I like the idea of a ‘wellness journey’

MuddyWalk5007 · 23/01/2021 00:21

I think I need one. I’m going a bit loopy.
Comfort eating has brought me discomfort. My clothes, when I get changed into them from my ‘loungewear’ feel rather tight.
All the doom and gloom all over the internet has made me feel gloomy.

I want to feel well again.
What do I need to do? I think I could do with more yoga and soup in my life. I can start off with that. That sounds like it belongs in a ‘wellness journey’
What else can I do?
@Dowser
Be careful of falling prey to the idea that ‘natural’ = good and ‘chemical’ = bad. It’s a massive and incorrect assumption.

The vitamin and mineral supplements you’re taking to promote good health are synthetically produced chemicals.

The cyanide in cherries & apple pips is 100% natural, but a deadly toxin at the right dose.
So how do you suggest we get the Vit d3 we need in winter
We take our sunshine holidays in March, October and December but December we never made it back to Tenerife as the company doing the pcr test lost mine and we couldn’t travel without it.
I try to get as many of my vits and mins from food and herbs as possible but as we all now our food is greatly depleted.
Breakfast we have a bowl of everything in gluten free muesli. Loads of pumpkin, sunflower, chia seeds, all the different nuts, almonds, walnuts, brazils, pecans, a bit of dried fruit , coconut milk and topped with fresh blueberries, black grapes and blackberries, oh and gluten free oats

Lunch is often a home made veg soup, like butternut squash carrot and onion
Dinner some protein, veg and some carb, sweet potato or brown rice..occasionally hassle back potatoes.

So we do try to eat a good diet but whether it’s nutritionally lacking I don’t know.

Love this thread. Just posting to add to my threads and going to catch up with everyone's inspiring ideas later.

I am also on a wellbeing path at the moment. Kicking lots of bad habits out and filling up with lots of good ones.

Mine are..

Yoga and meditation (i do this anyway- but it must include at least one sun salutation which i often avoid)
Doing the Paul McKenna hypnosis daily for eating well.
I have started an app for keeping on top of my house cleaning.

Doing some diy in the house and clearing out crap.
I stopped drinking nearly 6 months ago.
A walk/run every day.
A dance burst song every day (throw any song on and dance! - this genuinely is my new favourite)
I'm vegan and gluten free anyway but I want to get a hold on my sugar intake. It makes me feel shit.
A daily gratitude practice.

I downloaded Spotify a few months ago and I love listening to music and podcasts.
Lighting a few candles at night, switching off the telly and listening to music while mumsnetting or doing an oine jigsaw.
Reading fiction again for pleasure.
Switching off my phone and enjoying a movie with no distractions with family.

Keeping in touch with friends.

Getting outside even on the rubbish days, like a pp even for a moment. It's refreshing.

Going to read over all yours now.

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 23/01/2021 10:38

@Breathmiller What cleaning app do you use? I need something like this!

Ihatesandwiches · 23/01/2021 10:47

Great thread, thanks for starting it, OP. I really need to start some sort of well being journey. I received a journal for Christmas and I have started writing a positive affirmation for each day in it but I need to begin actually doing something about my general health. Just rewritten my supermarket list and added fruit and veg to. It!

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/01/2021 10:48

What a great thread, placemarking, as I also feel like a hunched up goblin to quote a PP.

Sometimesonly · 23/01/2021 11:04

Something I did during lockdown but for some reason stopped is getting a box of fruit and veg from our local greengrocer. I sometimes complained about the contents but we did eat it all and ended up eating more fruit and vegetables as a result.

Breathmiller · 23/01/2021 11:16

@whereDoMyBluebirdsFly i do the TOMM app. (I hate the name- it's not just for bloody mums)

It does take longer than the times she suggests but it does give a focus.

So it has daily tasks then takes a focus of a different room each day during the week (weekends are just the daily tasks) .

It's supposed to be 15 minutes for the daily and half an hour for the focus rooms but that's rubbish i think.

My dd (adult dd in a different house) and I just set a timer and ran off to do them and both couldn't get it done in 15 minutes.

But it is getting easier. And definitely helps me stay focused. I imagine it gets easier as you keep on top of it. Especially the half hour focused rooms.

My house after just one week feels soooo much cleaner. And dh is on board too now.

WhereDoMyBluebirdsFly · 23/01/2021 11:19

Thanks Breathmiller I will check that out!

Breathmiller · 23/01/2021 11:20

I've also been adding an emoji to my phone calender every day. It helps me to get that good feeling of a wee star on my wall chart. Grin
⭐ for not drinking
☀️ sun salutation
🚶‍♀️ at least a 20 minute walk/run
💃 dance burst song.

I've realised i like seeing them adding up so haven't missed a day of each one since I started.

Lookingforwardto2021 · 23/01/2021 11:42

@Bubbles1st

I highly recommended a manifestation diary! I honestly believe it changed my life.
What is a manifestation diary and how did it change your life?
murbblurb · 23/01/2021 11:46

go for a walk. Do some exercise. Eat less crap. Process your food less (apart from cooking of course) - no smoothies for example unless you have teeth/swallow issues. Eat a varied diet with seasonal veg that hasn't come halfway round the planet.

drink water. If you are in the UK it comes out of the tap for a low cost, no need to fuck up the planet with the bottled stuff. Yes, take vitamin D due to our latitude.

read a good book. Indulge in feelgood movies or tv. Don't read instagram or women's magazines. Minimise anything in your life aimed at women.

don't worry about appearance beyond being clean and tidy.

Standrewsschool · 23/01/2021 11:50

Reading - escapism from the modern world

Calm - relaxing app,

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/01/2021 11:55

Nice thread.

I am trying to:

 • have a dance with 1kg weights 3 times a day to three cheesy pop songs
 • have a walk every day, even if it's only for half an hour
 • be much better at using moisturiser morning and night and hand cream when ever I think of it
 • do a neck/shoulders yoga session at least every other day
Lookingforwardto2021 · 23/01/2021 12:04

Great idea. I would like do do this with my wall calendar...I would love some little reusable emoji stick-ons

I am doing dry Jan with Dh and I feel his skin looks more even and he says my face doesn’t look puffy. And we weren’t big drinkers to start with!

Lookingforwardto2021 · 23/01/2021 12:26

Oops sorry @Bubbles1st, I see you have already explained. Would you mind sharing what manifestation dairy you bought? There seem to loads out there. Thanks!

To the pp regarding veg and seed oils. We only use first cold pressed oils. And most of these are unstable at higher heats (eg for sautéing). We use eg, extra virgin walnut oil and olive oil for drizzling on top of food and extra virgin coconut oil, sesame oil or avocado oil for cooking. Along with butter and ghee. Usually I steam foods or cook in a little liquid and add oil after cooking.

Of all the changes to our diet, cutting down on gluten and changing the way we use oil has had the most effect, I think

JovialNickname · 23/01/2021 12:30

What a great idea, can I join too?

I have recently started meditation, with the 30 day (10 minutes a day) course on the Calm app. I'm finding I'm really enjoying it and it's improving my mood and focus.

Loving all the suggestions on here!

Bubbles1st · 23/01/2021 12:31

@Lookingforwardto2021
There are loads out there!

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Unlock-Magic-Manifesting-manifestation-co-create/dp/1916114784/ref=mpssa111?dchild=1&keywords=28+manifesting+journal&qid=1611404865&sr=8-1

This is the one I got an I followed her page on Facebook and watched several of her videos reinforcing the principles and a lot just clicked for me.

The main thing for me was getting over overwhelm. If so much is going on you feel in a constant state of overwhelm whether it's house work, work/business, diy, weight issues, exercise, children and other negative thoughts, then how can you expect more to come into your life even if it's good.

You don't have space for it.

kitschplease · 23/01/2021 12:33

I've added yoga, water and vits D and K, but could be more consistent. I've also been reading more fiction. I want to add in getting outside every day and trying the calm app, so will join you on this journey.

sleepwhenidie · 23/01/2021 12:36

@Anotherdates

Lots of water. I’ve started buying bottles of it fun a bit of lockdown fun. I recommend it, feels nice!
Jesus..buying bottles of water constitutes fun now Confused
NoJetter · 23/01/2021 12:45

Great thread, I’d like to join you too!

I’ve been eating healthily since 2nd Jan. Mainly just having 3 healthy meals a day, trying to snack less and cutting out all the crap I was eating. I’ve lost 4kg already and feeling much better already.

I had a slipped disc from June - December and could hardly walk and barely left the house. I had surgery in December and can now walk so I’m building up my strength by walking. I’m so enjoying the fresh air and being outside after being stuck in the house for 6 months.

I am aiming to lose weight for my health generally as the path I was going down was setting me up for ill health down the line but my main aim really is to be and feel healthy. I can’t do any exercise yet but walking is really helping so far.

PumpkinWitch · 23/01/2021 12:49

I am doing yoga with Adriene’s 30 days of yoga. You get a new video every day. There is a thread about it on here.

I have also cut out chocolate which I love and am trying to make healthier meals. Another thing that helps is going outside every day for a walk (I don’t really have a choice about this as my toddler would go nuts if we didn’t).

If you struggle to motivate yourself to read book being in a book group really helps motivate you to read. I find that I have been reading more since I downloaded the Kindle reading app on my phone. I read a book when I would have been doom scrolling.

umpteennamechanges · 23/01/2021 12:57

I have really let things slide over the past few months...I'm going to make a few changes; wait until that feels normal and then layer in more changes.

This coming week I am:

 • Getting up earlier
 • Getting showered and dressed every day
 • Doing yoga twice a week via Adrienne on YouTube
 • Meeting a friend for a morning walk with her dog twice a week
 • Adding extra fruit and Greek yoghurt, reducing processed carbs a bit
umpteennamechanges · 23/01/2021 12:58

@Sometimesonly

I'll give streaks a go!

Might need to go old style tick chart on the kitchen cupboard for adults though Blush

AliceBlueGown · 23/01/2021 13:30

Walking every day - have decided to make it a priority (which I never have before). Doing something creative - crocheting a blanket (easy pattern and lovely colours). Following Attic24 - I'm not very good but it doesn't matter I'm just enjoying it (also stops me snacking).

dogmandu · 23/01/2021 14:17

is it OK to go gluten free if you don't know whether you're gluten intolerant or not?
