Chatting at work today and it came to light that of the 5 of us, 3 still live in the same town as they were born in.

I moved a lot as a child and (having used a distance calculator) have worked out I live 445miles from where I was born.

This is the one I used if you're interested in working your's out. www.distancecalculator.net/

UselessTrees · 18/01/2021 20:30

Currently 0.49 miles from where the maternity hospital was at the time! Have lived significantly further away, though.

SimonJT · 18/01/2021 20:31

About 3,800 miles

mellongoose · 18/01/2021 20:32

405 miles. DH born 5 mins up the road. His mum still lives in the same house.

BillyAndTheSillies · 18/01/2021 20:32

3 miles.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 18/01/2021 20:32

124 miles by the usual route. Probably around 100 as the crow flies. Have lived in a couple of different continents and a few countries but have been settled here for over a decade now.

Deadringer · 18/01/2021 20:32

My dh and i both live about 1 km from our childhood homes. Our mums both still live there.

ItStartedWithAKiss241 · 18/01/2021 20:33

I work at the hospital I was born in- and two of my children were born there too x 😂😂

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 18/01/2021 20:33

5500 miles

Mintjulia · 18/01/2021 20:33

About 30 miles. Smile

Went to London to study, then Canada & Paris with work, still came home.

Umbongoumbongo999 · 18/01/2021 20:33

1.1 miles, and DH is 1.3 miles. That's a bit sad isn't it? Our kids went to the same primary where we went as children.

I moved for uni and came back, DH has never left. One day we will move away from here when the kids are at uni/flown the nest.

I would very much like to be close enough to visit but not close enough for my mother to call round every weekend! I know its selfish but I also don't want to be the only one around to look after our parents if/when they become old and infirm.

I know a lot of people that have basically sacrificed the freedom of their child free years looking after their parents.

I would like to live in a city, where there is more going on in terms of arts and culture

EileenGC · 18/01/2021 20:34

1075 miles

jmh740 · 18/01/2021 20:35

I was born in Leeds, mum remarried when I was 6 we moved about 40 miles away to lancashire and have lived here since. Oh was born in Wales as his dad was working there brought up in the Scottish Highlands and now live almost 400 miles away

Bloodybridget · 18/01/2021 20:35

No more than 10 miles, I guess. I have made my way from south to north London.

MaverickDanger · 18/01/2021 20:36

Currently 150 miles but until recently was 6800 and 5600 respectively.

DH is currently 9100 miles away from where he grew up, but “only” 6000 from where he was born.

snowone · 18/01/2021 20:36

About 4/5 miles away from the hospital I was born in 🙈

happymummy12345 · 18/01/2021 20:37

About 250 or so. Couldn't be happier to live where I live now. I love that it's my home and always will be

RumHoney · 18/01/2021 20:37

104 miles, but I now live closer to the rest of my family than I did when I was born - my parents moved away when they were first married then headed back closer to where they were originally from later in my childhood.

namesnamesnamesnames · 18/01/2021 20:37

I live 2 miles away from the place I grew up, the hospital I was born in is about 8 miles away.

Twospaniels · 18/01/2021 20:38

80 miles from where I was born and brought up. Parents still live in the same house they bought in 1960.

Husband lives 287 miles from where he was born. He has no family there now.

PurBal · 18/01/2021 20:38

@Everythingscominguproses this 😂

Rainbowandscarlett · 18/01/2021 20:38

134 miles
I moved in with my partner and escaped my toxic family-they sort of know where I moved to but not the address
In fact my mother seems to think I live in the town along from where I do live

Funkypickle · 18/01/2021 20:38

3560 miles or 5729 km

Orangesarenottheonlyfruit · 18/01/2021 20:38

0.5 mile from the maternity hospital where I was born. 1 mile from my secondary and 6 miles from my primary.
I did live at the other end of the country at one point but came back because my Dad was ill.
I really really regret not staying away and forging a different path.

DaysAreGettingLongerNow · 18/01/2021 20:39

10,281 miles apparently.

Not sure what I was thinking but it’s done now Grin

I wouldn’t change it but I do see how many of my school friends have been in constant face-to-face contact over the 30 years since we finished school and I think it would have been so nice. But I’d have been pining to see the world. So no regrets.
