We order a Serrano ham every year, every year DS from the age of twelve now nineteen manfully takes on the task of decimating it, last week for probably the first time in a long while his anxiety over Covid and everything started to bubble up, he was really twitchy as to whether Tesco would deliver the Serrano ham, ( it really wasn't about the ham, I can see that now)

We agreed that we would try and order a second one and if the first one arrived we would cancel the second one, the first one arrived yesterday, straight on to the Tesco website to cancel the second one. Computer says no......

We are in tier two but living as though we were in tier four as I am CEV, we have been nowhere, done nothing and whilst the extra spend is annoying in the extreme, it is not the end of the world.

Looks like Serrano ham for Easter as well. Grin

Too much food in the fridge which makes getting something out a nightmare.

Bonkerz · 23/12/2020 19:15

Just found a suitcase full of stocking fillers and I forgot to buy stockings lmao

PatchworkElmer · 23/12/2020 19:23

Forgot the orange juice for Christmas breakfast

Oldraver · 23/12/2020 19:24

We have been having stuffed boned duck for years. I used to order it but haven't for the last few years as dont need too.

Saw one of those 'testing the best stuff for Christmas' programmes and they recommended stuffed duck...should of known it would cause a mass rush

So I cant get one for love nor money and now have to debone a duck. I can do it but had lots to drink last time

Pillow cases are your friend
daisychain01 · 23/12/2020 19:46

@HerbErtlinger I just read @Bonkerz post about no stockings and you beat me to it with the suggestion of pillow cases. Which then reminded me of my first world problem that I felt really hard done-by and deprived as a child that we were given pillow cases rather than stockings because that wasn't what it was like in the story books wahhhhh Xmas Grin

Just remembered that I bought beautiful personalised cross-stitched stockings from Lands End ...but no socking hangers, so we have no way to hang them up Xmas Hmm

And I bought too many and too large stocking fillers because I was expecting to use the sacks not the stockings.

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Our DDs are really enjoying the Christmas cheese board. Which is fantastic, especially since they are showing willing to try things.

But... They are eating all our cheese! DH is having to top up the biscuit selection.

I have a similar (but worse?) situation. My DC now like drinking wine (17 & 19). It’s actually really nice - they come and sit with us around the table and chat pleasantly while the wine is flowing. It’s sort of exactly what you wanted when they were 3 & 5 and used to upend their plates and then cry, and then you had to move on to bath time.

But ... its my wine. Let’s hope Majestic is an essential retailer.

I’ve run out of vegetarian bacon and it’s not Christmas Eve yet 🎻

Cherrysoup · 23/12/2020 21:54

When my DH went to get a little turkey on Monday, there were none left so he bought beef instead, which I love, but I really wanted endless turkey sandwiches with stuffing.😭

Stickybbqwings · 23/12/2020 22:04

We have a fridge absolutely full of food but I’ve been looking forward to M&S party food on Christmas Eve for weeks.
Left it until late to go this evening in the hope of no queues and the whole party food section was completely bare Sad

SmallChrismas · 23/12/2020 22:08

I have the worlds biggest gammon for Boxing Day but now no guests.

ThePonderer · 23/12/2020 22:08

We usually have blinis on Boxing Day with quails' eggs. Can't find any - we'll have to make do with ordinary eggs. If this is the worst thing that happens this Christmas I'll be a happy woman.

inappropriateraspberry · 24/12/2020 01:20

@TwnklTwnklLittleStarfighter just hang the stockings on your bedroom door handles. We always have ours in our bedrooms to open first thing!

DaughterOfEvilReindeer · 24/12/2020 01:52

I picked DP up this evening (support bubble) and in the car home he confessed that he'd thrown my Christmas present out accidentally when he threw out the packaging Sad

What a brilliant excuse if ever I heard one (did the bin men take away the evidence)?

That's better than telling teacher "the dog ate my homework"

ItisRainingAgain · 24/12/2020 05:35

We had to get tiger prawns from the fishing co-op this morning as they’d run out of schoolies. We always have schoolies so hopefully my mum and sister who are coming over won’t mind the break in tradition.

Malin52 · 24/12/2020 05:39

There are too many people for Xmas lunch tomorrow (15) and it's going to be bloody hot outside and the person whose house we are going to is up the hill from the beach and my favourite bikini has a broken strap.

Sad
jessstan1 · 24/12/2020 05:51

The central heating has packed up. I have to rely on subsidiary heating for now.

AlternativePerspective · 24/12/2020 05:52

DS has requested whisky parfaits for desert at the last minute. That’s not a problem, I have the ingredients for that, but I don’t have ingredients to make mincemeat sauce. I can just heat up a jar of sainsburys taste the difference mincemeat, right?

Have woken up with a sore throat. Am desperately hoping I’ve just been asleep with my mouth open or something. I’ve been looking forward to doing Christmas Eve buffet for months now, even though it’s only me ds and DP (support bubble and having to go back to work indefinitely from the 29th) I seemingly have enough party food and cheese to feed numerous others.... and if I’m unwell it will be a travesty.

QuantumJump · 24/12/2020 06:08

"my favourite bikini has a broken strap" - Malin52 wins the thread!

Coppercreek · 24/12/2020 06:28

I spent lots of time and effort buying and filling 3 beautiful Christmas eve boxes for the DC and forgot to put them in the fucking car! We are 2 hours away so can't go home and get them.

Now DP and I have Christmas pyjamas but no matching pyjamas for the children woe is me

Also the hot tub in our lodge is too hot and cannot sit in it for more than 5 mins...

Is that first world enough 🤣

Indoctro · 24/12/2020 06:30

Was meant to be going for a Xmas eve 7am hill run , just looked out the window to 2" of snow so that's put the brakes on that

So I'm sat here disappointed ☹️

My car is rubbish at driving in the snow

Xmasfairy86 · 24/12/2020 06:31

Lidl had no AA batteries

rainbowstardrops · 24/12/2020 06:36

Wow! Where are you @Indoctro? I'd love some snow for Christmas! Especially as we're not allowed to go anywhere 😂
