As if the world doesn't have enough to deal with without him inciting that sort of thing.

It's not so much what the protesters have done which is shocking, it's the fact the president is inciting and encouraging them.

@TheSultanofPingu

Wonder if his buddy Nigel Farage, who turned up at one of his rallies will have anything to say on the matter.
He already has done - he condemned it.
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/01/2021 09:08

Even Priti Patel has condemned Trump!

Even Priti Patel has condemned Trump!
Shes got a nerve

@SimonJT

I think someone is possibly in denial because these were white people.
Absolutely.

If the protesters were black it would have been a whole different outcome.

longwayoff · 07/01/2021 09:32

Farage will say anything. A few weeks ago Trump was "the bravest man I've ever met". Ffs. Very glad he put 10k on Trump to winGrin and now he plans to reinvent himself as a financial advisor GrinGrinGrin

wowfudge · 07/01/2021 09:34

There's footage on the Washington Post website that shows these people did not, "just walk in". They attacked the police and security guards who were behind the barriers. I've no doubt that some of those who entered the building were not involved in that and just walked in behind them, but let's not pretend this was a peaceful protest.

wowfudge · 07/01/2021 09:35

@longwayoff - he's got a new party called Reform UK. God only knows what that's about.

wowfudge · 07/01/2021 09:35

Actually it's probably just the new name for the same old shit.

Blacktothepink · 07/01/2021 09:37

stamford No looting? Does being white and smiling for the cameras mean it’s not looting?

Yes, wowfudge, there he was, fully expecting to be embraced by General Trump's (oh how Donnie yearns for one of those uniforms to strut about in. Soooooo much Gold Braid. Lovely) America and handed a lucrative job. Now he's scraping around for pennies and new minorities to persecute. I expect he'll find some bitter and twisted supporters somewhere. Heard some Brexiters on radio demanding he be given a peerage for his contribution to politics.Grin

merrymouse · 07/01/2021 10:10

@Clawdy

Four dead. Will they become Trump martyrs? I can see him using those deaths, when in reality he is responsible for them.
The entire Republican Party is responsible. If they honestly believed that there had been voter fraud they wouldn’t have delegated responsibility to Jenna Ellis et al. Nobody thinks less of Trump’s base than the Republican Party.
HypocrisyDoubleStandardsMess · 07/01/2021 10:23

@Miljea

FGS- is this such a big deal? A bunch of crazies get to run around a building for a bit.

I am in no way downplaying what I've read about someone being shot and being in ICU.

But this is hardly a coup by international standards, is it?

C'mon, let's call them what they are. Altogether now... Thugs, Terrorists.

Not crazies, not mentally ill.

VaggieMight · 07/01/2021 10:23

Even Priti Patel has condemned Trump!

I despise her and the things she does, but I believe that even the most right wing politicians believe in the political process (it's pretty good at keeping them in power), what Trump stands for isn't political, it's egotistical and crazy. His actions will inspire a wave of domestic terrorism.

PicsInRed · 07/01/2021 10:27

Nobody can truly believe at this point that he is fit to hold the office of President, but what is the safest way to get through the next two weeks?

What we should have done from the start - ignore him whilst remaining at the ready for public disorder and containing the damage until he leaves. Attention - including bad attention - is just giving it oxygen.

Let his followers vent, but give them no attention. The more he and they are mocked, the more they tantrum, the more attention they get, the more they act out.

There's a Scottish comedian who summed this up perfectly, we should have treated Trump (and his followers) the same as you treat a ranty drunk in a pub, listen politely for a few minutes, then put a hand on their shoulder and wish them a good evening.

Is that you John Terry?

merrymouse · 07/01/2021 13:45

In that case they're behaving exactly like the peaceful protesters all last year.

If you think any kind of 'whataboutism' is relevant here, you really, really haven't understood what is going on.

These protestors have been conned and people have died and it is all at the instigation of the American President.

Do you think Ted Cruz really believes the electoral fraud stories? Do you not think that somebody who went to Princeton and Harvard Law and clerked for the Supreme Court could find somebody more competent than Jenna Ellis if he really thought an election had been stolen?

Have you not noticed that there is nothing more to Trump's claims than conspiracy theories on social media? That it is all smoke and mirrors? Meanwhile the Trump family hide behind their security detail.

Gabite · 07/01/2021 14:56

Exactly the same, like when the police let them through and took selfish with them. Just like they did with the proud boys last year.
