veg for soup. That’s another thing I’ve learnt. If I get a healthy lunch prepared early, I’m less likely to eat a cheese sandwich.

Morning

Hurrah for Friday. This weekend is my last weekend of being vegan and alcohol free. I have some lovely recipes to take forward and reduce my animal product consumption. All good; I feel lighter and less overall achy.

Today's wellness activities

  1. WS - Sonnet 1 read out loud. Felt like I was back at school and good memories of reading the Merchant of Venice out loud. The plan is for one a day (idea snaffled from a Guardian list of 50 activities)
  2. As pp, keeping hydrated. My local co-op must be wondering who is buying all their blood orange tonic water!
  3. 20 min meditation
Frownette · 29/01/2021 10:46

Blood orange tonic water...that sounds nice

BlissLi · 29/01/2021 13:55

Wasn't feeling motivated or positive yesterday so I did the bare minimal. I did managed to stick to my diet and have a nice hot bath. Feeling a bit more productive today. Hope everyone else is well Smile

Sometimesonly · 29/01/2021 15:13

Doesn't a cheese sandwich count as healthy? Blush

I haven't kept up with the yoga but have been a for a few really long walks this week.

MuddyWalk5007 · 29/01/2021 16:25

I’m sure a cheese sandwich is fine but not the amount I eat and trying to lose weight. And I would want to eat it quickly so wouldn’t even bother with any salad or veg.

I haven’t been out for a walk all week and I’m really feeling it today.

Great thread OP

The biggest improvement I have seen in my life is due to my dogs. I have to walk every morning come rain or shine. It's never a chore. I get fresh air, daylight and movement before having to do anything else in the day.

Vitamin D and water

I've taken social media off my phone so no mindless scrolling

No technology in the bedroom

Audiobooks and funny podcasts have helped my mood

Running is my real therapy Smile

Oh and sleep! That's a big deal, prioritising sleep and seeing it as important as air and water. We'd die without it and yet I was treating it as an afterthought once everything else is done.

Sorry about spelling and grammar here!

kitschplease · 30/01/2021 06:52

I feel much better this weekend compared to last, thanks to a week of more water, vitamins, short walk or yoga sesh, fewer snacks, no booze and not eating after 6pm.

I can't get on with meditation though- tried a couple of apps but every session makes me drift off to sleep 🤣

BlissLi · 30/01/2021 12:22

I've spent the morning attempting to do as much of my to do list as I can. I don't know what's so satisfying about being able to tick them off Grin yoga has gone out of the window this week but if I'm honest I don't care. There's always next week, sometimes waking up and existing is more than enough for one day and that's fine. Smile

CorianderBee · 30/01/2021 12:23

Green tea, super veg smoothie on a morning, cut out sugar and caffeine, do yoga, go for walks outside, write down your feelings each day.

DenisetheMenace · 30/01/2021 12:23

Perfectly sound idea but please, please don’t call it “a journey” 🥴
