Do you think you look better with or without makeup?

I think I look terrible without make up - ugly and old (which I am now but even so) and terribly self conscious.

I will never leave the house without any make up on unless I absolutely have to, and I would be really embarrassed if anyone dropped by unexpectedly (remember those days?!).

I wish I had the confidence to go without - but I don't.

I just look different. I don’t wear make up often though, especially through the pandemic.

WorraLiberty · 28/12/2020 17:56

Anyone who wears makeup will think they look better with it surely, or why would they wear it?

I wear a bit of light makeup and I think it makes me look 'fresher'.

I don't bother if I'm not going to work or for a night out or something and have no problem not wearing it.

Longdistance · 28/12/2020 17:56

With make up. When I was in my twenties I could go without make up and it didn’t make difference. Now I have dc and am 44, it’s a different story. I wear make up to work and to special occasions. If I’m off to the supermarket, I don’t wear any as I don’t care enough.

I don't wear makeup. But I don't care what people think.

Uptoongirl · 28/12/2020 17:59

I have v pale skin and v dak under eyes (genetic) so I look much better with light to medium makeup. There is a line however, too much and I look very odd.

MoodyMarshall · 28/12/2020 17:59

I have invisible lashes/brows so I need to at least tint those before I frighten the kids at school Grin I don't think people with dark hair will ever understand what going without makeup really feels like for us redheads

W3dontdoduvets · 28/12/2020 18:00

I look like a better me! I have it down to a fine art and know what suits me. I might get my MN Make up bingo card out though.

HotSince63 · 28/12/2020 18:01

I look like a potato without make-up, I have to wear mascara as a minimum to go out or if I know people are coming over.

LubaLuca · 28/12/2020 18:02

I have rosacea with pustules and very raw-looking redness, so I'm definitely better with makeup. Everyone agrees with this Grin

yahyahs22 · 28/12/2020 18:02

Without. I hate my face with make up! In my earlier 20's I wouldn't leave the house without it but now I don't wear a thing on my face

GintyMcGinty · 28/12/2020 18:03

I probably look better with it. But I really can't be bothered and I don't like how make up feels.

I have had make up on 3 times this year and that was for work reasons. Otherwise I never wear it.

sunshineandshowers21 · 28/12/2020 18:03

i think i look better with make up, but my boyfriend insists i look better without 😂 i do wear make up most days though, mainly because i just feel more put together with my face on. i went out without make up the other day though and i got asked for id in three different shops. that doesn’t happen when i wear make up!

That's a good point. Maybe the question I should have asked was "do you wear makeup?".

I don't wear much - eyeliner/mascara, and sometimes lipstick but, honestly, I look completely different without any. I think I
look like a man.

With but I Don’t have a face that carries make up well- I look like a child playing with paint if I dare try a bold lip or liquid eye liner.
However basic foundation, blusher and mascara I look slightly less dead.

Stepintochristmas2020 · 28/12/2020 18:07

I look way better with makeup.

I have to fill in the gaps in my eyebrows, put on a little bit of eye shadow, eye liner, mascara and a bb cream to cover the red spots around my face. I look a million times better.

I wear makeup much less this year as I'm wfh.

If I don't wear make-up, invariably people ask if I'm ill Hmm I only wear a full face of make-up if I'm going out-out, though. My daily face is usually just concealer, foundation blended over nose and chin, eyebrows drawn in (peri menopause has disappeared then), a smudgy eyeliner and mascara. No point wear lipstick at the moment it blusher, thanks to masks.

I look 100% better and fresher once I have applied make-up. I honestly believe everyone does. If they don't, it's because it's not the right make-up and it's not being properly applied.

EileenGC · 28/12/2020 18:08

I don't wear any. Last time I did was two years ago, for a photo shoot I needed for professional purposes.

I'd probably look a bit better if I put some make up on, but I absolutely hate having anything on my face and I can't be bothered with the time/cost it takes.

My work requires me to be on TV a couple of times a week, plus multiple recordings. Not once have I gone on stage with make up, I look decent on camera and no one has said a word about it so far.

Pyewhacket · 28/12/2020 18:10

I’m covered in freckles so minimum make up.

AvoidingRealHumans · 28/12/2020 18:12

Definitely with and my 6 year old confirmed this last night by asking if I had make up on, when I said no he said he knew because I look weird without make up on.
Then he kept saying don't you? Don't you look weird? Don't you mum? Hmm forcing me to confirm that yes, I do look weird without make up.
Hes such a delight that child Grin

calamityjam · 28/12/2020 18:12

Probably look better with makeup but I'm pretty much shit at applying it. Even watching tutorials I end up looking like a drag queen if I do the highly made up look like the yoofs are doing. At 44 I usually stick to the basics.

nevernotstruggling · 28/12/2020 18:15

Depends. In the winter I look ill without under eye concealer and bronzer. In high summer when I'm tanned I don't need anything expect eyebrows and mascara.
When I have had microblading done (I have quite severe trich) in the future I will probably wear a lot less make up.

I think the attitude to make up/none/whatever is so much better than when I was a teen and older adults have constant grief about make up/too much make up blah blah.

lcdododo · 28/12/2020 18:17

Anyone who wears makeup will think they look better with it surely, or why would they wear it?

Because they enjoy putting it on, they like playing with new colours, they like exploring new styles. So many reasons

notangelinajolie · 28/12/2020 18:17

I don't know if I look better or not and I haven't asked anyone or been told this. But tbh I don't really care.
Whenever I've worn makeup I see some ridiculous pantomime clown staring back through the mirror. It certainly doesn't make me feel confident or nice - it just makes me look silly. I'm definitely more happier au naturel 😋
I have a DD who is a beauty therapist so it's not that I don't have anyone to show me how to apply it.

Sittinginmyoodie · 28/12/2020 18:17

I definitely look better with it on. I've got very dark under eye circles.

That being said, I am happy to go out and be seen without it on. I like to wear it, I think the whole routine of it is helpful while WFH. On the weekends, when I'm off work or generally CBA, I won't put any on. But I'm happy to nip out to the shop, go for a walk etc without any on.

I do think there can be a point where people put too much on, and would probably look much better without it. Especially teenagers who probably have great skin anyway. Back in my school days, one of my friends wore loads to try and cover her spots. But it just ended up caking on the spots and looked worse. I used to think she looked much better fresh faced when I saw her without any on.
