I like the idea of a ‘wellness journey’

MuddyWalk5007 · 23/01/2021 00:21

I think I need one. I’m going a bit loopy.
Comfort eating has brought me discomfort. My clothes, when I get changed into them from my ‘loungewear’ feel rather tight.
All the doom and gloom all over the internet has made me feel gloomy.

I want to feel well again.
What do I need to do? I think I could do with more yoga and soup in my life. I can start off with that. That sounds like it belongs in a ‘wellness journey’
What else can I do?

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl my days are a mixture of chaos and calm. I'm trying to build in as much calm as I can to better equip me for the chaos!

Yesterday was more baking, more gardening, lots more lovely sunshine, playing in the garden after school and reading more of my book.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 17/03/2021 11:40

Building in calm sounds like a plan @MischiefManager Grin

I had my job interview earlier, liked the people, just not sure they thought I was right for the role... it involves ad hoc work throughout the day and would be perfect if my DC were a bit older and could be left on their own for short periods of time, but I'm not convinced I could work it with small DC who have (for example) set times for school drop off and pick up, after school activities etc. So I won't be gutted if I don't get it, but it would have suited me down to the ground if my DC were 11 or older and/ or I had family nearby who could look after the DC at short notice. (We do have PIL nearby, but they are quite elderly and I don't like to rely on them too much, as the DC are hard work!).

Oh and the interview had to take place outside on park benches as of course there's nowhere to go... I'm still warming up now!!

Pancakeorcrepe · 17/03/2021 12:50

This is such a fabulous thread!

EastofEdna · 17/03/2021 13:25

@Pancakeorcrepe - it is isn't it? @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl lol, good interview practise at least.

I have had a lovely day already, jab done and am back home.

I received a lovely bunch of flowers and a card today from one of my teams. I had organised a teams social for us all a couple of weeks ago, I sent them a Just Eat voucher so we sat and ate, drank and gossiped for a couple of hours with some food, just nice and casual. We used to go out to celebrate regularly when we had completed a big delivery so it was good, I'll miss that team particularly when I finish.

I think I've done my wellbeing tasks for today

  1. Planned what I need to do to sort out my books - I have hundreds of them but am loathe to part with any of them and nowhere to store them as I got rid of the bookcases when I decorated my room.
  2. Updated finances to work out how long I can be off work after May.
  3. Planning to eat mindfully all day; I have done so far.

Have a lovely rest of the day

MischiefManager · 18/03/2021 07:19

More baking, gardening and sunshine yesterday, a full days work again, another loss on the scales, happy children, messaged friends I'm missing, tried to practice a bit of mindfulness.

Still scrolling social media mindlessly - it seems to be a hard habit to break so need to work harder on that. Not managing much exercise either. Really want to build on time for running, yoga and also a bit of meditation. Need to find a way to swap the scrolling for the good stuff where I can!

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 18/03/2021 22:57

I find that a tricky habit to break too @MischiefManager! I think the phrase is "chewing gum for the mind" - it's too easy to pick up my phone, scroll for a while and lose track of time Blush

I did plenty of steps today as I met a friend for a walk (rather than our usual chat in a coffee shop!), managed a quick HIIT workout as well. I'd still like to add in a yoga session maybe other day, my flexibility definitely needs some work!

DS1 is massively keen on cycling at the moment and would love us to go cycling more as a family; DS2 is still on stabilisers but that's ok, he's just not quite as fast. I am not massively keen on cycling (and in fact am off to look for advice on the Exercise board!), don't even own a bike, but am keen to lose weight and for us all to do more exercise, so I'm prepared to give it a try. DP (who is very overweight) refuses to even consider it Confused

EastofEdna · 19/03/2021 12:20

Morning (still!)

I have had 2 days worth of being knackered post jab but am just about feeling better today.

Anyway:

  1. Lots of water today
  2. It's sunny, I will go outside and get some fresh air, my steps have been severely lacking this week
  3. I am glad it's almost the weekend, time for a reset, walks, maybe a run and a good book.
ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 19/03/2021 21:44

@EastofEdna hope you continued your recovery today! I haven't been called for my jab yet, I'll definitely book it when I am, but am worried about any side effects. Partly because I have multiple allergies and partly because it's really difficult being ill with small DC around, there's no let up!! I'd have to book it for a Friday and arrange for DP to take over whilst I stay in bed if needed or just tell him that I need to and have a lovely peaceful weekend

This weekend's weather is supposed to be cloudy but ok, plenty of walking/ cycling planned with the DC. Must charge my Fitbit up, if it doesn't count my steps I'll be most miffed!

MischiefManager · 20/03/2021 07:12

@EastofEdna glad you are feeling a bit better.

I think I was a bit better about the social media scrolling yesterday and only really went on for work stuff until the evening. Really need to keep working on breaking that habit. Think I'll really make that my big focus this next week.

Other than that,
I've managed a couple of really good nights sleep thanks to youngest daughter.
Not eaten great but not stuffed my face either so I'm managing to be more mindful when I'm eating.
Started a free five day online course about mindfulness which is really good so far.
Managing to get plenty of outdoor time.
Practicing daily gratitude is feeling really good.
Bumped into a really good friend I'm missing a lot yesterday and had a brief chat. Can't wait to meet up properly again!
Been really tired in the evenings so I've let a few things slide this week. Need to eat and drink better to sort that I think so will meal plan for next week to try and improve that.

bjjgirl · 20/03/2021 08:47

Try to spend time by open water and trees, good for the soul.

Find a sport you love and go all in, open water swimming? Paddle boarding? Martial arts?

Try to eat protein and vitamins, think what is this food doing for me

Keep a journal, reflect how you feel with what you are/ did and reflect

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 20/03/2021 22:17

@MischiefManager I think we have similar aims; more outdoor time now the weather is improving, less time on aimless scrolling, and meal plan!! I am terrible at the last of those, always mean to try it but frankly can't get my head round it Blush I know it's not that difficult and I could definitely do it - I just can't get started!

Took the DC out to the park today - DP decided he was "too tired" and stayed at home - we had a good two hours outside and I got to chat to a friend who lives nearby. Then there were no complaints from the DC at bedtime, win win!!

MischiefManager · 21/03/2021 08:59

That sounds great @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl
I think I did better with the scrolling yesterday and we had a tv free day too.
Put the new poly tunnel together ready for lots more seed sowing and planting.
Decided to make more of our breakfasts and evening meals together so have started to make the effort to set the table nicely and have flowers and candles.
Decluttered my bedroom on the surface, not delved into drawers and wardrobes yet.
Sold more of our lovely eggs, we seem to have pretty regular customers for them now.
Lovely hot bath last night.

Hoping to get some decluttering, reading and crocheting done today. Have a great day everyone Smile

MischiefManager · 22/03/2021 08:05

Managed gardening, reading and decluttering but no crochet yesterday so will try and get a bit of that done today. Back to scrolling through SM yesterday so I'm going to work really hard on that. Tv was only on for an hour for line of duty yesterday though so that something. Lost a bit more weight too so that feels good Smile

MuddyWalk5007 · 22/03/2021 10:08

Lovely to see this thread going.
I’m coasting along at the moment with some highs and some lows.

I’ve got more work now so I’m busy and distracted but it also means I need to make time to do the things that make me feel better.

Things I’ve started to do -
Do OMAD (one meal a day) Mon, Wed and Fri
Taking some vitamin supplements.
Long walks outside 3 times a week. Short indoor ‘walks’ onthe other days.
Moisturising.

I have to face the fact that my diet has a bigger impact on my well being more than anything else. It’s so hard though Sad
I’m hoping that OMAD will help me.

My “wellness journey” started in the first lockdown. My spur was vanity 😂 so I started off by just doing loads of beauty treatments at home. Tan, hair conditioning treatments, pedicures, etc. I wrote out a morning and evening skincare routine and stuck to it.

Then that spread into walking, meditation, journaling, prayer and mindfulness. And salad, soups and clean eating.

I’ve slacked off a bit now but I think I’ll take it up again as I really did feel absolutely brilliant.

EastofEdna · 22/03/2021 12:43

Morning all!

A weekend of walking, some running and being out in the fresh air made me so happy.

Today, some meditation, a bit of yoga shortly and Unforgotten is on tonight.

Have a good day.

LadyCatStark · 22/03/2021 14:25

@Sometimesonly

I have started using an app called Streaks on my phone - free in a limited version. It lets you tick off when you do something each day and tells you how long a "streak" you have - so how many days you have gone without missing a day. I actually find it really handy to persuade myself to do simple, but good for me, things. Might be useful! At the moment I have
  • do some yoga
  • take vitamins
  • floss teeth properly before brushing (if I am tired I don't bother and my gums suffer!)
  • read
  • moisturize
OMG thanks, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I’m so competitive with myself, I won’t let myself miss a day 😂

The main things I do to improve my mood are that I’ve started running and taking a supermarket version of berocca.

MischiefManager · 22/03/2021 18:13

@ThatOtherPoster that sounds amazing!

ThatOtherPoster · 22/03/2021 19:36

@MischiefManager - thanks! It really was, while I did it. I couldn’t understand why everyone was moaning about lockdown etc as I was walking on air! 😆

Thanks for giving me they incentive to restart things. I’ve honestly let most of it go and wondered why I felt so miserable! I’ll restart it.

MischiefManager · 23/03/2021 08:08

Garden, sunshine, baking, reading, flicking through my favourite magazine, yoga, long hot shower, favourite scented moisturiser, candles, another small loss on the scales Smile

Have a great day everyone Smile

EastofEdna · 23/03/2021 11:18

Yesterday was a good day, I managed in ten minute bursts to:

  1. meditate - I've finally settled on a place
  2. 3 mini yoga sessions (1 x head and neck, 1 x seated, 1 x standing)
  3. write/translate
  4. draw
  5. give my face a good clean/moisturise
  6. plan today's meals

The scales have also (finally) moved.

Today I will start Week 8 of the 0 to 10K.

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 23/03/2021 22:47

I've been a bit stressed job hunting this week, must do more enjoyable stuff too! I haven't heard back from the interview I had last week (even though they assured me I would hear within a few days!), I'm assuming it's a no but it would be nice to know...

@MischiefManager we have a concrete bit of our garden which I'm keen to put some gardening it on as our neighbour is trying to encroach on it Angry I was looking at some vegetable trugs but they're very expensive, especially as I'd probably need 4! If you have any tips about something else I could utilise that would be handy...

Done loads of cooking today, but it also means lots of washing up. Thank goodness for the dishwasher!!

MischiefManager · 24/03/2021 07:57

@ClaraTheImpossibleGirl do you need them to be off the floor. B&Q do a very reasonably priced raised bed kit that you can buy liners for, you might just have to make them double height depending on what your growing. There's definitely cheaper options that that, just depends what you want to grow really.

One of the more chaotic days yesterday so was more survival than anything else. I wasn't feeling 100% either which didn't help. Managed some crochet, reading, hot shower and mini pamper, a little bit of decluttering and another small loss on the scales though Smile

ClaraTheImpossibleGirl · 24/03/2021 11:02

I'd prefer them to be raised up @MischiefManager as I'd just find it easier on my back than kneeling down to do everything... I'm looking at all sorts of options to make it as cheap but taking up loads of space and being vaguely useful too. I'd buy a cheap climbing frame for the DC but as the floor is concrete that probably wouldn't be the best idea! Maybe a large shed (cheap/ free via Marketplace etc) and some trugs or planters would do the trick...

Well done on your scales loss Smile I'm about to meet a friend for a walk and add to my step count! School holidays next week here so it'll be manic. I've applied for a couple of jobs and seen a couple more in schools, but even the really casual schools positions (zero hours) require an enormous application form to be completed, which is disappointing - I just really don't think such a huge form is necessary!

EastofEdna · 25/03/2021 13:53

another small loss for me today, two days on the run is unheard of.

I am cracking on with my yoga and meditation and added a little bit of weights in the mix and getting on the exercise bike for 40 mins every other day - it's very noisy! IF-ing is going OK, feel like I am in a consistent groove at the moment.

It is keeping me sane in the midst of some work nonsense!

Waves to everyone, have a good day
