We order a Serrano ham every year, every year DS from the age of twelve now nineteen manfully takes on the task of decimating it, last week for probably the first time in a long while his anxiety over Covid and everything started to bubble up, he was really twitchy as to whether Tesco would deliver the Serrano ham, ( it really wasn't about the ham, I can see that now)

We agreed that we would try and order a second one and if the first one arrived we would cancel the second one, the first one arrived yesterday, straight on to the Tesco website to cancel the second one. Computer says no......

We are in tier two but living as though we were in tier four as I am CEV, we have been nowhere, done nothing and whilst the extra spend is annoying in the extreme, it is not the end of the world.

Looks like Serrano ham for Easter as well. Grin

Yesterday I had to change our real Christmas tree as the first one was dropping all over. Like redic. It was bald it the bottom.

So I had to go yo hoembasr and buy a new one. Luckily they were massively reduced. Take down the old one. It got needles all over. So then I spent hours on my hands and knees picking up the dropped needles. As there were soany the hoover couldn't really manage.
Then had to put up the new one. Which is never easy they always need balancing! Then decorate it!

So not a big deal really but a massive fuck on!

Have sent DH a list of last bits...as neighbouring county just announced going into tier 4 Boxing Day let’s see what he comes home with....( he’s picking up on way home so I don’t need to drag youngest out with me)

HelloCanYouHearMe · 23/12/2020 16:18

I pre-ordered a small turkey crown for me and DC and im being sent a frozen 7kg turkey instead

christmasathomeagain · 23/12/2020 16:25

I didn't buy candy canes then DH started craving them, can't find them anywhere now. Oh well, he will have to do without now.

daisychain01 · 23/12/2020 16:27

I'm really stressed and will be on a knife-edge all through Christmas worrying that my favourite Bonne Maman madelena cakes won't be available in the supermarket anymore because of Brexit.

I've got 6 packets of different flavours but when they're gone, they could be gone Sad

Kilpitlees · 23/12/2020 16:32

Asked my husband to buy baby parsnips from M&S. He came back with pre-chopped parsnips. I guess they are small! I hate pre-prepared veg as I do not think it tastes as nice Xmas Sad

ThreeImaginaryBoys · 23/12/2020 17:32

My lovely MIL gave us all her Boxing Day food as we can no longer get together. There's no room in my freezer.

So we will be dining on mini pizzas, chicken satay, sausage rolls and halloumi sticks until Xmas day.

Just been told that FC is not real...

Makes me wonder where those presents have come from over the last 47 years...

May explain why relatives have always been a bit offish with me...

MrsMarrio · 23/12/2020 17:35

Don't have Christmas crackers for the table, that all go in the bin anyway

TwnklTwnklLittleStarfighter · 23/12/2020 17:41

Thanks to this thread I now:

  • wonder where on earth I put the candy canes that I definitely remember buying in November
  • have a craving for pickled onions, and fresh figs, for the cheese board (maybe not at the same time)
  • would love a Baileys, but can’t be bothered to check the supermarket for any

On the plus side, I managed to offload the additional Turkey and the cheeses to family and friends Xmas Smile

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/12/2020 17:58

This thread has given me a good laugh.

Couldn’t get my Christmas tree from usual place this year so grabbed one of a handful of trees on sale outside my favourite local second hand shop. I managed to disguise the fact that it’s completely devoid of branches on one side... but its reflection in the French windows tells a different story.

@Quirrelsotherface

Ocado have kindly substituted my 2 packets of jelly with 2 POTS of ready made jelly. Now that's not going to be any use to my trifle is it?!
Can you melt them? I seem to remember having ready-made jellies in my packed lunch for school, that would liquefy in warm weather.
LongPauseNoAnswer · 23/12/2020 18:02

I can’t find Kerrygold butter anywhere (I’m in France) because it comes here via UK and its all sitting on a truck in Folkestone I suspect. How am I going to do brown butter carrots in stupid hardly salty French “butter”

TheOrchidKiller · 23/12/2020 18:21

@Bluffinwithmymuffin
Grin love that tree!

WeeDangerousSpike · 23/12/2020 18:26

DPs present of a cold brew coffee maker has turned up today, with no bloody instructions.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 23/12/2020 18:30

TheOrchidKiller

Thank you Xmas Grin

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 23/12/2020 18:32

Our Christmas tree lights have just broken and none of us have the energy to remove and replace them with working ones. Also DP only bought 6 Malteasers reindeers at the supermarket, which I really don't think is enough to last me though the festive period!

noscoobydoodle · 23/12/2020 18:32

My husband went out to do the Xmas big shop. He has come back with a huge £50 piece of beef, a whole salmon, some crackers for cheese (but no cheese) and 3 carrots- for the reindeer. That's it. Not sure I'll send him again next year....

QuantumJump · 23/12/2020 18:56

We have too much cheese.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 23/12/2020 19:02

The ganache I made for truffles is not quite as firm as I wanted so my truffles are not as neat as I'd like.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 23/12/2020 19:03

We have too much cheese
Not possible!

Whatsetshortfor · 23/12/2020 19:04

Thanks @sueelleker. Unfortunately I don’t live anywhere near a Hotel Chocolat Confused I’ll try @AlternativePerspective suggestion

Since then we’ve had our Christmas meat box delivered and the bloody gammon joint has no fat on it to do the sugary mustardy marinade and stick cloves in. So we’re going to need to buy another one

Ftumch · 23/12/2020 19:07

I've got a 5.5kg rib of beef for three people. We'll still be eating it at Easter!

katiegoestoaldi · 23/12/2020 19:09

We've got no bagels for our traditional breakfast of smoked salmon bagels and no stollen either 🙁
