Do you think you look better with or without makeup?

I think I look terrible without make up - ugly and old (which I am now but even so) and terribly self conscious.

I will never leave the house without any make up on unless I absolutely have to, and I would be really embarrassed if anyone dropped by unexpectedly (remember those days?!).

I wish I had the confidence to go without - but I don't.

I'm happy with the way I look without it, but look better with, obviously, although I only wear it very lightly. Some CC cream, a bit of blush, under eye concealer and a coat of mascara. I do think I look absurd with heavy makeup. My daughter and I will play around with it sometimes, and she will put loads of eyeshadow on me. Looks utterly ridiculous.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 28/12/2020 18:22

I am very fair and too much make up is very harsh on me.

I am a fan of Trinny and wear light tinted moisturiser and a bit of cover up but haven't worn mascara in about 9 months. I did get some in my Christmas stocking in case I ever go out again!!!

I am def more no make up than make up

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 28/12/2020 18:23

Neither Grin my skin is terrible and dark circles as I’ve aged are bad! But I’m shite at make up so covering spot scars and my horrible red nose it looks awful! I’m yet to find a concealer /foundation / bb cream combo that looks good on my skin.

I only wear make up when I go out in the evening. So I guess I do think it looks nice, but not enough difference to bother with if I'm just going to work / school run / shops / whatever.

Gufo · 28/12/2020 18:27

I look loads better with it, but still CBA to wear it very often.

YouJustDoYou · 28/12/2020 18:27

With. Strangers (all men) have told me/laughed at me over the past decades at my ugliness precisely the few times I wasn't wearing my make up mask. Not I just don't give a shit - they still laugh at me, I've still been woofed at (because apparently I'm "such a dog"), but now I just don't care. Yes, I'm ugly without make up. But I 'm not going to wear it just to please men's eyes.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 28/12/2020 18:29

I'm 40 and haven't worn makeup for years. I never actually properly learned how to apply it as a teen because I wasn't interested so I probably look like a clown when I do put it on. A few year ago I had a makeover thing and although I looked alright my skin felt awful. The makeup was heavy and felt slimy on my face and I couldn't wait to take it off!

MsChatterbox · 28/12/2020 18:30

I feel great without makeup until I'm getting my picture taken with flash then I feel like I want a full face on because pictures are awful 😁😁

TheThingWithFeathers · 28/12/2020 18:30

Definitely with (I have a very red face!) but even knowing that I still can't be arsed to put on make up most of the time. I've only worn make up 3 or 4 times since March.

slavetothenhs · 28/12/2020 18:32

WITH!

SuePreem · 28/12/2020 18:34

Better! Although I don't wear much - the tinted moisturiser does make a lot of difference though.

MissSmiley · 28/12/2020 18:36

I'm 48 and my DD15 tells me I look younger without makeup, I don't wear much anyway, just the bare minimum not to look ill

NataliaOsipova · 28/12/2020 18:37

I look a hell of a lot better with makeup - I’m pale skinned with very pale lashes. At a minimum, eyeliner and mascara.

Wannabangbang · 28/12/2020 18:38

I look better with make up, late 30s now don't feel comfortable without it, only light mind due. Bit of mascara, light eyeshadow, nude lippy and some foundation

FuckOffDailyFailure · 28/12/2020 18:39

With! But I never wear it, as I'm lazy. I used to wear it daily, without fail. Now I'm used to my naked face, as is everyone else. So it isn't such a nasty shock as it used to be when people saw me without make up for the first time Xmas Blush.

Namechangeme87 · 28/12/2020 18:42

I think I look better with the bare minimum IE bit of mascara , brow powder and lip balm on is prob when I look best. I’d love to be good at make up but I’m not ergo I feel I look worse with it on . Haven’t worn foundation in about a year

Furrbly · 28/12/2020 18:42

Oh you this made me feel a bit emotional. I was going to say something like "I bet you're not at all ugly" but I don't want to be patronising. Plus, that's almost my experience too - any time I'm caught without make up I get the "are you ok/you look tired/" etc.

I look like I've just been dug up if I don't wear it

Mommabear20 · 28/12/2020 18:45

I don't wear make up at all, but have done for weddings and I do much prefer myself with makeup, I'm just not willing to sacrifice time with my DH and DD to sit and do it every morning, plus I'm not very good at it so always get it done professionally for big events

partyatthepalace · 28/12/2020 18:46

I think I look better with light natural make up , and I think anyone older does.

Full face of make up is a matter of taste, but I only like it for evening anyway.

DappledThings · 28/12/2020 18:47

@Redshoeblueshoe

I don't wear makeup. But I don't care what people think.
Ditto
lachy · 28/12/2020 18:47

Of course I look better with make up on Confused But I also look better when I've been paying proper attention to my diet, skincare, getting decent sleep and drinking lots of water.

My make up bag is minimal, I don't do that contouring stuff, but I do tint my lashes and brows.

unmarkedbythat · 28/12/2020 18:48

I look a million times better with and prefer my made up face to my naked one. I have really pale skin but also really sensitive skin prone to spots, broken veins, open pores etc. I basically look like red and white patches with a naked face. I like using makeup. Sometimes I get a tan or apply a tan and then I generally only feel the need to use eyeliner and a bit of blusher, but otherwise, makeup every time. I find being told I don't need it patronising- thank you, until your intervention I wasnt aware that a layer of foundation wasn't necessary for my survival Hmm- and being told I shouldn't wear it insulting. Your face is yours. If you want to make it up I hope that begins you happiness. If you want to leave it as is, I hope that brings you happiness. Do what works for you.

GaraMedouar · 28/12/2020 18:49

Haha - definitely better with make up - but normally I wear no make up, and wear comfy leggings/jeans and baggy top (plus a hat currently so I can do nothing to my hair).
When I (once in a blue moon) wear a dress and make up (and contact lenses) my DD says how beautiful I am (she knows how to wrap Mummy around her little finger) and people say I look nice. But - normally I can’t be arsed. And I haven’t been ‘out out’ since lockdown really . Also single . I might wear some make up if I ever manage to get out on an OLD date.

OhMsBeliever · 28/12/2020 18:49

I don't wear make up because of sensory issues. So if I even attempted to put some on I'd definitely look worse, probably end up looking like a clown as I have no idea how to apply it. Grin
