F*cking Trump - protestors breaching Capitol steps

You call it a building (which it is) but it is also a symbol - it has been around for near enough 200 years
And it is akin to being attacked - not just physically but also symbolically - everything it stands for is under attack :-(

I've been watching the news with interest, but disbelief was not something I felt at any point.

Rolling news will talk all night (GMT) about this.

There will be much smoke, but little fire.

The upshot will be a couple hundreds disgruntleds will be shown to have been allowed to stroll into the Capitol.

They came, they strolled around a bit, they left.

Still awaiting the update about the bomb and the tear gas.

Meanwhile, the media are treating this like some third world coup.

Apart from the few injured, this deserves a 🙄, not a national soul searching.

But this really, really isn't the beginning of the destruction of Amurican Democracy, as we know it.

Peaceful transfer of power is essential to democracy.

None of the senior republicans honestly believe the voter fraud claims - if they did they would have found lawyers who can spell and correctly name states. However they exploited stupidity for political gain.

If one of the major parties in a country no longer believes in democracy, how can democracy work?

COVID has pretty much stopped us doing anything interesting, it's decent of Trump to cause a bit of a stir to take everyone's mind off that for a bit. Plus, we all love to make fun of America and how perfect they seem to think they are.

I'm off to bed now. Interested to know what the protestors ignoring the curfew think they will achieve by just standing there in the cold overnight. Nice to see so many of them considering the people near them by wearing masks. Anyone would think they had had a change of a heart from a few weeks back, and that it was nothing to do with trying to hide their identity.

Anyway, I have to go to bed, now.

I suggest some of you also go rest your fevered brows.

Trump is unfit to be President. He incited those people deliberately with the aim of disrupting the democratic process. They are idiots, some of them are dangerous. He's a liability.

You are misunderstanding what is happening.

Nobody expects these people to seize power by storming a government building. For one thing they don’t have support of the army or the police.

The problem is that they have the support of the current president.
