How far from your birthplace do you now live?

Chatting at work today and it came to light that of the 5 of us, 3 still live in the same town as they were born in.

I moved a lot as a child and (having used a distance calculator) have worked out I live 445miles from where I was born.

I live in the same small town I was born in 5 minutes from my mum’s and dh is from the same town and we across the road from dmil/dfil. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

I know a few people age 60+ who live less than 5 miles away from birthplace. ILs can't live more than 2 miles away from their birthplaces.

440 miles from where I grew up.. The furthest away I lived was 638 miles, in mainland Europe. My 23 year old daughter lives 230 miles away from us, although currently living with us during lockdown.

I don’t think I’d like to have lived in the same place all my life. To never have moved about or never really experienced living in different places.

There are still people I went to school with, who never left, but I think a lot of it is a mix between opportunities and life choices. However apart from five years living in Europe, I’ve lived in the south east of England 15/16 years now, having been brought up in glasgow.

Fifty two now, I can’t see myself going back to Scotland, but will likely move again after retirement.

Oops, no actually that's 25km and 1365km.

Currently 1 mile from house I was born in. For many years I lived 2500 miles away and when I returned to the Uk I could think of no other place I would rather be than near my elderly parents who still live in the house where I was born. My youngest child was also born in the same house, I love the sense of connection and will be bereft if/when my parents sell that house.

Dh and I both live a mile from the village we grew up in. Houses there are eye wateringly high . By moving to the next town we could easily afford to buy our own house.

I still live there - in fact my mum is still living in the home my parents moved into 3 years before I was born it is nice to still be able to visit the home I was brought up in (30 now!)
