Do you think you look better with or without makeup?

I think I look terrible without make up - ugly and old (which I am now but even so) and terribly self conscious.

I will never leave the house without any make up on unless I absolutely have to, and I would be really embarrassed if anyone dropped by unexpectedly (remember those days?!).

I wish I had the confidence to go without - but I don't.

I am very ugly without make up, I can't go out without it on and I hate seeing people without wearing make up! I really am ugly!

RaininSummer · 28/12/2020 18:50

Definitely with though I don't wear much. No eyebrows unless I help them out and high colour cheeks without foundation. Always look and feel sleepy without mascara.

QueenPawPaws · 28/12/2020 18:51

Way better with, but I love makeup
Going to selfridges and swatching stuff and testing things is relaxing for me, it's more of a hobby like other people enjoy painting or looking at patterns for sewing etc
I like watching YouTube for new techniques and ideas and seeing what people create

Neither. I don't look better with or without makeup, I just look different. Without makeup I think I look fresher and younger. With makeup I think I look glitzy/glam, even if I do say so myself 😂

DappledThings · 28/12/2020 18:54

I have plenty of friends who I've lived with or stayed with overnight over the years so I've seen them fresh out of bed or the shower with no make up and with minimal make up and with full night out make up.

In every single case they have looked different with or without but never better or worse.

@YouJustDoYou

With. Strangers (all men) have told me/laughed at me over the past decades at my ugliness precisely the few times I wasn't wearing my make up mask. Not I just don't give a shit - they still laugh at me, I've still been woofed at (because apparently I'm "such a dog"), but now I just don't care. Yes, I'm ugly without make up. But I 'm not going to wear it just to please men's eyes.
What a bunch of horrible shits you've had the misfortune of meeting Sad I sincerely doubt that you are 'ugly.' I don't even really believe that any decent person is ugly, I subscribe to the Roald Dahl 'The Twits' school of thought in that respect.

I wear makeup very rarely. I am 39, I've never learned to be fussed on it. I do look better with it on but don't want people getting used to my made up face!

LemonSquirtInTheEyeOfLife · 28/12/2020 18:55

I probably look "better" i.e. younger / fresher / whatever marketing twattery with makeup on, but I don't wear any. My 40 year old face is fine as it is. Anyone who's got a problem with that, bollocks to them.

twolip · 28/12/2020 19:01

With. It always surprises me on these threads how little make up women seem to wear, I have to use primer, foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blusher, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, eyebrow pencil, lipstick to look decent.
I wish I could look good with a smudge of concealer and mascara but nope the full kit is needed daily Grin

DollyMixtureLulus · 28/12/2020 19:05

I only know how to finger paint so wear very little but do look much better with it!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/12/2020 19:08

I love makeup. I look fine without it, but my face looks more defined with it, and I feel like “me”. I enjoy the ritual of putting it on, and also really miss wandering round department stores pottering through testers.

MrsEfr0n · 28/12/2020 19:16

With. I wear a full face everyday but wish I didn’t need to. I look awful without it.

Franticbutterfly · 28/12/2020 19:17

I 100% look better with make up, and my face can take a lot of it without looking too made up, I especially look better with bold lipstick, and turn heads when I wear it. Without, my god I am plain as anything. Very light blue eyes, light skin, you can barely see my features.

Tellmelies65 · 28/12/2020 19:18

I suffer from dark under eye circles no matter how much slee I get so definitely look better with.

Heartlantern2 · 28/12/2020 19:22

I look better with it, don’t always wear makeup though and I would happily leave the house without it.

baggies · 28/12/2020 19:23

I don't have a very good skin. Also broken capillaries. Always wore make up every day. Cue the pandemic and I stopped wearing it bar some eye pencilling. Have worn make up about 3 times since then. I suppose I wasn't going anywhere, the weather was hot, and I just thought I can't be bothered. It had been liberating. I still think I look better with makeup, but it's not important to me any longer.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 28/12/2020 19:24

I am a goth, to all intents and purposes. My face is sometimes very pale with lots of black eye make-up. However, I can't be bothered a lot of the time so I don't. I prefer the un-made-up face tbh. I look younger. I like skin to look like skin. Hate to see the whole contoured crap and scary eyebrows.

Changi · 28/12/2020 19:25

I think I look OK without it, so I don't wear it.

supportneeded1 · 28/12/2020 19:26

I look awful with it and hate the feel plus it breaks my skin out
Doing my eyebrows and mascara is ok if i really have to but anymore and I just do t look right plus I have horrible skin

Cocolapew · 28/12/2020 19:27

Definitely better, I look like I've been dug up without it. Saying that in my 20's I wouldn't be seen dead without it but now I'm in my 50's I do go out without it, I wouldn't go to work without it though. My workmates would probably phone for an ambulance.

GintyMcGinty · 28/12/2020 19:29

Tbh very few women I know DO wear makeup. It's just not commonly worn in my sector, social circle, etc.

I sometimes see women in the shops etc wearing far too much and I notice that. I don't notice women who don't wear makeup.

Reading this thread it seems quite a few people are not confident without it and I think that's a shame. I'd hate to feel I had to wear it. I don't like it.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 28/12/2020 19:31

I've never worn much bit I gave it up appart from some tinted moisturiser and eye liner at the biting of the first lock down. Stopped straightening my hair as well. I do have microblading though which I think makes a difference to how I look !

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 28/12/2020 19:32

Well that made very little sense!

formerbabe · 28/12/2020 19:35

Much better with make up. Even my dh agrees. In fact the transformation of me from no make up to a full face is extraordinary.

I dislike men who say they prefer the no make up look...I find it weirdly controlling and a bit of a red flag.

When we first got together, I'd sleep in my make up, wake up before him, go to the bathroom and reapply. I can't be arsed with that anymore.

Wineinthegarden · 28/12/2020 20:04

Always have to have mascara and cover up on or I get ‘you look exhausted/ are you ill’ comments. Great for the old self esteem.
